Our entire family (6 of whom attend classes, 4 children and 2 adults) can’t say enough wonderful things about Axsom Martial Arts. The dojo teaches an excellent example of traditional martial arts (Okinawan Shorin-ryu), along with character and perseverance at the highest level of quality. Not only are the instructors great, but the parents of the students and the students are like family. If you are looking for a safe and trustworthy place for yourself or your child to study martial arts, choose Axsom Martial Arts today.

Axsom’s has been the best opportunity for all three of my children. ALL of the Senseis treat the students like family and hold their students accountable. There is so much fun and love in this space that it feels like family. This is not a pay for your belt dojo, the students have to earn it. I am beyond impressed with Sensei Moose and how he guides his students, after being a part of 6 different dojos nationwide and 4 disciplines, I can say this dojo is the only one where my family has flourished. Thank you Sensei Moose. Thank you.

My son has been going to Axsom Martial Arts for 2 years now, and we absolutely love it! Just signed my youngest son up 2 weeks ago! The instructors are patient, kind, helpful and fun! Sensei Moose (John Axsom) is loved by all the kids at the dojo and parents! My kids have learned respect, courage, discipline, routine, consistency and defense! Thank you Sensei and instructors for all your hardwork and dedication to the kiddos!!!

Axsom Martial Arts is amazing! I’ve been going to the dojo for about 3 years at first to watch my best friends son and now I bring my son. It’s a great atmosphere and all the teachers are great with kids of every age. I put my son in to not only learn but to help his speech and it has improved greatly in the short time he was been going.

Absolutely top-notch karate! Instructors are equally patient teaching both kids and adults. Amazing atmosphere- Sensei Moose genuinely cares about people, which leads to the dojo being an incredibly supportive atmosphere. Great discipline for kids and a good workout for adults! Very tough, but very fun!

I highly recommend both Sensei Moose's Dojo and his program for every age of student. As a long-time student of the martial arts, and a mother of eight children, I am impressed every time I walk into his classes. I have six children of varied ages who attend classes at Axsom Martial Arts along with me, and we all LOVE it there. We have studied in places we did not always feel comfortable before, and this group of interesting and friendly individuals has been a breath of fresh air. The people (parents, students, and teachers) are welcoming, the teaching is individualized where it needs to be, and the atmosphere is both challenging AND accepting of differences between one student's ability and another (without sacrificing quality of performance). There are many upper belts to help with the instruction in each class so that new students do not get lost at the beginning. The dojo "family" gets together on a regular basis for fun and more formal activities, and Sensei Moose's Membership in the AAU affords opportunities for your child to compete. Sensei Moose is also good at sharing pertinent life lessons in each class. All of these things are done without pressure to do more than you are comfortable with physically/mentally or more than you can afford...though you might be asked to stretch your wings when they see you are ready. The prices are reasonable, and varied depending on different factors. Just message them using their FB page to ask any questions you may have. They are very responsive. Their location is a comfortable drive from Williamsburg (it's like driving to CNU), and while I wish it was closer to where I live (in Williamsburg), it is worth the drive to us to attend such an excellent and friendly training facility. I know of one student who commutes from Richmond, if that says anything about respect for the instructor and his methods. Give it a try. There is an introductory package, and they offer a free trial class to anyone (gym clothes are fine). If you follow their FB page, they post class times and what is happening during the classes on a daily basis. Thumbs up from all of us and thanks to all who help at the dojo every day.

John “Moose” Axsom is amazing at bringing the best out of his students and pushing them to levels they didn’t know they could achieve. Him and his instructors always have a great upbeat attitude that makes you want to work and train harder. Moose is also very knowledgeable and great at explaining the moves to the students

My son has been apart of the Dojo Family for a little over a year. I love the change I’ve seen in his confidence. All of the Sensei’s are patient with all of the students. They learn and practice things that will help them in every aspect of their lives. Responsibility, patience, and a hard work ethic.

A Traditional Karate Dojo. Loved to visit there. A Dojo that teaches you more than Karate and makes you feel part of the family. Sensei Moose and his student are absolutely amazing. A place that I recommend 100%

We have been involved with Axsom Martial Arts for over three years. We've found it to be a great place of learning karate, exercising, playing games, and many more qualities of life. The entire Dojo family of parents and students are a great support system. We're very happy to be a part of Axsom's team. Frances Gardner

This place has definitely impacted my kids in a very positive way. Moose is a fantastic sensi. Do yourself a favor and give this place a chance before believing the negative reviews. You won't regret it.

This is the best dojo!! Our son has been there 2 years and absolutely loves it. He started at 7/8 and is challenged to be the best he can be in a supportive and structured manner. Sensei Moose is phenominal...along with his other senseis! Let me say...martial arts is not for those looking for participation trophies or soft punches - its a fight, self defense sport that equips children with the ability to learn respect, accountability and confidence. Anyone complaining about contact in a contact sport has no business being in martial arts.

Axsom Martial arts has been a blessing for my ADHD son, the professionals managing and teaching the arts are very trustworthy, we are very blessed and priviledge to be part of this awesome Karate family. Sensei Moose and his crew take the arts and lifestyle to everything they do and foster family values into the students.

Both of my kids have had a kind and wonderful experience at this place. There are parents everywhere looking out for all the kids and the people that teach are more than qualified to do so. They are super protective of everyone in this safe space. My kids have learned discipline not only at the dojo but in life skills as well(they clean thier rooms and make thier beds and I don't have to ask or beg) . I will say... This is a contact sport. This can be hard for some parents. This is karate not ballet. They are being supervised by the best of the best. I like my kids to be prepared for battles I can't fight for them... Bullies I can't protect them from, and to learn a discipline that I can't give as their mom. The sensei here is amazing as well as the community supporting this dojo. Kids need routine and discipline. Well worth it. Proud to be able to take my kids here. Proud Axsom mom😊
