LSGF organizes age divisions based on the participant's birth year, rather than their exact age on the event date. This means that all children born in the same calendar year are grouped together, regardless of their specific birthday. For example:
Children born in 2019 will compete in the 6-7-year-old bracket, as they will turn 7 during 2026.
Children born in 2021 will compete in the 4-5-year-old bracket, as they will turn 5 during 2026.
This method ensures consistent and fair groupings for all participants. If you have any questions about your child’s bracket or the registration process, please feel free to contact us.

Lone Star Grappling Federation is headed back to Abilene! After an incredible first event in the city, we're excited to return to the Dodge Jones Youth Sports Center at 1042 Loop 322 in Abilene, Texas, for the Abilene Winter Open on November 21st, 2026.
This tournament is built for everyone—from first-time competitors stepping onto the competition mats for the first time to seasoned grapplers ready to test themselves against some of the best competition in the region. Kids, teens, adults, and masters competitors of all belt levels are welcome, with both Gi and No-Gi divisions and a double-elimination format designed to give competitors more opportunities to compete.
At Lone Star Grappling Federation, we believe Jiu Jitsu competition should be about more than medals. Our goal is to create a family-oriented, God-centered tournament experience built around competition, sportsmanship, respect, and community. We want athletes to compete hard, coaches to be proud of how their teams represent themselves, and families to enjoy an atmosphere where everyone feels welcome.
The action begins at 9:00 AM, and throughout the day the mats will be filled with takedowns, sweeps, submissions, hard-fought victories, and lessons that competitors will carry with them long after the tournament is over. Whether you're chasing the top spot on the podium, competing for the first time, coaching your team, or cheering from the sidelines, we want you to be part of it.
Abilene helped us begin this journey, and we're excited to bring Lone Star Grappling Federation back for another great tournament.
