The Frederick area hosts BJJ tournaments from several organizers. FUJI BJJ runs the Maryland State Championship and seasonal Hagerstown championships, Grappling Industries holds Grappling Industries Maryland, and Controlled Combat runs youth and adult jiu jitsu grappling events. The Super Grapple Series has also been held here, with many events in nearby Hagerstown and Boonsboro.
Most events offer Gi and No-Gi divisions, around three in four include kids divisions and nearly half offer absolute divisions. Round-robin brackets and house rules are common. Entry typically costs around $30–$90. August is the busiest month, followed by September and October.
