Salem has a steady BJJ calendar for a mid-sized city. The Ground Warrior Submission Challenge is the most frequent event, and the Oregon Open Jiu Jitsu Championship returns regularly.
Sub League holds its Sub League Open in Salem each May, and the Roll A Lot Submission Series has staged several Salem events. Submission-focused formats are a recurring theme on the local calendar, though points-based events are also held.
January is the busiest month, followed by May, September, February and October. Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in equal measure, kids divisions appear at around three in ten events, and roughly a quarter include an absolute division.
