Why train Aikido? In a world of conflict, aikido offers choice. In a culture of competition, aikido brings connection. Training develops body, mind, and spirit.

the kindest & most inclusive gym i've ever encountered, led by the most knowledgeable and approachable instructors! 10/10 would recommend to absolutely anyone, from black belts to open-minded couch potatoes
Wonderful Aikido experience. Good place to grow in skill and a safe, peaceful environment. Everyone is supportive, & so friendly. Love Aikikai.
This dojo has consistently been a beam of light in my sea of darkness. Ea and Eric are incredibly kind and caring people and they are such amazing teachers. They have fostered a well-knit community of passionate learners and they have so much wisdom to share, about aikido practice or about life :) As a student I feel supported as much as I feel challenged, they are always pushing me to learn more and deepen my practice, and all the members of the dojo share that passion. This is a great place to dedicate yourself to something, to take care of yourself in ways you didn’t know you needed, to feel safe throughout the vulnerability of learning something new. Whenever I face obstacles that prevent me from training, it can be nerve wracking coming back and getting into the groove again, but I am met with such compassion and encouragement no matter where I am in my training journey. Practicing at this dojo has inspired me to be a better version of myself. Practicing at this dojo has shown me a new type of self worth. Practicing at this dojo reminds me of my own potential. I can’t recommend Tacoma Aikikai more highly. Come see for yourself… it might just change your life.
We LOVE Tacoma Aikikai! It’s an extremely welcoming dojo. Our son has been going for over 2 years now and Ea & Eric are wonderful Senseis. They blend the discipline of the practice with a lot of fun for the kiddos. I am always so impressed! I love that it’s a mixed age, multi gender and diverse group for our kids to be a part of. They offer multiple children’s classes & adult classes, summer camps and more. Highly recommend!!
Awesome, I love how nice the place is!
Aikido is the practice, a great community is the result.
It is a very inviting and friendly place. The teachers (Sensei) work well with all skill levels and are very knowledgeable. They emphasize safety and injury prevention. I appreciate everything I am learning.
Instructors are kind, accomodating and very well versed in Aikado . They are able to cultivate a culture in the dojo for partner safety and for learning. Can easily recommend for anyone interested in martial arts to go to this dojo.
Perfect place to step out of your comfort zone to learn something new(Aikido) while in an encouraging and supportive environment.
The instructors at Tacoma Aikikai are more welcoming, kind, patient, and knowledgeable than I know how to describe. Every time that we step on the mat, they are encouraging us to practice and grow.
for me personally, finding aikido and investing in myself by showing up for it has had the most positive overall mental and physical health improvement benefits of any commitment i have ever made to myself. i do it because i need a schedule and a group to get my body moving and i need something to focus on just cos brain go brrrr. i do it because i’m in love with the dojo and the energy that practice brings with “exercise-related endorphins” and the reward of challenging myself to get up and try again to go to practice, get up and try again to fall more gracefully, get up and try a technique again. a major part of aikido’s benefit to me derives directly from the nature that it starts out difficult and it stays soooo difficult every time especially when i get better and stronger. i want to tell literally all of my friends to come join me at the dojo, because of the joy and light that practice has been shining for me. ✨
Teachers, students, and the dojo at large are welcoming and engaging from the very first, encouraging all of us to meet the challenges of aikido with grace and humor. Shared sweat will often make for quick community--but beyond that, there is a care and diligence in the space that I have seldom found elsewhere.
This dojo is welcoming and friendly while taking their practice seriously. I had taken Aikido since I was a kid, but stopped 20 years ago when I moved to the south sound because there wasn't any decent Aikido here. When I heard about this dojo opening... it was in the middle of Covid... but after that, I visited and it's fantastic! They work hard and play hard. They've built a great community and I feel like I'm part of the family here. Please check out a class, it's a great opportunity to better yourself while supporting a local business!
This particular Aikido school was founded in 2016, and shares a lineage similar to Tenzan Aikido in North Seattle. The instruction here is excellent, and the teachers are very knowledgeable. A very reputable school!
Amazing, professional, compassionate instructor at this dojo, who apprenticed directly with the world's top teachers in Japan. This dojo has so much to offer!
I began training at Tacoma Aikikai almost a year ago with my son, and couldn't be more pleased with our choice. We looked around at, and heavily researched, a number of other dojos (Aikido and other martial arts) and found the atmosphere of Tacoma Aikikai to be the best for us by far. Ea Sensei is patient, kind, supportive, and extremely competent both in her skills and approach to instruction (as an educator, this was an important aspect to me . . . proficiency in practice and teaching don't always coincide). There is a strong sense of collegiality and family in the dojo, so much so that my wife and daughter have chosen to start training despite having no prior interest. If you are thinking about giving it a try, don't hesitate!
I have 30 years of experience in Aikido and recently moved to Tacoma. The Tacoma Aikikai is a new school so it doesn't have many members, this gives the students a great opportunity to get a lot of individual instruction from Ea sensei. I found her classes a nice mix of exercises and technique. Her style is both powerful and precise. If you are new to Aikido this is a great place to start and if you are experienced it's a great practice.
