Great group of guys. No egos. Very helpful. Would highly recommend dropping by.
I was traveling for work and did some drop in classes. Great instruction, family friendly, and a fun environment.
Our experience with Ares BJJ has been incredible! Our daughter started going to Jiu Jitsu a year ago when she was 6 years old. She started in their Tiny Titans program for 4 - 6 year old students and has progressed to the Titans for 7-11 year old students. The instructors are very kind and knowledgeable, and help each student learn the different techniques. It is clear that they care about all students at all levels. Ares is also a great environment with nice students and families who help families that are new to the sport learn the basics. Having a daughter, it's great that about half the instructors and students are female. My daughter has been encouraged all along the way, and we appreciate all the support she has been given. Our daughter isn't naturally very physical or competitive, but through jiu jitsu she has grown more confident in her body and built a lot of strength through the different exercises. She is very proud of the skills that she has learned and she proudly said, "I've built muscles that I wouldn't have in other sports". We highly recommend Ares BJJ.
5-Star Review for Ares BJJ My kids (8 and 5) have been training at Ares BJJ for a few years now, and I couldn’t be happier with the experience. My daughter started right before she turned 6, and my son just before he turned 4. From day one, I made it clear to the instructors that I believe in promotions based on merit and production, not participation. I asked them to push my kids within reason, and they have honored that request completely. The instructors challenge my kids while keeping it fun, creating an environment where they can grow, fail, learn, and improve. My daughter recently earned her grey with a white stripe (in the coolest way I’ve ever seen), and my son has his white belt with three red and one white stripe—all through hard work and dedication. Beyond the training, Ares BJJ has been a great community for them, with friendships forming on and off the mats. Communication with the instructors and staff has been effortless. Any questions or concerns we’ve had over the years have been handled with professionalism and care. From the quality of instruction to the positive culture they foster, Ares BJJ has exceeded my expectations. If you’re looking for a school that values real progression, discipline, and a supportive environment, this is the place.
One of the best schools around to train jiu jitsu! Staff is very welcoming, knowledgeable and skilled. Curriculum caters to those with no prior experience all the way up to experienced competitors. Check them out and you'll see - I've made some great friends for life here!
I’ve been training at Ares for 5 years. The instructors and staff are top level. From beginner to competition grapplers, they have instructors to cater to your growth and goals. With over 20 black belts, this school has a lot of body types and styles in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu to suit your needs. Try their one week free; you won’t regret it! Great women instructors and students too.
Ares is a great school. Everyone is so welcoming and kind. It's super beginner friendly. Everyone comes and introduces themselves and really create a safe environment to get started in a challenging sport. The instructors are top notch and are extremely generous with their time and knowledge.
Had an incredible experience for my 4 year olds sons first BJJ class . The instructors were kind , inviting, and patient. The academy felt welcoming, supportive, and clean . Highly recommend the kids program !!!
ARES is a great school. It is the most welcoming and supportive jiu jitsu school you could ask for. The teachers are excellent. There is a great mix of students when it comes to experience levels. Everyone seems to look out for each other and help each other get better.
Have visited here while traveling a couple of times now… great culture, welcoming students, a place I will continue to visit when in the area. Highly recommend.
Absolutely love this place, I've bounced a round to a few different places in my MMA journey, but this place has definitely been the most welcoming. Everyone goes out of their way to help you improve & every class has been wonderful & great learning experience.
Brought my son to the open mat today and we were welcomed. My son trained with some amazing people and was given pointers and some knowledge to help him with his future tournament. He would love to come back again.
I recently travelled to Roseville for work and spent the week in town. Ares BJJ was recommended to me as a training spot for the week away from home. I can’t say enough good things about the instructors and the practitioners training there. I was immediately welcomed and they showed tremendous hospitality. 10/10 I’d train with the Zombie Crew if I lived in the area! Thanks again - HMU when in Anchorage ;)
Exceptional facility with exceptional people. This school is one of the few in the area that truly exhibits the spirit and mentality of Jiu-Jitsu. They welcome all and match this kindness with exceptional instruction and technique. I have trained at six different schools over the last decade across the entire state, and I can say with certainty this gym is truly special.
