Was traveling with a friend of mine for a competition we decided to stop by coach Alex martins gym! There was no mat fees! Him and his team were very welcoming! He told us we can use any machines we needed including the sauna to cut weight! Very nice knowledgeable guy who showed us some techniques at the end of training! Definitely recommend this gym!

This is a fine academy, a family place where hard work, discipline and camaraderie are combined. Our two grandkids started jiu-jitsu this year under the competent supervision of Alex Martins and his team and quickly fell in love with the sport. Alex is a super champ and a great master. His team is second to none and the atmosphere is welcoming and friendly. And btw this is not just for kids. There are plenty of adults who come for specialized classes. There is a place for everyone here who is serious about learning bjj. Come check it out!
Work sometimes brings me to Dallas for a night or two. I have visited other BJJ gyms in the area, but my experience with Alex and his team has been fantastic. They offer everything that I would want in a BJJ gym and BJJ culture. The first time I visited I was a white belt. The warm ups are tuff and they rotate various games and drills that are useful in practice. Alex’s teaching is efficient and detailed. When it was time to roll he separated the white belts from upper belts as a way to protect new athletes. (Appreciated) The second time I visited I had progressed to blue belt. He taught 3 sweeps from deep half guard. We rolled 5, 5 minute rolls. He had us stay active with crunches or shrimps during the breaks which I haven’t seen before, but appreciate and know it is to build your endurance. The guys in this gym are legit. I have visited places where peoples skill did not match their belt level. Now as a blue belt these guy gave me competitive rounds and new challenges. You can tell Alex’s puts an emphasis on clean passing and guard retention. Shout out to the guy who passed my guard twice with a slick Toreando pass. I love that this gym has a large youth class and a good mix of boys and girls. It’s rare that you’ll find a gym with large female presence. This is a result of Alex’s team cultivating a culture of professionalism, protection, and friendliness. Overall I would recommend this gym for anyone starting out or who is already involved with the sport. My experience taught me that if you stick with these guys you will feel like family, be pushed with good competition, and leave every session feeling accomplished. Alex Martins woman’s self defense (bjj) class is extremely helpful. Not only does it teach the technique needed for the sport but also important techniques to use for self defense. It sucks how the world has become but I’m extremely thankful for finding classes designated to empower and protect woman. It is a safe space for woman, highly recommend!!!

The coaches here are great with kids; more so than many other kid oriented classes we’ve tried for our daughter. It’s also extremely worth the cost, as most places that charge the same monthly fee have one class a month, whereas AMBJJ has four a week!
From the first time you step in the gym it’s clear every staff member and coach loves what they do. They pour into the kids and get to know every family & kid that trains. They love to motivate & inspire each other, while also teaching useful skills. Seeing adult members & kids compete is amazing due to the community that’s been built within the gym. I had an incredible experience at Alex Martins BJJ today! The atmosphere was very welcoming and accommodating from the moment I walked in. Alex, the owner, was particularly outstanding. Not only is he extremely knowledgeable, but he also takes the time to personally engage with each member. I have been doing BJJ at AMBJJ for just over a year now. I started my journey at 47 years old. I can’t say enough great things about AMBJJ, Professor Alex and all the coaches. On a personal level, BJJ has helped me become not only physically stronger, but also emotionally stronger to deal with the day to day of being an entrepreneur. I’m a lot more confident in other areas of my life. My 5 yr old son also started last year too and it has also helped him with his confidence. My son is a sensitive and shy kid, but Professor Alex has done wonders with him. It’s amazing watching him run, do takedowns and knowing how to defend himself. We did private lesson with him to start because he was overwhelmed with all the kids. Then one day he tells us he’s ready to join the group class. And he’s been going since then. And finally, my wife also attended the women’s only class and recently the noon class with me. I love watching her journey as she now wants to complete. The coaches are very patient, enthusiastic, and friendly. My daughter Lucia really likes Anthony; he is very attentive and caring towards children. Gustavo is my favorite teacher; beneath his somewhat strict appearance, he has a very warm heart. He is very kind and attentive to children. Under his teaching, kids can learn a lot of knowledge.
My 4yo son has thrived at Jiujitsu school. His focus and attention skills have improved noticeably. The coaches' attentiveness and the positive environment have played key roles in his growth. We're delighted with the overall experience.

