Coach Kevin is an amazing teacher. Very knowledgeable in the field with up to date real life real world tactics that I feel will be very useful. It's a fun environment with lots of learning and friendship. I have some joints that don't work too well sometimes and he has tailored what I'm learning to fit with my physical level. That is something spectacular and unique as I wouldn't be able to just go to any martial arts studio. I'm very grateful and appreciative to be a part of a community there. It definitely feels like more than showing up for class. Thank you! I would recommend this place for children and adults as each would find something that would propel them forward in life.

My son tried all the martial arts spots in Ankeny and he liked this one the best. Coach Deaver is great with the kids and the classes are always fun. Since coming here I've noticed my son's confidence go up and he looks forward to coming to class each week. Highly recommend!

Mr. Deaver engages all kids in his classes and is very patient with each student. He always has a positive word for everyone entering his gym and greets each child by name. We have tried other studios in the area, but Ankeny Martial Arts has been far superior to the others!

My son love's to go to his classes he won't miss a single one. Mr. Deaver goes the extra mile to get the best out of his students. Very clean and well kept facilities. In general were very satisfied with the services AMA its providing us.

AMA is great! There’s lots of personalized attention which has been really beneficial to my son. It works on his focus and ability to follow instructions. This has been such a positive program for him. Kevin is great and so patient with the kids. At my son’s 4-5 year old level they are learning basics. And I see my son thriving and he always looks forward to going to class.

As a father and 3 sons we are greatly enjoying our time in traditional Taekwondo class as it has been great to learn self defense and also be active, gaining muscle flexibility and just being there for each other as a dad and his boys. Mr. and Mrs. Deaver are very kind and helpful and they care very much for each student and seeing them continually improve. I am very grateful for Mr. Anderson and his teaching and the patience and support he gives us 4 (and the entire class) is ideal for learning and following through with each weeks teaching.
I don’t know many his age that I respect more. Mr. Inman is also a great contributor to all things Ankeny Martial Arts. We are all so glad to be apart of this class and look forward to moving forward as a family!

More than just self defense
My daughter started through the Ankeny Parks and Rec program. We expected it to be someone with little experience herding children in a community building. It wasn’t. We were amazed that it was hosted by an accomplished martial arts family in a nice facility specially designed for teaching the craft. They are a local small business that has been around for almost 20 years and we didn’t know it existed.
After the P&R classes ended my daughter wanted to join. My wife and I were hesitant because of the time commitment and membership fee, and our daughter was only seven. We realized this was something she was enjoying and it wasn't any different from the sports that our other kids were in, soccer and gymnastics, both of which cost way more and took just as much, if not more time.
After watching my daughter engage for a month, I decided to make it a father-daughter venture and join myself. It has been a wonderful experience. It is something that we get to spend time together doing.
The classes accommodate adults and children and it is so much more than self-defense. My daughter has learned patience, focus, confidence, being calm, being respectful, and it has strengthened her memory and muscles and improved her endurance. And then there is the part where I don’t worry about her being bullied, or doing the right thing.

Mr. Deaver is an exceptional person. His black belt student instructors are top notch. Wyatt loves the Lil Ninjas and the youth Tae kwon do programs. His confidence, balance and agility have all improved since starting the classes. Highly recommend.

Martial Arts is something I have always wanted to do. In retirement I now have the time to do so. Monday and Wednesday mornings at 9:00 fits my schedule. I chose the art of Hapkido. It is a self-defense art that is conducive to my age and physical ability. I am learning techniques and am not getting thrown to the ground. Mr. Deaver, the instructor, is knowledgeable in both Hapkido and Tae Kwon Do. He is patient and “he” is the one who receives the abuse! I encourage you to get off the couch and come join us!

AMA Is a great academy. The instructors are nice and helpful. Promotion is relatively easy if you come enough and care to learn. I even met some new friends here! Would definitely recommend this academy to friends and family.

A couple of years ago my adult daughter and I wanted to take tae kwon do together, so I looked at local businesses. I couldn't have picked a better place. What I like the most is that they are not the get in your face, regimented type of place. They teach not only the Art of Tae Kown Do but how to live by the tenants of Tae Kwon Do: Courtesy, Integrity, Perseverance, Self Control, and Indomitable Spirit. It's heartwarming to watch as they teach the kids and how the kids respond, watching them as they help teach younger kids and even this older adult with respect and fun! The whole academy is a family with an open door. This weekend I test for my black belt and I can't believe it. After that, I'll be adding Hopkido (one of many other types of classes they offer. Thank you AMA!

Our daughter loves going to taekwondo here. The teachers are wonderful and very patient with the kids! They have had issues with their apps and I'm still not sure it's working but overall they have been wonderful to work with. My daughter looks forward to going 2 times a week.