During my week-long stay in the area, I had the opportunity to drop in for a training session at this BJJ gym. The instructor for the day, Manny, delivered exceptionally high-level instruction with a focus on detailed techniques. He made a point to visit each participant, offering personalized corrections and guidance on form and technique. Manny's approach was remarkably patient, breaking down complex moves into easily understandable steps. His demeanor was both cool and humble, and he generously waived the drop-in fee for me. The gym boasts a roster of skilled and humble practitioners, creating a welcoming and inclusive environment. This stands out as one of the premier gyms I've visited, and I highly recommend it to anyone in the area seeking top-notch BJJ training.
I had to move from another gym and I decided to give this place a try. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly. My kids have started training here as well and they are enjoying it very much. If you are looking for a gym that has friendly members and very knowledgeable instructors, this is your place.
Stopped in for a class while visiting the area. Very welcoming place, great no gi class. Highly recommend. Thanks for the rolls all!
Been training here for 5 months. So far I’ve had a great experience. They have several different classes throughout the week so you’ll definitely find something that works with your schedule, there’s kids classes, women’s classes, gi and no gi. Everyone I’ve rolled with has been willing to give feedback or teach me something. There’s several black belts and colored belts so you’re getting a mix of perspectives. This sport isn’t one size fits all and this gym is perfect for that. There’s several instructors so you’ll find one that fits your learning or grappling style.
I was on a work trip in Roseville for a couple of weeks and trained at Ares. It was a great fit and I'll visit again next time I'm in the area. The gym has a very laid back atmosphere and I trained with some upper belts who were very technical and competitive, but also welcoming and safe. These are all fantastic attributes of a great learning and training environment.
Ares has some of the best instructors for my 8 year old. I'm blessed to be a part of this organization.
Highly recommend Ares bjj! I was traveling to Sacramento to visit family and looking to get some training in while away, and Ares was incredibly welcoming and hospitable! As a competitive jiujitsu practitioner, there was lots of other athletes to offer competitive and challenging rounds! there is a lot of talent at their gym, everyone was generous with their knowledge and skills, friendly and proficient! Can't recommend them enough!
As a father I was trying to figure out how to engage my kids more in athletics--the instructors are great at working with kids, showing them respect and having fun all while teaching new skills. For anyone older--the atmosphere is one that encourages teaching and carries no ego. Great place to be.
This is a super welcoming community and a great place for all levels to come train. My parents live in Roseville, and I come to visit them a few times each year. I started training jiu-jitsu about a year ago, and didn't want to miss a week for training. I stopped in and was immediately welcomed by a few other people. Then a higher-level belt came up and offered to partner with me during the drills. When it came time to grapple, I had no difficulty finding someone to roll with on my first night. I've had bad experiences with other gyms in the past, but this one made up for a lot of them. Excited to come back and train here again over the holidays!
I'm an out-of-towner that dropped in for an open mat. It's a big, well-kept, clean facility. And the folks there from every age, skill, and background were all very welcoming. It's a very mellow and wholesome vibe. Not a lot of formalities, and everyone was there to have fun and/or learn - not super competitive. I highly recommend it. If I lived nearby, I would join this gym.
I’m in town for work & this place was so welcoming. Excellent instructors and friendly training partners who worked around my injuries. Definitely recommend!
Ares is a great affiliation with talent!
This is great place for kids ! Manny and Chewy are best professors ! My child is happy to train with them for almost a year .
I've been fortunate to train at quite a few gyms throughout CA over the years, and am very happy I've ended up with Ares as my home gym. Here's what I look for in a gym and how I think they stack up: Clean/safe - yes friendly atmosphere - very welcoming, popular kids and women's classes as well gi and no gi - yes weird uniform requirements - nope, wear whatever color gi you want, just have good hygiene encourages cross training - yup, plenty of regular visitors from other schools encourages competition - yes, even if comp isn't your thing, I always think it's good to see that the instructors believe in the students and what they're learning. high level BJJ - yes, very skilled instructors and plenty of high level students high level teaching - yes well rounded grappling - yes, definitely not limited to one style, everything from old school bjj to modern inversions and leglocks. Class availability - great, classes at all times of the day price - standard Hope this helps anyone looking to train!
