Sensei Chase is awesome! He works well with the kids and keeps them engaged and involved. He's great at redirecting when the kids stop paying attention and getting them to refocus. We've noticed a significant improvement in our son's discipline since we enrolled him in classes this fall.

Absolutely LOVE this place! My daughter and niece started about 2 weeks ago and they like going. The young lady at the front desk is always so friendly and helpful when ever we have questions or need anything. Chase is their instructor, which I have to say he is so patient with the kids. My niece and daughter are only 4 so of course they wanna run around and act goofy, even in the middle of instructiona, but he never gets upset just redirects them and continues. The prices are very reasonable for all classes and products. 100% recommend this place.

Great and caring place for kids. They learn so much more than just self defense. They learn life skills like discipline, persistence, and the art of achieving. Great and caring instructors.

My daughter's been a member for years and loves it. The owner Will is a great guy. All of the sensei's are patient and great teachers. We feel confident and proud that our daughter has the ability to defend herself if need be and has the self confidence/esteem to back it all up. Great learning environment and clean to boot. Would recommend Baltimore School of Self Defense to anyone of any age interested in learning martial arts or self defense.

Excellent family oriented environment! My children have been enrolled in their starter program, and though my daughter wanted nothing to do with it, she finished the 6 week introduction class and appeared to enjoy it. The instructor works well with the kids, and I thought we were able to sway my daughter's opinion, but my son is super excited to continue with his training!

My 13 year-old son is enrolled in the youth jujitsu class. He has been taking classes for approximately 18 months at BSSD. The instructors are patient, highly trained, wonderful teachers, and most importantly, incredible role models for my son. I'm confident that under the guidance of the BSSD instructors, my son will develop into a kind, polite, strong young man whose moral compass will always be pointed in the right direction.
I also had the pleasure of taking the Women's Self Defense Seminar at BSSD. I highly recommend this class for all women! Easy, useful tips for many common situations we as women face during our life. The class also serves as a good 1st step toward getting a little taste of taking classes on a regular basis.

As an adult taking Jiu Jitsu for the first time in my life, I am greatly enjoying my classes at the dojo. I am building my confidence and fitness as I progress through each lesson. Class sizes are small, which allows the instructors to provide personal attention/instruction as needed, observing each student's level of skill. The instructors are knowledgeable, long-time veterans of the martial arts, and also personable.
Many classes are offered throughout the week, allowing for a flexible schedule. I look forward to class each week.

My son attended Jujitsu classes under Sensei Will for almost two years. He learned a lot in these two years and enjoyed the class very much. Will was very patient with the children in the class and was respectful to their needs. I would highly recommend this dojo for anyone interested in getting their child involved with jujitsu.

My son loves this place, and the instructor is great with kids. Very clean and welcoming. Only reason i give it 4 stars is that the skills they teach are different than a traditional karate class, which is what we came from. I was hoping he would be able to continue the lessons he already knew, but that is not the case. So just keep that in mind if your child has previous MA experience!

Bought the 60 day trial which includes a uniform and 2 classes per week for 60 days. It was the most expensive out of 4 local karate places that I called. I chose Baltimore School of defense because they accept 3 year olds, the location, and the approach to karate seemed appealing. My fault for not asking how long classes are but I found out they are only 30 minutes! All the other karate places I called had 45 minute and hour long classes. I brought my daughter to her first class on a Saturday morning... Right away I found out they don't even have a uniform for her because they are out. Class went okay aside from the fact that 30 minutes just isn't enough time. The kids are just getting started by the time 30mins. Is up. Nothing is accomplished in that short time. There were two great teachers and only 3 kids in class that day. I left feeling okay about it... My biggest issue being the time!
We just attended our second class, on a Thursday. Still no uniform!! This class had about 10 kids and only ONE TEACHER. I believe only 2 of all the kids had a uniform. What happened to that free uniform? I had a big issue with this class. I noticed how great my daughter was listening as well as a few others. And then I noticed how awful some others were behaving and how that took away from the entire class. In fact, one child who absolutely would not listen and just kept running around no matter what the teacher or his parents said...was actually rewarded for his poor behavior! I was in disbelief when the teacher chose the child doing everything wrong to be his helper instead of one of the children who were doing exactly the right thing. This is rewarding poor behavior and it is exactly why that child continues to do what he does which is totally interrupting the class. The class is so short that it is so completely unfair to the children who are there listening! One teacher gave most of his attention and focus to the child who was misbehaving. One teacher was not enough because it isn't fair to the other kids. Out of a 30-minute class time they probably only "played" for a total of 10 minutes. I felt like my daughter along with one other child I noticed should have gotten so much praise for doing the right thing (sitting and waiting)but instead all the attention and focus was on the children who were making the wrong choices. I was so upset when we left the class because it was such a waste of time... Again, nothing accomplished. It was impossible for one teacher to manage this class. I don't think 30 minutes will ever been enough time. For the high cost of this class, they should be an hour long. My daughter loves the class and has a great time but I feel completely "gipped."
Maybe I got completely unlucky and class isn't normally like that... Only time will tell.
My last complaint is the lack of communication. I don't know? Maybe it's just me but no one said anything to me while I was there. I didn't get a hi when I walked in the door... In fact no one was even at the front desk for the 2nd class. When my daughter was dismissed, several of the kids were still cleaning up so the teacher didn't come out and say bye to everyone. Speaking of that, my daughter asked why everyone else got to help clean up while she was dismissed. To my daughter she see's kids still in there "playing" and she wants to be a part of that. In her mind she is thinking "hey why do I have to leave and they get to stay and play?"
That brings another issue: I didn't like how the kids were not all dismissed together at the same time. Some kids were still in the room and some were leaving...and that has been the same for the beginning of class. I just feel it lacks organization.
I have never been part of the karate world so I truly have no idea what to expect. But when I think of karate I think of discipline and respect. And I feel like so far, Baltimore School of defense is totally lacking those two things..... And that's upsetting.
