Registration deadline: September 11 at 11:59 PM

Last day to change weight divisions: September 11 at 11:59 PM

Brackets and the event schedule will be released on September 12.

Competitors are responsible for registering in the correct age, belt, and weight division.

REFUND IF YOU HAVE NO COMPETITORS IN YOUR BRACKET AND YOU ARE UNWILLING TO MOVE UP IN WEIGHT OR UP IN AGE DIVISION

WEIGH-INS

Weigh-ins will be available beginning at 9:30 AM.

Competitors must weigh in wearing the uniform they will compete in.

Athletes competing in both Gi and No-Gi only need to make their Gi weight.

Kids divisions will have a 2 lb weight allowance.

RULES & SCORING

The Long Island TCG BJJ Open will follow the IBJJF ruleset for scoring, advantages, penalties, and legal/illegal techniques.

  • Back Control

3 Points

  • Guard Pass

2 Points

  • Takedown
  • Sweep
  • Knee on Belly

For most scoring positions, the athlete must establish and control the position for 3 seconds before points are awarded.

Submissions

A successful submission ends the match immediately.

Legal submissions and techniques will follow IBJJF restrictions based on the competitor's age and belt/rank.

Advantages

Advantages may be awarded for near-completed scoring positions or legitimate submission attempts that place an opponent in danger but do not result in a submission.

Penalties

Penalties may be given for violations including:

  • Stalling or lack of combativeness
  • Fleeing the competition area
  • Illegal techniques
  • Other prohibited actions under IBJJF rules

Repeated penalties may result in points being awarded to the opponent or disqualification.

Determining the Winner

Matches may be won by:

  1. Submission
  2. More points at the end of regulation
  3. More advantages if points are tied
  4. Fewer penalties if points and advantages are tied
  5. Referee decision if the match remains completely tied

KIDS DIVISIONS

Kids divisions will be grouped by age, weight, and belt/experience.

Tournament organizers reserve the right to combine adjacent divisions when necessary to provide athletes with matches.

When combining kids divisions, athlete safety and competitive fairness will be the priority.

Parents/coaches may be contacted before significant age, weight, or experience adjustments are made.

BRACKET FORMAT

Bracket format may vary depending on the number of competitors registered in each division.

Smaller divisions may use a round-robin format to provide athletes with additional matches.

Larger divisions may use an elimination-style bracket.

There will be no third-place matches.

Adults: $5

Kids: Free

Admission will be collected at the venue.
