1-Up Jiu-Jitsu is one of the longest running Brazilian Jiu Jitsu schools on the west-side of Cleveland. We offer classes for kids and adults, with skill levels ranging from beginner to advanced. Our mission at 1-Up Jiu-Jitsu/Team Chard West is to provide detailed instruction in Sport BJJ, Submission Grappling, and Self Defense at affordable prices that defy the current state of the market. We believe in the value of training both with and without the gi, as each style contributes to the development of the other.

Great place to train! I dropped into a class unannounced to visit a friend that trains here, and Paul (the owner) was incredibly gracious and welcoming, and invited me to train. I highly recommend stopping in and giving them a try!

1 Up Jiu Jitsu provides an incredibly welcoming and diverse group of teammates, especially for people new to the sport. Paul and Jon do a terrific job explaining techniques and methods, both verbally and visually at a pace that benefits each individual's learning style. Great place for jiu jitsu beginners, experienced players, and even kids. The instructors are very knowledgeable and created a friendly gym culture that makes students feel welcome. Whether you want to compete or just get active this is a perfect spot to challenge yourself and meet good people along the way. Bonus: it’s super affordable compared to other schools in the area.

I must say that I love and highly recommend 1-Up Jiu Jitsu!! Paul and Jon are fantastic instructors. I have never done any Jiu Jitsu prior to coming to 1-Up, which for the longest held me back from trying a gym. But deciding to give 1-Up a chance has been one of my greatest decisions. Everyone is super welcoming, the instruction is fantastic and literally everyone is willing to help you out. The classes are fun and you learn a ton every time. Plus, it's super affordable (especially for what you get). Whether you're just looking for something new to do, a new workout, or a potential way to defend yourself in real life situations, do yourself a favor, and give this a try! Jiu Jitsu may not be for everyone, but if you're interested or already know you want to learn this, then look no further than 1-Up Jiu Jitsu!

I have been going to 1-Up Jiu Jitsu for about 6 months now. Though I have done some martial arts sporadically in the past, this is my first exposure to BJJ. What I like about it besides the great group of people, is that it is very un-intimidating. What I mean by that is that everyone wants something different from BJJ and the instructors do a good job recognizing that and helping you achieve your goals with the right amount of encouragement. For me personally, It is a great way to get a workout and also learn some pretty cool stuff that could actually be applied in a situation should the need ever arise. I think 1-Up is a great place to come whether you want to get into something new or your coming back with some experience and are looking for a place where you can get one-on-one training in a more intimate setting. Open mat is Friday!

1 Up is a great place to train. Unlike traditional martial arts schools it is a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The 1 on 1 attention you will receive from Paul and Jon is unparalleled in the community. The price point is remarkably affordable. They teach kids as well. All things considered, there are no excuses not to be learning jiu jitsu when it is affordable and in your backyard!!!

Just started going here and I'm having a lot of fun so far. Paul is extremely patient and great at breaking down complex moves so that even a novice can understand. Everyone I've met so far has been extremely kind and encouraging. Initially, I was intimidated to try jiu jitsu because I have never done anything like this before. So glad a friend recommended 1-Up Jiu Jitsu.

Hands down the best Jiu Jitsu program around. Friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming. If you're new to Jiu Jitsu, or just getting back into it, 1 Up Jiu Jitsu is the place for you!!! Outstanding youth program, Paul and his team are absolutely amazing with the kids! Wish I could give more than 5 stars!