I had a great time training here on two consecutive nights while in town for a conference. I am a middle aged hobbyist blue belt and found the quality of the training partners, the friendliness of Alex and the other instructors, as well as the quality and cleanliness of the facilities to exceed my expectations. The gym is a short Uber ride from downtown, which was a huge plus for me.
Just finished a seminar with Professor Alex Martins at Zombie BJJ in Abilene. It was my favorite seminar in the 8 1/2 years I've been training. He is a very friendly and down to earth person. He genuinely cares about those he teaches on the mats. You would be missing out not to sign up at AMBJJ.

Having to frequently travel for work, I could not have found a more awesome home away from home!! Professor Alex and his team are very welcoming and truly a provide an optimal learning environment! This was quite possibly the easiest and most user friendly process to sign the waiver prior to arrival, very seamless. I cannot rave enough about the experience, from the phenomenal training/learning to how impeccable the academy is, from the mats having that competition feel to them, to the convenience of the showers! I cannot wait to come back!
I've been going to this gym for a year and a half and I can't imagine I'd be happier anywhere else. The short backstory is I'm mid 40's and started from scratch with zero experience. I officially signed up months back but have been on again off again until recently. I wanted to wait to write a review until I was able to provide an informed opinion. I've known that I wanted to pursue learning BJJ, but taking the initial leap was very intimidating for me. That being said, Professor Alex, the coaches, and the other athletes have been very welcoming. One aspect that stands out is how humbled I feel every time I step onto the mats. Pursuing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is a constant challenge, and I am consistently reminded of the depth and complexity of the art. However, the supportive environment and expert guidance from Professor Alex, Coach Maury, and the other Coaches have helped me embrace the journey and keep pushing myself to improve. It's an experience that has not only enriched my skills but also instilled a sense of humility and respect into my everyday life. I don't have the words to express my gratitude for what this challenge has provided me so far, but I'm excited to give my best effort to become a contributing training partner and see where this journey takes me.

I normally train in Austin and visited AMBJJ while traveling. I got some professional instruction on techniques in both self-defense and sport jiu jitsu. The rolls following the technique was tough with conditioning between rounds. It was exactly what I was looking for and I look forward to returning.

I'm from out of town. I came here because my daughter has been wanting to get into ju jitsu. I couldn't be happier! The kids smiled from start to finish. They were eager to start and came in with smiles. The coaches were patient with the children but taught them respect, determination, and disclipline. It was clearly seen throughout. The children treated each other well and followed guidance. You could easily see this was a place for all as each person was welcomed with open arms. Very much a family environment. Wow this school is amazing. I was in town for a few days and dropped in two days in a row. Staff lent me a nice gi both days. Update: back again and just a wonderful place to train. Out-of-Town Drop-in Review: 10 Stars Facility: Immaculate! The entire facility is beautifully maintained. On and off the mats the entire area is spotless and cleaned multiple times per day. Atmosphere: Very welcoming. Every class was instructed by Professor Martins. His ability to teach is bar none. Technical and precise to the smallest detail. Everything one would expect from a high-level black belt instructor. Those who train BJJ and are in the Dallas area a drop-in is a must! My only regret is not staying longer. Thank you for your hospitality! AMBJJ was an amazing experience!!

I stopped in to try out a class, and I hope no one else has an experience like mine! The gym smells like sweaty balls the instructor’s white gi was yellow and white belts were running in and out of the bathroom barefoot all class🤢 I took the longest shower of my life after leaving that gym! I have been practicing martial arts for many years at many different gyms and I’ve never experienced anything like this!
Toxic environment. The owner and the wife are extremely rude and talked to me with such disrespect. I would never recommend this gym to anyone. And I’ve been in martial arts for DECADES. His wife is a train wreck who acts like she can tell anyone what to do.
