Bakersfield Brazilian Jiu Jitsu [BBJJ] is a training center that offers World class instruction to men, women, and children. BBJJ is responsible for the creation of the TRUJITSU gameplan, now being utilized by jiu jitsu practioners world wide.
If you're looking for instructors who are legitimate, honest, decorated, still actively competing and successful, as well as respectful, kind, patient, and talented, Matt Baker, his wife Jill, and their two amazing grown kids who all are instructors, are what I described. If you want an environment that is positive, respectful, fun, perfect for family (including excellent kids classes), well priced, and with two great training center locations, that's what this is like. I've been to dojos and martial arts schools since youth for Judo, Jiu-Jitsu, Muay Thai, Kickboxing, MMA, and the instructors/teachers/coaches/etc. and/or the environment (the students, the expectations of how to treat one another, the physical building) sometimes can significantly differ. I've been to good and bad over 30 years, and this has been the best place, instruction, and people I've encountered. A true family. Enrolled my kid and she is loving it because of the class and the instructors and how all the kids have been taught to treat each other. Amazing place, and its because of the Baker family under Matt's leadership.

Chaos followed, relationships crumbled, jobs felt meaningless, and my thoughts tangled like vines, suffocating any sense of direction. One evening, traveling through Bakersfield, Ca. I got fortunate enough to gather the address to this dojo! Ironically, I got ‘lost’ in the, Hide N Seek, parking lot. I hesitated before stepping in. The professor, known simply as Sensei Matt, gave me a piece to the puzzle I’ve been missing for years. Chaos is only a lack of understanding. The art isn’t about controlling others, it’s about controlling yourself. Jiu-Jitsu wasn’t just movement, it was meaning. And for the first time in my life, I wasn’t fighting the chaos. I was flowing with it. Sensei Matt, I can’t thank you enough for welcoming me into your gym and giving me the chance to train alongside such great people. I can only imagine the incredible energy and tribe you and your wife create together. I’m truly grateful for the opportunity. And a heartfelt thank you to Miguel (aka Mr. Miyagi) for the rolls, your guidance and support mean the world to me. I’m beyond thankful!
Posted 4 months agoMy Happy Place. Tru Savages with Hearts of Gold. The Bakers are a special family that runs the show. My little family is blessed to be a part of this Trujitsu Family. All 4 of us train and it helps us grow together as a family. Confidence and Humility are gained here for sure.
Posted 2 years agoMatt and Jill Baker are incredible people and coaches! I mainly trained with Jill Baker (black belt) at the Riveters class which is for women only. It was so important for me to learn from a woman and among women. I felt safe, accepted and empowered. I also trained at the all adults class and the men are incredibly respectful of women. Hands down, their caliber of training is the best you will receive. I recently moved out of Bakersfield and I miss this gym SO much!
Posted 7 years agoFamily...I've been training here for 2 years and this has become my home away from home. I'm extremely proud to be apart of this team and a part of something so special. I've met some of the best people here I've ever met in my life. No matter how bad my day is it becomes great when I step on these mats and get to be around my team mates. We look out for one another, we take care of each other. This is the best environment I've ever been in. I love our family.
