Greenville and Charleston are the main centers for BJJ competition in South Carolina. Myrtle Beach, Inman, Hardeeville and Columbia also host regular events.
NEWBREED is the most active organizer, running the Greenville Winter Championship, the South Carolina State Championship and the Columbia Fall Championship. Myrtle Beach hosts the Chewjitsu Open and the NAGA Myrtle Beach Grappling Championship, and FUJI BJJ holds a Spartanburg Summer Championship.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are both widely offered, and around one in five events runs kids divisions. Adult entry fees vary widely, from about $20 to over $200 depending on the event and divisions entered. July, August, November and December are the busiest months.
