A fantastic academy with all the coaches making you feel very relaxed and welcome. By far the best coaches I've had to train me jiujitsu. The prices for the amount of sessions you get a week is tremendous. Highly recommended!

My 13 year old has been attending 5th Element classes for a month now. It's a funny age to start going somewhere new, when you dont know anyone but the classes are really welcoming. The coaching is first class. Everything is explained really well and teaching is often through a range of games/challenges. Highly recommend.

My daughter has been coming to 5th element since she was 6 and is now 13 she’s progressed from the kids programme to the adults. She loves it today as much as the day she started! It’s fun for the kids and as they progress to do competitions it’s more intense but still fun, she is now in the adults and has been since 12 as she is really tall and there wasn’t really anyone for her to train with in the under 14s, the adults have all made her feel so welcome from teenagers to 60 year olds and have looked out for her in training. The coaches are all lovey but also very knowledgeable about jiu jitsu. So if your just starting or coming back into jiu jitsu 5th element is definitely a great club to join.

I had a trial session with 5th Element in September and from walking into the gym I was made to feel really welcome and became immediately hooked. From the coaches guiding me through my first techniques, the other members working with me and helping me learn and even the sparring where I realise each session just how far I still have to go! There's a real mix of ages and abilities training together meaning you never stop learning or enjoying the class, I really can't recommend 5th Element enough!

I started training at this club 7 years ago at 13 years of age in the kids programme after leaving judo and I can confidently say jiu jitsu is the best thing I’ve ever done. The gym community that has grown over the years is full of some of the most welcoming, caring and supportive people I have ever met in my life. Experiencing the transition from the kids programme to the adults programme really further ignited my passion for the sport. As a female in a male dominated sport, 5th element offers a safe training space for women with good changing facilities, other female training partners and a gym ethos of treating smaller training partners with care to avoid unnecessary injury. I have had nothing but continuous support from all training partners and have always felt looked after on the mats as one of the smaller adult members. It has never been a struggle chatting with people and it’s fair to say that you’ll never go to a session without recognising one of many friendly faces. I am now 20 years old and I cannot picture a life where jiu jitsu is not in it. The coaches do truly care about the growth of each individual and invest a lot of time into building athletes up to achieve their goals. The support for athletes wanting to compete more is fantastic and teammates all provide insight to help further your game during training. The structure of the training programme is one of the best I’ve seen and the way in which techniques are explained is very thorough. Having a gym that recognises the continuous development in the sport and can apply that to the training contents is brilliant. Reece is truly one of the most passionate coaches on the scene and the gym wouldn’t be where it is without him.

Top Academy. Cannot describe how good, professional and highest level the coaches are. Everyone makes you feel welcome. Every member is very helpful and willing to teach. Every session is a new discovery. Definitely would recommend the academy for all age groups and genders.

Top quality instruction ranging from beginners to advanced classes. Reece Doran really shows a broad spectrum of moves leaving nothing un-turned for beginners or competitors alike. Really evolved my grappling game since starting at 5th element and feel free to explore my own style. Would not train anywhere else in Durham. Friendly and welcoming enviroment. Can accredit the coaches and training partners for my first British and National titles. Jiu-jitsu saved my life!

Class gym with world class coaches and competitors, especially the head coach Reece, who is an attentive and detail oriented coach. Excellent environment for both beginners and advanced grappers, hobbyists and competitors alike. Been a life changing experience here and I’m proud to have gotten my promotions at this gym. 100% recommend for anyone in the area.

I cannot recommend 5th Element Jiu Jitsu Academy enough. Such a wonderful academy to be a part of. Great team spirit amongst everyone from the kids, to the teens and then the adults! Everyone supports each other and they literally have the best coaches! My little boy has been going for around 18 months and he has come on so much in such a short space of time. He has great discipline and a fantastic mindset. We cannot wait to enrol our youngest when he is old enough.

My son has been training with 5th element since he was 3years old. The support, guidance and training he has received from Reece, Krissy, Danny and all the other trainers has been invaluable. My son competes at competition level and is constantly being coached to a high level and never without a coach by his side. The club promotes and offers a safe environment for all individuals of all ages and abilities. Amazing club.

Best jiujitsu gym in the north east top coaches, really feel the team spirit when you walk through the door. One of the main reasons me and my son train here is because the gym is family friendly and cater for all age groups, with various sessions for all levels 7 days a week.
