El Paso has a regular BJJ tournament calendar for West Texas, with a mix of national circuit events and locally run competitions. Some events also take place at nearby Fort Bliss.
The Newbreed El Paso Winter Championship is the most frequent recurring event, and Desert Jiu Jitsu Championships runs the Desert Jiu Jitsu Texas Expo Championship. NAGA holds the NAGA El Paso Grappling Championship, and FUJI BJJ, United Grappling and SUBG also run events here. Local shows include the Blue Belt Throwdown, the Kids Jiu Jitsu Classic, Clash for the Crown and Reign Supreme.
About two thirds of events offer Gi divisions and about two thirds offer No-Gi, and close to half include kids divisions. Around one in five events has an absolute division, and both single and double elimination brackets are used. Entry fees vary widely, typically around $35โ$200. December is the busiest month, followed by September, June and April.