Didn’t ever think I’d get into Jiu Jitsu. Wrestled for four years and thought that’s all I wanted to do is just wrestle. But my Dad and brother started doing Jiu Jitsu and then I decided why not just try it. So far I’m really into it, even way more than wrestling. The instructors are great people and easy to talk to. You’ll make many friends there and even a new family I’m sure of it! You’ll regret not coming here and not being part of this great community and life changing sport!
I’m so happy I found Ares in Roseville. The instruction is second to none. I usually only find time at 6 am to train and luckily we have a super strong group to train with. I don’t think you’ll find as good a group as the zombie squad at 6 am. I feel at home here.
Clean gym, highly skilled instructors, and a welcoming atmosphere. This is the perfect environment to get you to where you want to be, no matter the skill level or goal.
Im from out of town and was only visiting, but everyone was supper nice and welcoming. Not to mention the good rolls
Traveled from Texas to Sacramento for work and decided to drop into Ares BJJ. I absolutely loved their atmosphere and work ethic. If you’re in the area you need to check out this gym! Thank you Chuy!
Super nice gym with a great couch
Professor Manny is a diligent, thorough, and humble instructor. The whole staff was generous in their dealings while I was staying in the area, and the gym provides tough but fun people to train with. This is the place I'm coming back to whenever I'm in the area.
Having been to several different BJJ schools in the area, Ares Roseville was the first one that I felt embraced new faces. Each class receives instruction from a highly skilled black belt and several other upper belts to support with questions from students. I would recommend this BJJ school to all looking to advance their combat knowledge.
Dropped in while I was passing through town. What a great group of people. Everyone was respectful and very helpful. If you want professional high class jiu jitsu, this is the place! Drew from Idaho
Im from Milwaukee and came in to get some work in. I was amazed on how welcoming everyone was. Coach chuy was awesome and super detailed during his class. I will most definitely come again next time I’m in the area.
This was a great gym and community to pop into. As a new practitioner of BJJ (white belt), and dropping in to train while on the road, this was the perfect place to drop in.
Great coaches. Great team.
I came to Ares BJj on a Friday for the noon class. I was in the area for a memorial service and wanted to get some training in. Everyone was welcoming and had great attitudes. Highly recommend if you live in the area.
Super welcoming, smart instruction, really clean. Thank you for letting my family visit. Looking forward to learning from you all again!
I love visiting this gym. The instruction is top notch and everyone is always friendly, welcoming and helpful. They have a bunch of different color belts and people in different sizes everytime I visit there. I'm 105lb and pretty small but never had a hard time finding people to roll with and learn a ton. The vibe is good, it's probably one of my favorite parts of this gym highly recommended!!
