This page lists upcoming BJJ tournaments across South Africa, from Gi events to No-Gi and submission grappling competitions. Gauteng hosts most of the calendar, with Alberton, Johannesburg, Sunninghill, Randburg, Pretoria and Benoni all holding regular events. Cape Town is the busiest single city outside Gauteng, and Durban also hosts tournaments, so finding the next jiu jitsu tournament close to you is usually straightforward.
Grappling Industries is the most regular organiser, with Grappling Industries Johannesburg returning several times a year and Grappling Industries Cape Town also on the calendar. Other recurring BJJ and grappling events include the Sunninghill No Gi Open, the Masters Grappling Classic, Submission Kings, Queens and Kids No-Gi in Johannesburg, the ADCC South Africa Open and Heat City: Gi Wars. BJJ Events South Africa, QuanWessels Affiliation and CK Mat Wars are also active.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in roughly equal measure, and around a quarter of events run kids divisions. Absolute divisions are less common, appearing at about one in ten events. Rulesets vary, with submission only and house rules both in use, and round robin brackets appear at some events. Tournaments run year-round, with November the busiest month, followed by October, July, April and September.
