At American School of Martial Arts Burbank we study "Suh Do Kwan" Kung Fu. Its roots stem from Kang Duk Kwon, Shudokan, and Ch'uan Fa, Yang-style Tai Chi, and Chi Kung ( Qigong ). Our daughter started training less than a year ago, and dad trained here when he was younger as well. Just months after starting here our daughter was the target of a bully at school and was attacked at school with minimal training she was able to use what she had learned to defend herself. Master Jack handled this as if she was own child. To say that he went above and beyond for my child in a way that no other teacher of any kind has is an understatement. She entered shy, timid, and lacked confidence. She EXUDES with confidence now. I’m so grateful for all of the amazing people here who have been instrumental in my daughter’s life. I know that this is only the beginning of her martial arts journey and I’m so incredibly proud that I get to see her progress!

This school is wonderful! They've been in Burbank since 1964 and is shows. Everyone is super nice a supportive. My Husband has been training with them since he was about 15 years old, and now our daughter and I also train at ASMA-BURBANK. It has a wonderful family environment that teaches good practical applications to help you defend yourself outside of the school. I completely recommend this place for anyone looking to start a martial arts path.

I have been training in this school since 2012. I respect and appreciate every person that is there from the students to the teachers. It is a community of people who train with sincerity, humbleness, and kindness towards everyone. I get to train my mind, body, and spirit here and I look forward to continue my training here with quality students and teachers.

I’ve been training at this school for over 10 years and I learned a lot of self-defense techniques and Martial Arts principles. I still have a lot to learn but now I have better physic and awareness. The Grandmaster is a world-class teacher, and everyone is very friendly.😊 This is a great place for anyone who wants to learn authentic Martial Arts, and they have adult class too, where you can meet up with friends and master the technique of martial arts.

Going onto year six and couldn’t be happier! The quality of teaching is top notch. The sincerity and dedication of the Grandmasters in handing down such an amazing style of martial arts is simply undeniable and you can just witness, feel and experience that zeal overflow from them to the masters, the instructors and mentors, and to each individual fighter. It sticks with traditional martial arts- one that is practical and what essentially works! The kind that doesn’t rely on brute force but correct technique, which is applicable in real life situations. There are no such requirements based on age, built, gender, social status, etc. As long as you are willing to learn, they will train and make a fighter out of you! I am very grateful to be part of a school with such a deep sense of community. Being in ASMA has played an integral role in my transformation and continued desire to grow as a better person. Everyone here encourages you to pursue and realize your dreams and achieve your goals. The school also holds events to give students the opportunity to showcase their talents and skills outside of martial arts - an excellent coupled with so much fun way to come together and support each other! :)

American School of Martial Arts is pretty much one of the best decisions I’ve ever made in my life. Not only have I learned a way of life that has translated into every part of my being, I never thought I would find a family and a home here. The Grandmasters and owners are exquisite, fine, elegant and mighty fighters. Integrity and excellence is their banner, as teachers but most of all as people. Dedication to every area of this craft, the commitment to every student as well as their A- List teachers leaves us in awe. If you desire to learn about Kung Fu, Taichi while shedding your ego in a loving safe environment ( and become a top top at this form of art, competition ready) this is the best place in California. Although if they ever moved to another state, they would be the best in that state. I would never be able to practice Kung Fu else where.

Grandmaster Baird is truly a gem in the world of Martial Arts. You can really sense his life long dedication to the craft and to teaching it. I'd definitely recommend checking out the American School of Martial Arts.

I was searching for a martial arts school for my son, who was 5 at the time. I think I visited all of the schools in Burbank. I sat in and watched their children’s classes before I decided on American School of Martial Arts. The first draw to the kids' class was the playfulness the instructors had while teaching Kung Fu. The love and respect the teachers give their students makes the school stand out. You can see it in the kids that they can feel that love. The kids weren't getting bored just screaming 1,2,3,4,5 while punching and kicking. The kids are engaged. I was in awe! After two years, my son is in the juniors class and my daughter, 6 months ago, started and is loving the pee wee’s class. What also needs to be mentioned is The American School of Martial Arts’ amazing Tai Chi class, which I have been taking for almost two years. The Tai Chi class is powerful, philosophical and centering- an asset for anyone looking for a low impact but powerful martial arts form. American School of Martial Arts has become a great value to my family. You should have no reservations about experiencing all that this amazing school has to offer on many different levels.

I am in my 18th year, training at American School of Martial Arts under Grandmaster Don Baird. First and foremost, I can attest, the school stands on a foundation of Integrity. Master Baird is so dedicated to maintaining a system of quality, traditional martial arts that teaches effective self-defense and sincere development of the Self. There is a feeling of tradition from the moment you enter the school, and the people American School of Martial Arts attracts are among the best I've ever met...truly dedicated individuals who train hard and have fun, and who are committed to the improvement of themselves and each other.