I have to say, I'm not a sporty kind of mom in the traditional sense. Although, I did play some volleyball in high school and took a lap swimming course in college, I was not prepared for this type of contact sport.. It wasn't until all 3 of my kids came to me asking to join something..oh heck, they’d try anything, that was when I realized that they were more than curious. They were serious and determined to try their fate at anything just to say they had DONE IT! They were ready to commit and so I asked them one by one, what sport did they want to try out for? I heard one say "Soccer!" Another said, "Volleyball!" And the littlest said "Karate". As summer approached, they had their hopes up to start their selected sport. I had to keep my word to let them try something. As I searched for karate schools I came across a Jiu Jitsu Academy not far from home. I messaged the contact online and I received a prompt reply by someone by the name of Julio. Yes, my message to Ares BJJ of Rocklin - Jiu Jitsu Academy, was the kind of message that only a desperate mom would send (such as I felt), when asking for help with starting 3 kids in a program and also I needed to start them THAT day! I know.. it’s crazy right?!? Well..it's paid off. Kids are happy, healthy and committed. Here's where they start to shine..Julio patiently listened to what I wanted to do and gave me all the important details. I felt like we mattered. We started the boys that day and 2 weeks later, my daughter joined. At first she was unsure but soon she was curious about all the chatter from her brothers. Probably due to all the good things she heard from her brothers. She was a little unsure if she would fit in and what the whole BJJ culture was truly all about, but after the first class she realized that it was going to be even better for her if she hung around for awhile training in Jiu-Jitsu. After 2 months of training at Ares BJJ of Rocklin, I am so thankful that we found something that all three of my kiddos love and enjoy. It makes THIS mom really proud to be able to help my kids find something that is both challenging and nurturing for their growth as a human being. All the while, gaining strength and resilience and having a ton of fun training along the way. They look forward to it and all say that they need to go. They get excited and aware of the days and times that they have practice. Honestly, I'm so glad I started them NOW. If I had known what BJJ was about as a kid, I think I'd have committed to the practice. As energetic and tough competitors, Manny and Dorothy are 2 truly dedicated and humble practitioners who are synergistic and collaborative when it comes to teaching others their craft. You will agree that your child(ren) will have gained a great deal of nurturing from them to build strong and confident minds in our children. The adult classes are also amazing as my daughter is taking the fundamentals class for beginners. She is much bigger than the other kids and prefers to be challenged. Jean and Julio both teach the class on separate days but have been so accommodating to our family and consistent in their approaches. Since joining, I've been so impressed by the way they run their programs. All instructors are there because they have a passion for BJJ. They impart their knowledge on the students and are thoughtful in their words and in their approach. To their credit, when all of the parents, kids, and adult students have nothing but positive things to say of Ares BJJ Rocklin - Jiu-Jitsu Academy, WHY wouldn't YOU TRY it? I'm next! 🤞 They don't disappoint! #AresBJJofRocklin #bestofthebest #unity #trust #community #caring
I was visiting family in Roseville & the gym welcomed me for two classes. Excellent gym! Highly competitive students, fantastic staff, professor Julio's class was great, absolutely clean facility, everything. 5/5 would recommend.
Was in Roseville for a week for work and tried out Ares BJJ. Manny the head instructor opened his door and treated me like one of his own students. Very professional and great training session when I attended class. Recommend to everyone in the area to try out this gym you won’t be disappointed. 👍🏽
There’s a reason they only have 5 stars on their reviews! It may seem too good to be true, but it’s true. I read a bunch a reviews and honestly if you go, you’ll probably be writing the same thing because they deserve it. High level instructors, great atmosphere, people, and very clean gym. Doesn’t matter, who you are, what level, or how much experience you have. You need to go and experience for yourself. Definitely my gym to go to now when I’m in town. Rare to find a place that does both Gi and No Gi. And they have more than one class a day! Pretty hard to find a gym like this! Thank you to all the instructors and everyone I had a chance to meet on my visit! I’ll definitely be back here again! OSS!
Ares Roseville is the gold standard for BJJ schools in the Sacramento area. You have high level instructors, TONS of amazing training partners, an incredibly supportive atmosphere, morning/afternoon/evening/weekend classes, kids classes, and even a couple of showers with freshly washed towels every day. Plus a free week trial to try it out!
I have trained a lot of places. Just ducked in for a lunch class when I was in town. Great people great Jujistu. I look for places that focus on teaching. That’s how you get better at Jujistu. When I’m in town I’ll definitely be back to train.
I have been training at Ares since 2018 and since the first day I came in as a newb the owners and instructors have been professional and treated me with respect. There is great leadership at this school. When something is right they keep it going and if something is wrong they fix it. You can see how the whole team respects each other because of the culture they have created there. If you have never trained before and are hesitant, make the leap and come by and learn the power of OSS!!! If you have had a bad experience at another gym, Ares is different. Come by and see for yourself.
Beyond excited to have my grandchildren train at such a fantastic BJJ school. The teachers are kind and knowledgeable, the facilities are clean and tidy and whenever we have come for promotions, the atmosphere has been welcoming and friendly.
