  Training Jiu-Jitsu has been a life-changing experience for me. It has had a positive impact on my health and mental well being. I find myself using its technical beauty in my everyday activities. I'm not sure if this would have been achievable in any other gym. Murry is not only one of the best teachers I've known but also one of the most genuine. He puts his heart and soul into each and every member there. This, in turn, is instilled into each and every member there. We are truly like family. I highly encourage anyone that is visiting Gardendale to stop by and have a session with us. Striving to better the lives of us and everyone around us!

  ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I can’t recommend Apex Academy enough! I started training here six months ago with zero experience in BJJ, and not only have I learned a ton, but I’ve also lost 30 pounds in the process. The coaches are knowledgeable, supportive, and truly invested in helping everyone improve—regardless of skill level. The environment is welcoming, the classes are challenging but fun, and the community is incredibly motivating. Whether you’re looking to get in shape, learn self-defense, or just try something new, this is the place to do it. Signing up here has been one of the best decisions I’ve made for my health and confidence!

  We’ve attended several kids classes and Murry is great with the kids. Very patient and works well with them. While he doesn’t teach Karate, he does teach the MOST EFFECTIVE base for self defense, JIU JITSU.

  Murray is an incredible instructor. He has an uncanny ability to connect with younger students - I’ve personally witnessed his patience in a tough setting and was in awe. Where I would have snapped, he remained calm and his only comment to me was “we are all fighting our own battles.” He offers a very skilled and educated perspective for those who seek a more serious or competitive approach to Jiu Jitsu as well. 5 stars all day.

  I visited Apex while I was in town for the holidays. They were very kind and welcoming! I appreciate how the coach took time to make sure I had a training partner throughout the class. Everyone was friendly and happy to train with me. Can't wait to go back next time I'm in town!

  We have been sending our kids here to train for about a year now! Coach Murry is so patient with the kids but also encourages them to train hard but most importantly have fun! He is also respectful of us parents. I can tell he has the kids' best interest at heart, which really makes a great coach! The kids look forward to classes each week and have learned so much! I highly recommend the kid's classes!

  The best jiu jitsu school I've been to. I've been training with these guys for years because they are great training partners and instructors. There's a great gym culture here. The perfect balance of safety and competitiveness.
