Boston has a steady BJJ competition calendar, with Grappling Industries Boston returning several times a year as the most frequent event in the city. Most tournaments are held in Boston itself, and some events also run in nearby Hanover.
Other recurring competitions include the NAGA Boston Grappling Championship, the Tap Cancer Out Massachusetts BJJ Open with separate adult and youth events, and the NEWBREED Boston Jiu Jitsu Championship. The PBJJF North American Jiu-Jitsu Championship, the Harvard Jiu Jitsu Invitational, the Fall Combate BJJ Tournament and United Grappling have also held events in Boston.
Gi and No-Gi divisions are offered in similar measure, and more than half of events include an absolute division. Just under half run kids divisions. Round-robin brackets and house rules are common. Entry typically starts around $30, with higher fees for larger events and multi-division entries. November is by far the busiest month, followed by October, July, January and March.