Warm and welcoming everyone is treated as family. My kids were able to have a free one time session to see if they enjoyed it which they did. Instructors took their time to help ones that weren’t understanding or who have fallen a little behind. Clean.... they take sanitizing and keeping everyone safe to the fullest. This school is both amazing and fun for the whole family. Plus they have guest instructors to keep everyone on their feet. I would definitely recommend Ares Brazilian jiu jitsu. Amazing school for the family or yourself to also learn self defense and to keep safe in any situation.
Love Ares Jiu- Jitsu! My 4 year old, rough and tumble boy needed an outlet to be himself but needed the discipline that Martial arts brings. He was bored with Gymnastics, bouncing off the walls at home and needed something more. He has been here for a year now and it has been the best thing for him. The instructors are amazing. When he started hitting at home they checked in with him at each class and let him know that behavior was not acceptable. They helped him control his behavior and encouraged him to use that aggression on the mat in an appropriate way. We love the environment here. My daughter started wrestling but there were hardly any girls in class so switching her to Ares was so helpful in giving her that physical contact with lots of girls her age as well. We love the friends and the community here. It is a very family friendly place as my husband trains and takes the kids to his class and all the kids waiting for their parents play together.
Awesome place highly recommend! Great coaching staff and students as well!
What an awesome place was hesitant to start training but as soon as I came through the doors I felt welcomed! Very knowledgeable teachers and also students. Everyone is always helping each other it’s great!
Great place to train, good people, and a family environment
Visited all bjj schools before joining. Every bjj school in Roseville area is great but Ares Bjj definitely stood out. Area has experienced professors who care about each student, and plenty of higher belts during every class that are very friendly and help you progress. Very clean area, two showers, big mat. This school is a great choice if you want to learn bjj for competition, self defense, or just to get and stay in shape.
Honestly, didn't know what to expect, always wanted to learn jiu jitsu and i didnt know where to start. Ares was referred to me by my trainer, and the best decision I made. The staff are super open and kind. I was welcomed with open arms and felt part of the family right of the bat. They are very knowledgeable about what they are doing and really want every person to improve. If you're looking for a great community, I'd start here.
Having visiting most of the Jiu Jitsu schools in the area, I have to say that Staff and Instructors at Ares were very knowledgeable and welcoming. I would highly recommend at least coming by for a visit!
If you're looking for the best BJJ school in the area, Ares BJJ is the place! From the moment I walked into those doors I was welcomed with open arms. Ares BJJ Roseville has become my home away from home. Such a great family atmosphere and world class instruction! The BJJ is top notch with world class competitors and instructors in Professor's Manny, Chuy, Jimmy, Wes, Bill, Julio, Benny, Allen, Bruce, and Jon. The school is clean, the mats are clean and large, and the showers are great! Wide range of class times to work around your schedule and overall just a great place to be!
Great school for all levels from complete novice to advanced competitor!
One of the areas best BJJ schools. Knowledgeable teachers Wide range of training partners. Large and diverse classes Great kids classes Accommodating class schedules
Excellent instructors! They are great with kids and adults and always work to tailor the instruction to the levels of the students. Very nice group of students too who make it a comfortable environment to learn.
Compared to many of the local BJJ gyms, this is a no-brainer: * the space is clean and tidy (no dust and random clutter!) * the business is very professionally run by a team of passionate owners * modern, effective world-class techniques (esp important if you want to compete at all); the devil is in the details of each technique! * the owners spared no expense to keep everything up-to-date * the instructors are attentive during class, friendly and always ready to provide constructive input for improvements * the owners take feedback seriously and always follow through based on practicality and feasibility; responses are always direct and honest (as opposed to, "that sounds good... we'll see...") * for those who care, the A/C is on in the summer... not all BJJ gyms do this! * systematic and organized class material * if you're evaluating for your kids, I can't stress how important it is to have good instructions early on to build a strong foundation! Sloppy techniques lead to sloppy habit which will be hard to correct later!
