I dropped in for a no-gi class when traveling from Texas. I was welcomed with open arms by everyone! Coach Frank was very attentive and incredibly helpful throughout class. My training partners were very respectful and overall was an amazing experience. Will definitely be back if I’m ever back in Baltimore.
I'm impressed by the kind and professional MMA instructors, the attentive staff, and the welcoming community at GC. The facility is beautiful, large, and upgraded, and my daughter absolutely loves it here.
Fighting covid quarantining, having a broken arm can really bring a person's spirits down. Especially for a 5-year-old. However she looks so forward going back to Brazilian is it too and she went to the party last night and took a picture with Santa Claus and loved it she had a great time she can't wait to come back. She enjoys the other children playing learning and we're enjoying watching her learn growing mentally physically and confidence self-perseverance, and watching her become all she can be and knowing how to handle situations as they arise throughout her life thank you to all the coaches
Super welcoming gym with a really good culture and some straight up killers on the mat. Visited back home from the west coast and had a great time training here.
I trained at Ground Control last night and it was a fantastic experience. The I stress great. Rolling was awesome. My drilling partner was great to work with. The techniques were explained well and are effective. I highly recommend Ground Control.
Great place and great instructors. I love that here you don't have to worry about egos, just learning to gain knowledge about martial arts. Super affordable as well.
Amazing group of people and top notch instruction. So far I can only attest to the BJJ training but they have active wrestling, striking and MMA programs as well as kids classes. Having trained briefly at gyms across the country (and 4-5 years of regular classes in the PNW), I feel really lucky to have found a place like this in the Baltimore area. Whatever your goals or interests are, they can definitely meet your needs. My only regret is waiting so long to join since moving to MD.
Went to morning no-gi classes with coaches Tim and John and it was by far the best instruction I've received out of the four bjj/mma gyms I've been at. Great instruction, great coaching, fast progression
Tried 7 day free trial only been 3 days feel like I’m at home staff and coaches are awesome all different type of characters didn’t witness no bullying nor prejudice good place for mma or anybody who suffers from ptsd needs help with coping skills
I trained at GC for about 2.5 years. I started off at Ground Control Columbia for about a year and then moved to Baltimore and attended this location. Both are fantastic with great instructors. The facilities and classes might be intimidating at first glance, but the people are friendly and amazing as long as you are eager to learn.
The instructors and professors are totally legit, and you will absolutely get one-on-one treatment here. The BJJ is technical with lots of rolling and new drills and moves every day. The mixed classes allow you a chance to learn from higher belts as well as provide opportunities to show new members the ropes. This helps create a real sense of communal learning, and you'd be surprised how much helping someone newer than you will help you with your own technique.
The boxing instructor here, Russ Shiflett, is incredibly technically sound. He's fantastic for beginners and advanced boxers alike. He has a thorough understanding of boxing techniques and will help you break down your movements like a science. My form improved drastically under Russ.
They just got in a new Muay Thai instructor who I haven't had a chance to learn too much from, but I feel that he is also a great source. He comes as an experienced fighter with many fights under his belt, and he definitely knows his stuff. I took a few classes with him before I quit the gym, and I'm sad that I didn't have a chance to glean more from him before I had to leave.
The only reason I left this gym is because I picked up a new job in New York. I'm going to miss this place dearly. If you have any interest in MMA or BJJ at all, I highly recommend this gym. If you're on the fence, try the week-long free trial -- there's no pressure, and they won't take your CC info or anything. You just need to sign a waiver and come with good attitude.

I was only able to make it to one mid day no-gi bjj class taught by John. The facility was huge (especially coming from a guy that trains in NYC), and a shower *was* available. The instruction was personal and detailed. I am still using the guard pass taught that day.
Very positive experience. I went here for my first time a few weeks ago and found the environment to be safe, fun and most importantly - geared towards learning. I just signed up for a yr membership and could not be happier. I definitely recommend this gym to anyone looking to break into MMA or BJJ.
Beginners in BJJ should not be grappling with each other. Otherwise bruised ribs on the second BJJ class during the free 7 day trial might result. Staff who witnessed the incident should not be making excuses and projecting onto the injured party as if the other guy didn't know and it was the injured party's responibility to let the aggressive knucklehead know to go easy "at 50%". Take responsibility for your school and your schools failure to properly include and initiate a beginner to safely train at your school. Beginners should not be grappling with each other. Do you already have so many students that you do not care about the safety of prospective students during the 7 day free trail period?
My friend and I came in for our first class and the instructor Vince didn’t even care to speak to us. No welcome no hello nothing. The entire class he never said one word to us or showed us how to do the drills. He never looked at us to even check if we were doing anything correctly or not. Never asked us if we were new or if we had questions. Extremely unfriendly. Do not recommend.
It's sad because my son truly enjoys going to ground control. I'll start with, This is the most expensive place around (within a 20 mile radius of our home) but it was the most convenient for our family when we bought a house in the area. So we settled with ground control. But after our month is over, we will be going back to kenoo. After getting off of work today, I had to go straight to drop my son off at ground control for his class. So I didn't have time to shower before hand. I normally sit inside and watch the screen they provide to watch your children in their class but there was no way with how dirty I was, was I going to sit inside today. So I sat out in the car for the hour. It was raining so 3 minuets before class let out, I came closer to the front door so my son could see me when he came out. Apparently I wasn't the only mom who had that idea in mind. Now we're not right infront of the building, we didn't want to block any cars. So we pulled to the side where the cones are so we weren't blocking any cars that wanted to leave or anything like that. Within seconds, an older woman came out yelling at us for being pulled up there and how they have cones there for a reason. Just overall very rude. Now us two moms were in the wrong even though we were not blocking anyone, not in anyone's way what so ever but this business is entitled to how ever they want their parking lot mapped out. So I just politely said "yes ma'am, I'm so sorry" and I started to slowly pull away. As I was pulling away, I heard the mom in the other car say to the lady from ground control, " yes we are in the wrong but you could of said that a little nicer to us". I agree 100 percent but whatever. But than the lady from ground control just flipped out. Screaming, I can say whatever the f*ck I want, how ever the f*CK I want to say it, this is my f*cking business, get the f*CK out my parking lot. Just dropping F bombs left and right like there wasn't kids all around! Just completely and utterly horrible. I understand we were in the wrong, but that's NOT how you handle business. That's NOT how you treat people that pay max to have their child go here. As a business owner myself, I try not to complain about anything because I know things can get frustrating but that was uncalled for. There were kids standing around that watched her act like that. Kids that might not hear language like that at home! I'm hoping that other mom pulls her kid from this company as well. The teachers are amazing here but I can't put money into someone's pocket that treats their customers like that. I just hate leaving his teachers!
