Violet Crown Jiujitsu is the place you want to be. Professor Rudy has a welcoming down to earth environment . My kiddos train here and within a year. My kiddos competed in Naga, Grappling Industries, Jiujitsu World League. Coach Noah trains kids class and in time have your littles ready to compete if interested. Professor Rexx teaches Adults and kids. There are other great coaches for Adults. My son is now trains with adults. You don’t have to compete and you can train without worrying about injuries. We joined after pandemic and it has build confidence, obedience, cardio and alertness. Teachers at school tell me whatever I’m doing for my Son or Daughter is great. Thank you Professor Rexx!!

I love this place. After moving from Dallas I needed to find a new place to train. I looked everywhere around my area for quite a while and I'm so glad I found Violet Crown Jiu Jitsu. Rudy is amazing and he truly cares about his students. He's always providing tips and feedback on how to improve your form and why it's important! I go to the Muay Thai Padwork classes and they are a lot of fun, more importantly I always feel like I'm learning something new in a safe environment and burning a few calories in the process!

Excellent space and serious classes by true pros! It’s more than a work out, it’s a full body and mind experience. I’m a beginner but felt safe and supported to efficiently be up to speed with the more experienced folks. Good Teachers are not easy to find. But this place has a solid crew! And the space is very clean too! And good music.

I looked around at lots of gyms before deciding on Violet Crown. I’ve been here about 3 months now and love it. I was hesitant to try any sort of martial art because I didn’t want to get injured by someone cranking a submission or hitting me in the head, and I didn’t want a skin infection. When I walked in, I noticed that the mats were clean and dry. Hygiene is a priority for this community and Rudy, the head coach, sets an example by cleaning the mats and gear or staying home if he feels sick. Rudy is a great coach and his students are helpful and welcoming of all skill levels, which I really appreciate as a woman in a sport that is mostly male. Some people are there for competitions and MMA, I’m there for fun and people dial back their intensity accordingly so we can all train and benefit. It has a good mix of beginners and advanced practitioners, both among the men and women. If I don’t feel comfortable with something, the instructors are great with finding modifications. Plus, no one is ever pressured to partner with someone they don’t want to. VC truly is a community. I feel lucky to be a part of it. I get to have fun, get stronger, develop my mind, and learn self defense!

Rudy Rexx is the best!!! He’s well known and respected amongst my professors, so there was no question in where I would train in Austin. Great gym, with a bunch of people ready to go all in during training. What more could you ask for?!

Really great gym. Awesome vibes for improving your jiu jitsu. Everyone is very inviting and all of the instructors are super knowledgeable. Rudy does a great job of helping you no matter where your game is at. Whether you’re looking for a new home gym or just somewhere to pop in for an open mat while you’re in town - this is the spot.

The energy of this place is golden, because of the white belts you train with all the way up to the patient black belts, because of Rudy, because you can feel/see everyone's respect for the art(s) and yourself. If you lean into the classes here, there's a solid chance you'll feel that energy too. I'm a beginner of jiu jitsu, and have been in a few martial arts gyms in my life regularly, and this is by far the least intimidating one. There's a class for any and all levels/types of practice, and the instructors make them fun, challenging, safe, and respectful of your abilities to practice. I never regret dragging my butt to a class.

I just finished 1 year of training at VCJJ and my jiujitsu has improved so much. Coming from a bigger academy it’s been so refreshing getting the individual attention Rudy can offer. That being said I’ve done a couple private lessons with Coach Rudy and it has greatly improved my game.

It would suck to be a gym near VCBJJ, can’t match the energy, can’t match the coaching, can’t match the community.

My son took Gi and NoGi kids classes with Violet Crown for a little over a year. He absolutely enjoyed his time with Coach Rudy and Coach Noah. Not only the coaches, everyone there will welcome and help you get better. We have to take a pause since he is in the tennis team now. With high school work and tennis practice, it was getting a bit tough. If you’re looking for martial arts training for you or for anyone in your family, definitely give them a try. Also, I believe they are running a promotion at the moment!

I tried out several gyms before joining Violet Crown and my experience so far has been outstanding. Rudy and all the instructors do an excellent job at breaking down complex techniques into understandable concepts, that can then be applied to a variety of situations in BJJ. The culture of the gym is very welcoming and open to all skill levels. While learning a new concept, you’re able to get one-on-one instruction and feedback, which enables you to properly drill and build your skillset. It’s hard to find a quality gym that offers both BJJ and Muay Thai, and Violet Crown is able to provide both at very reasonable prices. Rudy and his team at VC are creating something special and I am honored to be a part of their growing community!

I started training at Violet Crown about two months ago and am so happy I joined. I am totally new to jiu jitsu but have been interested for quite some time, and only took the leap after a friend recommended Violet Crown to me back in August. I realize that there are a lot of good BJJ gyms in Austin, but what sets Violet Crown apart from my perspective is the outstanding culture at the gym. In my short time as a member, everyone I've met has been friendly, genuine, and respectful. There is a place for everyone at Violet Crown and I really appreciate the effort Rudy takes to provide great instruction and feedback tailored to our strengths, weaknesses, and skill level. Although I may be a newbie, it was easy to see that the guys and gals at VC train hard, work together, and share knowledge. I also really like the Muay Thai and MMA classes which are offered a few times during the week since I was hoping to train both striking and groundwork when I joined. If you're looking for a great place to get your feet wet, compete, or expand your advanced knowledge, I'd really consider Violet Crown. There's a great culture here for all ages and there are many different ways to sign up that don't require long term contracts or start-up costs. Highly recommend!