ARES BJJ is one of the best Jiujitsu schools in the nation . It’s my favorite place and my kids favorite place . No ego , no negativity, all good vibes and great teachers that love what they are doing . Highly recommended to anyone that want to learn Jiujitsu .
Ares is a second home to our family. I can not praise the instructors enough. My daughter and husband have been training at Ares for 3 years now after leaving our previous gym. The kids class is phenomenal and we can't wait for our next little one to hit the mat! Thank you, Ares!
Amazing BJJ. And Great people.
I highly recommend this studio to others. The jiu-jitsu classes and staff have been nothing short of amazing for my nephew. We really appreciate the love and support they show our military veterans. They not only care about their physical health but their mental health as well. This is a great family oriented business for all ages.
This is the best BJJ academy in the Roseville/Rocklin/Lincoln area. Whether you're brand new to BJJ or you're a seasoned competitor, Ares BJJ Rocklin has something for you. This academy is extremely clean (and it has showers!) and family-oriented. The students are respectful, and the teaching staff is committed to earning your business and helping you meet your goals.
Love this place!! Great instructors and members. Everybody is willing to help you succeed and learn. Try them out!
Let me tell you a little something about training at Ares BJJ Roseville, not only do you get THE best instruction, and coaching from the Professors, everyone that you meet and train with, becomes part of a giant extended family. When I show up at Ares, I’m instantly home away from home, and to be honest, there are times where I’d rather be training at Ares, then being at home. Nothing but smiles, camaraderie, and some seriously bad a$$ jiujitsu. I’d guarantee if you come in with an open mind, you'll find yourself returning, and making Ares your new home away from home as well.
Awesome instructors, great environment, instruction is outstanding and there are a variety of classes for every age. I highly recommend Ares BJJ for everyone who wants to increase their Jiu Jitsu and learn in a professional academy.
We have been going here for over 1 year and we couldn't be happier with the coaches, owners & the community of GREAT families that go there. We have felt nothing but welcome since day 1. It's a family oriented/friendly place. Coach Manny was MADE to coach & teach kids!
I had zero experience and from day one I felt welcomed. I learned so much about BJJ and myself thanks to all the great instructors and students. This is hands down the place to train in that area.
I feel so fortunate to have been introduced to Ares Roseville so early in my BJJ journey. Outstanding instruction, superior training, and the best training partners you could ask for!! Don’t wait until you’re “in-shape” to start training. From the very first minute in the mat, Jiu Jitsu will start “shaping” you! Come train today!!
My home away from home. What ever Jiujitsu journey you’re on - the people at Ares are 100% supportive. Pros: -Instructors will spend an hour + going over techniques and drilling. They will often do situational rolls to help you be more comfortable with the technique before free rolls. -Safety is a huge priority for the coaches, and will have upper belts work with lower belt on techniques. -If you’re new and small (like myself) the coaches will have you work with someone close to your size. Until you find your favorite partners to drill with. -Very family oriented. The parents often train as well as the kids. -Has BOTH no Gi and Gi. EVERY WEEK (main reason I checked out the school in the first place) -Everyone has open communication on what they are looking for in a roll. Some days I go there wanting to work until I’m exhausted, and other days I’ll let a partner know to put me in the same position so I can work on an escape. - noon classes are lab classes - want to really dive in to a technique? Take a lunch break and get your mind blown. Cons: - I have to work to pay bills so I can’t train multiple times a days, everyday..... ugh. Seriously, come check us out! You’ll find what you’re looking for in a Jiujitsu school AND you’ll have fun. :)
Fantastic instructors and family environment. Ares is not only the best BJJ you can find but the atmosphere is equally unmatched.
What a great experience training at Ares jiu jitsu in Roseville. From beginner level to high level instruction, the instructors are some of the best, friendly and family atmosphere . Thank you Ares Jiu Jitsu in Roseville!
Ares BJJ of Roseville is an amazing Academy with world class instructors and great class time options to fit any schedule. This school also offers a wide range of training opportunities from fundamental basics through high level competition. All members are welcoming and great training partners. If your interested in learning BJJ, come join this team whom is dedicated to each students growth.
