The gym smells good and is clean. Clean bathrooms and lockers. No fear of getting an infection here. Training is great. Strong and competent guys with a club feel. It's easy to make friends and training is intense but not "wake up looking for an ice pack" intense. Aaron + Kim + Mark are super nice and down-to-earth people. It's a very nice place to spend your time.

I had the pleasure of partaking in both the striking and jiu jitsu classes this morning. Aaron, the other instructors, and regular students were very welcoming and excited to show their passion for each respective art. The studio and those there made the sessions feel like it was a private session and all involved were willing to go through each technique with me at my speed. Highly recommend AoMJJ! The only reason they only got 5 stars is that’s as high as google allows.

I'm so glad I found AOM - the coaching is excellent, the environment is welcoming, and going to class is one of the great pleasures of my day. The atmosphere is comfortable and relatively informal with an emphasis on students understanding the principles behind the techniques being taught (as opposed to strict repetition-based teaching). The curriculum is based on a monthly progression cycle starting with a foundational concept or technique, and building on that each week to reinforce and refine it. Facilities are clean and well maintained and there is truly a student-first approach to every interaction that I have seen.

I have loved every second of my time at AOM!!! There is such a family atmosphere, where laughter can be had while also being serious about technique and mastery of skills. Both Aaron and Kim are passionate about the art and take their time to be detailed in their teaching. Not only are they instructive but so are the upper belts, they are so patient and knowledgeable, always willing to take an opportunity to help you correct or improve upon a movement. I love that what I am learning is something that I can take with me into the real world if necessary. It’s also a plus that this is an intense workout as well!

Although Art of Motion is not my normal gym, I train there as a drop in when I come to town on business. I have a little different perspective as I go to many other gyms in other towns. Aaron, the Professor is very warm and nurturing. Kim, his wife also instructs and like Aaron, is also great. They set a very relaxed tone. If you are apprehensive about trying BJJ, this is a great gym for you. Concepts are well laid out and drilled. There is ZERO intimidation. The whole vibe is great. The members are very welcoming and there is an awesome sense of community. This is a gym that really cares about their members.

🥋 "There is no mercy in this dojo!👊" – just kidding! 😄 In reality, this place is like a second home with a family-like vibe that welcomes everyone. Walking into Art of Motion Jiu-Jitsu, you might expect the typical, intense dojo atmosphere, but what you'll find is something much more special. 🤼‍♂️🤼‍♀️ The community here is incredible. Both guys and gals train together in a respectful, supportive environment. No matter your skill level, you're treated with kindness and respect. If you're a beginner, don't worry – the higher belts are there to guide you, ensuring you're learning and growing at your own pace. 👩‍🏫👨‍🏫 Coaches Aaron and Kim are the heart of this gym. They know their stuff, but they're not just teaching martial arts; they're invested in each student's progress, making sure everyone feels included and valued. 🏕️🔥 But it's not all about what happens on the mats. Art of Motion offers a host of family-friendly activities outside the gym. From tubing and camping to tie-dyeing shirts and enjoying s'mores by a campfire, there’s always something fun going on. These events are a fantastic way to bond with fellow students and their families, adding to the sense of community. 🌟 In summary, Art of Motion Jiu-Jitsu is more than just a gym; it's a community where you’re encouraged to learn, grow, and belong. Whether you're there for the Jiu-Jitsu, Kick Boxing or the s'mores, you're in for a great experience. #ArtOfMotionJiuJitsu #ArtOfMotionKickBoxing

By far the best instructor in the Charlotte region, hands down! I take the Striking class (kickboxing & muay thai combo) that Aaron teaches. Compared to a previous martial arts training I took, Aaron King and Art of Motion provides a far more superior training, environment and culture which encourages inclusiveness. NEVER will you feel uncomfortable, invisible, or looked down on. You will feel like it is your place. No matter your age, your skills, your abilities or all the above, you will succeed. Everyone you share the mats with are uplifting, encouraging and just amazing people in general. As an instructor, Aaron is engaging, observant, and crazy good at the skills he teaches. No doubt you will leave with a smile on your face every time. If you are looking for some place to be active for whatever your reason, THIS is your place!!

I recently dropped into Art of Motion Jiu Jitsu for a week of training while visiting family. I needed a place to train No Gi for a week. Art of Motion came up in my search and offered a free week of training on their website. It can be intimidating visiting a new gym, but the owner Aaron couldn't have been any nicer or more welcoming to me. The instruction he provides is top notch and well explained. One of the days was a Gi class, Aaron provided a Gi to me at no cost. If you are thinking of trying Jiu Jitsu (clearly you are if you're reading this post) sign up today on their website for the free week. Just go! It will be the best decision you've made. I'm still kicking myself for waiting so long to try a class. Aaron and everyone at Art of Motion will make you feel welcome and part of their community right off the bat.

After more than a year, EVERY. SINGLE. WORD. of my original review remains true: Without any previous martial arts experience but after much research, it was apparent that training BJJ was the path for me. The search for a place that was friendly to beginners (but provided the opportunity to grow), close enough to home, and affordable for my family was on. Prof. King said, "The hardest thing that folks walking through the door for the first time will do in this building is often stepping onto the mat for he first time." It's important to distinguish here between "hard" and "challenging." Each class (I've taken BJJ and Group Fitness classes) is incredibly challenging both mentally and physically. The absolute hardest thing to do, though, was to step onto the mat for the first time. Like most difficult things, though, my only regret is not having done it sooner. The community is truly amazing. Many are very skilled and accomplished BJJ practitioners. At the same time, I've not run into a single person who wasn't enthusiastic (sincerely) about showing new people some new stuff! I can't say enough great things about AOM.