Violet Crown is an incredible gym for all levels. I came in as a complete beginner doing free trial classes at different Austin gyms and realized what Rudy and the instructor team has built here was outstanding. You can roll with people of very different experience levels and learn something new from each one, on top of the amazing instruction that the coaches provide during the technique portion of classes. Everybody helps to contribute to the culture that Rudy has created of friendliness, learning, and ego-free intensity that makes it an addicting place to train at. If you're thinking about getting into the sport, looking for a great way to gain self-defense skills, or an experienced BJJ practitioner that's considering new gyms, come try a class!

I have visited a few gyms in the Austin area looking for a home gym, and ultimately I landed here at Violet Crown. I’ve been training here for a few months now, and I have nothing but good things to say. The quality of instruction is excellent, and I feel like anyone is able to ask questions. I’m most impressed with the quality of people that attend this gym. Everyone is very friendly but enjoys training hard. Safety is of the utmost importance here, and I feel like everyone at the gym is looking out for one another. Some other qualities that I like about this gym: - Ample mat space - Lots of parking - There usually is some kind of music on while rolling - Folks from other gyms often visit to roll with us or provide instruction - Occasional parties or opportunities to socialize with other members - Opportunities to pursue other disciplines (Judo, wrestling, MMA, Muay Thai) I definitely recommend at least visiting for a class or an open mat.

Started training here in October for the first time and I love it! Rudy is a great teacher. Amazing atmosphere and people, look forward to going often. Update: I've been training here for over 2 years now and have loved every minute. Great instruction, great community, no egos. I started with 0 martial arts experience and now feel very confident on the mats. Highly recommend this place for both newbies and experienced practitioners. There are a lot of great spots to train at in Austin, VC BJJ is at the top of that list and merits consideration.

Everyone I've trained with was understanding, kind and helpful. There was no "ego rolling". Everyone was there to learn, help you learn, and get better. Rudy is very cool. He welcomes questions and fosters a good community. Unfortunately, I had to stop since other parts of my life started to take up more of my time, but I'd definitely come back.

I've been training here since Jan. 2022, and can say it's a warm, welcoming, fun and really great place to learn jiu jitsu. I'd been going to another gym (VOW, also great) before but needed morning classes to fit in better with my work schedule. I called Rudy and asked about the place. He had me come in and check it out before I signed up for anything which I appreciated. Rudy is a great and patient teacher, as are the rest of the instructors, and the regulars are so friendly and helpful when you're learning (I came in as a white belt). My jiu jitsu has definitely improved from coming here regularly, but I've also gained a whole little community of BJJ folks who are down to hit the mats early in the morning before work. Don't get me wrong, the folks here are friendly but we've also got some guys that will really step up the tempo if you're looking to roll hard. The higher belts were super helpful when I told them I was going to compete. We've got a good number of folks who compete, but even those dudes are super nice and will help improve your jiu jitsu. I love open mats because I get to meet a whole other side of the gym that mostly comes to night classes, so it's always interesting rolling with a different crew. The other nice thing we've got going here is that Rudy has developed a welcoming place for women to come and learn BJJ, as well. Sometimes in morning classes there are more women than men, which is cool to see. And if you've got kids, Rudy's also started teen classes. I recommend this place highly if you want to learn good jiu jitsu and have good vibes while you do it.

Come to Violent Crown if you want a fun, welcoming environment to train bjj. This place is chill af- and I have been shopping around Austin for a while looking for that vibe. I'm a woman and I often feel like an outsider at many bjj gyms despite putting in some time on the mats. It can be intimidating and difficult to get rolls, like getting picked last for dogeball. Showing up at VC day one I was welcomed, encouraged, and invested in. There's no elite cool kids club here or macho energy. The gym is also more diverse than others I have been to. Rudy is an excellent teacher and really breaks it down and teaches to whatever level you're at. It's beginner friendly, but don't get it twisted- people are down to roll hard and there are some fierce competitors that train here. I am getting better here every day because I am enjoying my training and having fun doing it. It's definitely small, so don't be surprised when you show up, but it packs a big punch in terms of quality training!

First, let me start off by saying how clean and sanitizing is top priority here and it shows. I started off by taking private lessons at first and then dipped into gi classes which I highly recommend! Rudy is the best and so patient. Everyone else is also super sweet and helpful with anything you have questions about or struggling with. Don’t hesitate to start!

Super knowledgeable, Rudy’s been making connections and drills for me that relate back to breaking and how the body mechanics for one practice feeds right into another. Keeps the studio, surfaces and mats super clean. I’ve seen him spray down and wipe down things as I enter and after session was done. High recommendations.

I thought it was a really welcoming environment with great and positive people, but was a little thrown on what they said was a fundamentals course. Long story short, I got injured my second time going here. Complete newbie at jiu-jitsu btw. Was offered to roll with someone there and ended up snapping a muscle. Got told after the fact that it's always good to listen to your body and especially submit sooner than later, but it would've been nice to hear that beforehand....
