Division Information – United Grappling

Our goal is to ensure that every athlete has the opportunity to compete in a fair, safe, and well-organized environment. Here are the guidelines we follow:

Reallocation of Athletes with No Opponents in Their Division

If an athlete is alone in their division, they will be moved to the closest appropriate division, following this order:

  • If there is only one athlete in the -55 lbs / 6–7 years old division, they will be moved to the -65 lbs / 6–7 years old division.
  • If that division is also empty, they will be moved to the -55 lbs / 8–9 years old division.
  • If there are still no opponents available, the athlete may be matched against an opponent of the opposite gender, always prioritizing similar age and weight.

Divisions with More Than 7 Athletes – Round Robin Multistage Format

  • Divisions with more than 7 athletes will follow the Round Robin Multistage format, meaning athletes will be split into two groups.
  • Each group will compete internally, and the top athletes will advance.
  • This prevents any competitor from having to fight more than 14 matches in a single day.

Adult White Belts – Double Elimination Bracket

  • We will use the Double Elimination system for Adult White Belt divisions.
  • This means that if an athlete loses their first match, they still have a chance to compete for 3rd place.

Divisions with Only 2 Athletes – Best of 3 Format

  • If there are only 2 athletes in a division, we will use a Best of 3 format.
  • The first athlete to win 2 matches will be declared the champion.
