Fantastic facility with an amazing group of people. Came in from out of town and was welcomed with open arms. The class structure, as well as the instruction, was great for the few classes I attended. I learned a lot from both the instructors as well as other class participants. I would highly recommend joining the community they have built at Refuge

The coaches and staff at Refuge go above and beyond to make all kids and adults comfortable with taking that first step on the mat. The gym is very clean, private changing rooms, amazing recovery room(s), and it’s a real sense of community. If you’re looking for a place to train for yourself or kids, Refuge is the place to go!

I was visiting from Alaska and saw Refuge was nearby so I decided to drop in for a few classes while on vacation. The coaches and employees at the gym are amazing, very nice and welcoming and all of the coaches are super knowledgeable and helpful. The facility itself was also super open and clean with a changing room, several bathrooms and a shower. I would recommend refuge to anyone in the area as well as anyone visiting, it was a great experience training here for the few sessions I made. Thanks Refuge!

This gym has a great , welcoming atmosphere. Large mat space with lots of room to roll. Very cleanly with private changing rooms. The instructors are top notch and the other students are also great. I’d highly recommend people of all levels to train here.

I stopped in to train for a couple days while on a trip visiting from Washington state. Super legit gym with great instruction, great teaching, and hard live rounds. I’ve traveled around to a lot of gyms and this place is amazing! I felt extremely welcome from the entire gym, professors and students alike. Definitely look forward to coming back and getting some more training in. If you’re in question just come in and train! Oss!

Best place train in town! I have been training and competing in BJJ for about eight years. Josh and Kanani provide the highest level of training a wholesome, Christian and family oriented environment. Regardless of whether your goals are to travel and compete at the highest levels, increase your fitness level, learn to safely defend yourself or just spend time in a healthy activity with your spouse and / or children, you cannot go wrong at Refuge BJJ. Once you are here, you are family!

I train at another spot in Phoenix (I live in a different area), but pop by Refuge when I get a chance. They are always very welcoming and offer top notch instruction! When I have someone in the area asking about where they should train I always recommend Refuge!

This gym is farther than our previous gym & cost more, but you get what you pay for. Josh & Kanani run this club like a business & not just a hobby. They are very passionate about what they do & their students. They get to know you and knew my son's name right away. Coach Ryan has been awesome working with my son too. We definitely felt right at home here & everyone was very welcoming to us.

I've been to more Jiu Jitsu schools than I can remember the names of and my daughter is only 9. I just don't see the point in wasting my time and or my child's time at the second best gym. I don't see the point of getting the second best training. It's a drive for us but it's worth the drive. This is the best kids BJJ gym in Phoenix. It's run by people who really care about your child and their development in jiu jitsu. They're serious and kind with the kids. Their skills in teaching and running their business is unmatched. There isn't a BJJ gym that has grown more in Phoenix in the last year than this gym and there's a good reason. There are NO 12-month contracts like some shady gyms do because they know you'll regret joining them. If this wasn't the best gym in Phoenix I wouldn't be here. Come and see what effective compassionate teaching looks like for your child.

If you are looking for a place to train BJJ, whether starting out for the first time or continuing your BJJ, I would highly recommend Refuge BJJ. As a first-time student of BJJ I was immediately integrated with advanced and same level students. The coaches, as well as the students, are professional and extremely helpful. My son is in their Mighty Mites program and my daughter is in their Youth program; both love it there and are always excited when it’s time to train.

Going to class at Refuge is the highlight of my kids' week. Coaches Josh and Kanani work exceptionally well with the younger kids ages 4-6. My daughter, age 8 is in the Youth class and thoroughly enjoys training and learning new skills each class. Both my kids love Refuge so much, the recently convinced my husband to start training too! I can't recommend Refuge BJJ highly enough!!

The best coaches, very clean, the best teammates you can have, it's like having a second family. I've lost 20 lbs since joining while having fun learning self defense and making awesome friends all at once.

My two sons have been training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Coach Josh for 4-5 years. They love going to his classes because he teaches well and makes learning fun, in a safe and supportive environment. He clearly loves teaching and jiu jitsu and competes himself very successfully. My sons enjoy competing too and have won silver and gold medals at national and international tournaments. The adult classes are also popular with students of all ages. Coach Josh Guerra and his wife Miss Kanani are wonderful, caring, and enthusiastic teachers. If you’re interested in learning martial arts for self defense, keeping fit or even for serious competition training, Refuge BJJ is the place to go!