Fantastic place! Everyone is welcoming and the instruction/training is top notch. I am so thankful that I found Ares!
Although I have only trained a handful of times at Ares, I have been blown away by this school. The family friendly atmosphere will make you feel welcome and the top notch instruction will take you to the next level. My girlfriend attends classes here as well and has trained BJJ for a long time. She has been empowered by what a positive atmosphere it has. The community at Ares is second to none, it feels like a being part of family and is a perfect place to send your kids to train. In other words Ares has something for everyone. Also I'm always impressed by how many black belts are around this school helping lower belts at open matt or in class. At Ares they really put a lot of energy into improving your game.
I've been training for a few years now and I wouldn't call anywhere else home. Great trainers, great training partners and zero ego. The thing I like the most about ARES is that it's part of an affiliation with schools all over the world. You can train casual or for fun but if you want to compete in tournaments, you have some of the best tournament champions in the world at your disposal.
Ares BJJ Roseville is more than just another gym, it's truly a family. Everyone there is welcoming and friendly to anyone they meet, long time members and new students alike. Just being in there you feel the positive energy and vibes flow. The staff and instructors are knowledgeable, world class instructors with a circulating curriculum that gives you all the tools and instruction to properly grow in the sport. The place is clean, everyone works hard together on the mats and laugh together even harder. There is a massive amount of respect and integrity shown by everybody, students and instructors alike. I can't recommend this place highly enough. In my 15 or so years of Jiu-Jitsu I have to say it's the best place I have trained yet. My social anxiety disappears completely as soon as I walk in the door, it feels like walking into a second home.
I have cross trained at Ares since I was a blue belt and they have always treated me like family while visiting. The training is top notch with so much attention to detail. More importantly they give back to the community and support any event they can. I’m happy to now call this amazing gym my home!
I’ve been to many Jiu Jitsu academies and have never felt more at home than I do here. I haven’t been here for long and already feel like I’m making more progress in a few months than I have in my 4 previous years of training combined.
I’ve known the owner of this gym for years, all fantastic people. You won’t find a more welcoming place or more knowledgeable instructors!
Nice facility with plenty of mat space and a really welcoming atmosphere.
I began here as a 35 year old who wanted to do something physical and participate in a sport with my kids. I was initially worried about fitting in to a gym with a lot of bada** BJJ practitioners, but this gym isn't a normal gym at all. It's an incredibly welcoming community, and I felt like I was at home the second Professor Julio handed my my rental gi for the first class. That's the best part about this experience so far. The members genuinely want to see everyone improve, and Professor Manny, Professor Julio, Professor Chuy, Professor Bill, Professor Ben have been nothing short of amazing. There are also amazing teachers for the kids classes (John and Michelle) on Saturdays. On the kids class front, my daughter is 5 years old and does the Tiny Titans (4-7 age group) with Professor Manny, and it's had a profound and immediate impact on her. We now get to learn a new sport together, share a new bond, and Manny has been at the center of helping her grow in many ways. I cannot recommend this place highly enough. Show up, be embraced by the community, get addicted to the sport, and you'll be here for life.
Ares is an excellent place to train! Very knowledgeable instructors, great people to train with. Jiu jitsu is a great way to challenge yourself and get a good workout, best place to do it!
This place is awesome! The gym is clean, well ventilated and has lots of space. The instructors there are very knowledgeable, patient and kind. They take their time to teach a move and come around to give personal instruction to make sure you got it down. We then went into rolls where everyone pushed you to your limits but in a safe and controlled manner. The best thing about this gym though is the showers. Now, you have no excuse not to hit an early morning class, shower and then get to work. 10/10 would come again. Thank you so much Professor Manny for the the incredible class.
