Advanced is a wonderful place to train self defense and get some exercise. Brian creates a great atmosphere. Have trained here for years and my oldest daughter also trained here all through high school. Highly recommend it.
Posted 11 months agoBeen training here for decades and have driven past so many schools closer to my home just to train at advanced. I promise you, it's worth every mile and every obstacle. Coach Brian has been a sage in my life and has changed my life for the better in so many ways. If you are looking to train, grow, improve your health, confidence, well being and just want to become a better person , these are the mats you want to sweat on. All Day Son and all love and respect always !!! Jay Red
Posted 11 months agoThe school has a laid back vibe with plenty of experienced students ready to share techniques and tips, an openness that comes through the instructor Brian Katz. Brian shares his knowledge and trains with the students regularly. He’s technical and very talented. Good place to train, now located in the UFC gym in North Brunswick with plenty of parking, and clean locker rooms with showers.
Posted 11 months agoLife changing martial arts training. Trained with Brian for a few decades and then brought my son in. More than martial arts. This is life training for any age and gender. Feel confident in any situation. Nothing like it.
Posted 11 months agoSigned both my sons up almost a year ago. Best decision we ever made for them. We checked out a few places but once we witnessed Brian’s class we knew we found their “home”. Kids totally enjoy each class and have picked up learnings so quickly. Brian has the amazing ability to keep all kids in class engaged and in-line without having to yell forcibly for their attention. His demeanor commands their respect and he brings an insane amount of knowledge to each session.
Posted 12 months agoI’ve stopped in and trained here when I was in the area. I didn’t regret it. Top notch training from great instructors. Excited and looking forward to coming back in to train.
Went for my first time today and had a great time !! Learned a lot and can’t wait to back better workout than the gym haha
This would be the place to go to in town if you're looking for challenging and legit workout. Everybody here is really friendly but at the same time challenging to spar with in jiu jitsu, muay thai or mma. Brian, the owner, has a ton of knowledge in all aspects of the sport and is a really legit cool dude. Highly recommended.
Just had a great intro to MMA session last night with Brian. It was excellent! I'm not a newbie by any means, but I definitely need some attention in order for me to understand what to do and to get a good workout. Brian was able to give me a great intro workout to see what I can do, and was able to work around my deficits in order to scale things for me to succeed. It was very thorough! The other present trainers and clients were also very warm and inviting and made me feel like it was a family-like setting. Place is very clean and the mats were perfect for this type of activity! Looking forward to my next workout! Highly recommend!
Great MMA gym with great people. I have been training Brazilian jiu-jitsu for ~5 years, 3 years at this school. The instructors are highly skilled and really care about the development of their students. The people are friendly and always willing to help you get better. The gym also has strength training equipment to take your game to the next level. Membership costs are fair and very reasonable.
I dropped in during a visit to the area, and am glad I did. The staff welcomed me with open arms; the students were serious, respectful, and well trained; the facilities were safe and spacious. Everyone was friendly, and I got exactly the rolls I needed despite being an out-of-towner. Open mat was well run, with partners for everyone at six-minute intervals and no shortage of takers, without the place being overcrowded. Highly recommended.
If you are having any hesitations about joining I would certainly come in and give it a try. The owner, Brian, is incredibly knowledgeable and does an amazing job teaching both Brazilian jiu-jitsu and mma style striking. Additionally, Brian is regularly bringing in guests from other schools to teach and many people travel to AMA to train on weekends which means that there is a wide variety of people to train and learn from. People in the gym are friendly and willing to put the work in to help you get better if you are willing to show up. I think the biggest testament to the quality of AMA is that people keep coming back. I have trained at several gyms that had incredibly high turn over and it was rare to see anyone train for more than a year or two. In contrast, there are plenty of guys at Advanced who have been training for multiple years and came in white belts and are now seasoned brown belts. If you are looking for a good work out and a solid group of people to train with, you should come to Advanced.
He is a great instructor. Down to earth and approachable but skilled and technically proficient at the same time. It's a great environment to train in.
Been training here for a little over a year and this place is great. Brian is a great instructor and the other guys who teach are awesome as well. There is a fairly even balance of gi and nogi classes, and everyone is quite open minded about techniques.