Ares has been the biggest blessing in my life this year. I’ve been officially training at Ares Roseville since November 2019. However I’ve known the owners for years and they’ve all been consistently good, honest people. This school caters to everyone from children’s classes, to women’s self defense, to people who train for fun/exercise, to high level competitive athletes. Whatever your jiu jitsu goals are Ares Roseville is the best place to achieve them. I’m so thankful for the authenticity and support I have experienced here. It’s not just a place to train, it is a family and truly my home away from home.
Amazing people and such a welcoming environment. For someone that has explored many jiu jitsu places around the world. This had the be the most comfortable more challenging schools I’ve been to. Great upper belts with good knowledge. Manny and Julio representing the school well. Willing to sit and teach with in the roll which I value. Also genuine humans no ego. Speaks volumes to the School and the students that reflect the school
I always have a great experience every time I stop by Ares BJJ. The family environment makes it easy to drop in and train. The instructors are legit black belts and very nice guys. If you live in the area and want to compete or train for fun this is a great place to start
I had a great time at Ares, attended my first class tonight. The instructor and students were all kind and welcoming. 5 stars all across. Plenty of room to train and very clean compound .
Amazing experience with the staff and members. I just started 3 weeks ago and the instructors are always by my side guiding me through making sure I don't fall behind. Everyone is super respectful and always ready to lend a hand for help. My first week was free, you just walk in, they give you a Gi to borrow and you start learning.
So I just want to comment on how welcoming this gym is. I am pretty shy on going into jiu jitsu gyms because usually there’s just too many guys, but with the pulling and tugging from my friend I finally gave it a shot. I was horrible, but they were very patient with me. I also found out there’s a girls class for free, at least for now. I want to say it’s to attract more females to the sport or they were doing a special. Either way, I love it. I happened to drop in during the kids class and the instructor was so great with them. I spoke to some parents watching on the side and they also love the kids class. I used to work for a summer camp and having parents around was never idle, but this place welcomes the parents and even encourage them to stick around. I recommend it to my friend with three kids. Two of them already signed up. The third one is too young. Their boy was a shy kid and didn’t like to have any physical contact with outside people, but now he is so much more relax and I can see so much more confidence when I go out with them. I don’t know if it’s nature of the sport or this facility has an amazing culture, but a definite 5 stars for this location. Very clean, very encouraging, great instructors, their students are nice, can feel their passion for the sport. Excellent.
Ares bjj has a great atmosphere for adults and kids. Not only are all the instructors knowledgeable and welcoming but so are all the other training partners.
My daughter was choked by a boy during class. They have very few instructors for the number of kids, so the instructor didn’t see it. They didn’t do anything when I told them about it, and didn’t seem to care about what happened to her. Then I wrote them an email cancelling our recurring payment and wrote why. They never wrote back and continued charging month after month. I only got them to stop charging us when I disputed it via my credit card company.
I don’t enjoy leaving negative reviews but I also don’t know how to get in touch with the owner, or anyone in charge of this gym. On Monday I signed my son up for a free week trial on the website. I chose a class for today, and signed the waivers online. We followed all the instructions and showed up today 15 minutes early. I walked to the desk and waited with my son for a few minutes but nobody came up to us. I spoke to someone in a Gi standing nearby and said my son was here for a free trial. He responded with ‘oh!’ and was clearly not the person I should be talking to, so I thought maybe I should check my son in on the iPad on the desk and then waited a few more minutes, but nobody on the floor came and talked to us. So my son suggested we wait on the couch, and we sat and waited. When his class was supposed to start, the class on the floor didn’t stop and nothing in the gym changed. We were still being ignored fifteen minutes past when his trial class should have started. It just got uncomfortable and awkward so we left. We will obviously be going to try a different gym now, but I just hope a manager or owner reads this and hopefully can prevent this from happening to someone else in the future. It was very disappointing.
My kid got his back injured cause they arranged a fight with another teenager twice the size that is special needs and was known to be aggressive, instructors nowhere close to supervise until it was too late and now we have long ways to go for recovery…we left and aren’t coming back They have too many kids at the same time and very few instructors at the time…you’d think that with how expensive the fees are that they could add more instructors…and the kids class is more of them running around with games than actually being thought something…disappointed.
