There aren’t enough positive things to say about Ares BJJ Goodyear. The staff, coaches, class times, routines and expectations have been phenomenal. All you have to do is walk through the door. You’ll see caliber and professionalism through and through.
Area BJJ gym is a good place for my kids . train and learn discipline And how to defend themselves against people trying to hurt them, which has happened before. They are good at communicating directions in jujutsu what you have to do in class . It a good place to train and there friendly they let you know what move there working on every week .also and I just started Bjj for my health . Over all is a good place to for kids and Adults to train.
I rate this place, OUTANDING!!! I have two boys of ages 13 and 8, and they have been training here for 1 year. I could not have picked a better sport for them to develop self confidence, self esteem, and self defense. And, I could not have picked a better place to get BJJ training than Ares BJJ. Professor Q, Professor Kevin, and Coach Nathalia provide World Championship training with the consideration of the developmental stages of each child. Coaches
Ikar, Matheus, and Ethan are excellent too. Yes, there is some crying. The coaches are just tough enough at the right times while providing a caring approach to teach the harder lessons. They provide training 5 days a week, and we try to attend everyday in which the coaches highly encourage. Check this place out!!!
Absolutely love training at the Ares Goodyear location when we are in town! Professor Q and his team are top notch world class instructors. His students are technical, the facility is clean, and the environment is overall welcoming. You literally cannot get better than this!
A fantastic place to train and grow with world class instructors! There are just not enough good things to say about Ares BJJ Goodyear, professional, clean and an amazing environment. Highly recommend!
Very new to the world of BJJ and the instructors have been absolutely amazing! Going above and beyond to give me assistance with any technique I need help understanding. All of the instructors have many years of knowledge and are very willing to share it.
Great People, Great Professors, and super accommodating especially for old noobies like myself! Highly recommend! If you're on the fence about starting your BJJ journey (regardless of age), this is the place to be!
If you live in Phoenix this is the place to train! The talent in this gym is top notch, the instructors are world class, and everyone is super nice and welcoming. I can't recommend this place enough.
Positive Environment:
The atmosphere at Ares BJJ Goodyear is incredibly welcoming and supportive. From the moment you step on the mats, you're treated like family. The more experienced students are always willing to help beginners, and there's a strong sense of camaraderie that makes every training session enjoyable.
Ares Goodyear is an amazing Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu academy. Lots of mat space, an awesome team of instructors, and most importantly the most friendly people. It is a family friendly environment.
Great place to learn the art of jiu-jitsu.
Highly recommend! Thank you coach Matheus for going above and beyond with instruction of our son. Since day one all staff and instructors have made our family feel welcomed.
I highly recommend Ares Goodyear BJJ! We brought our son here to try out a class, and the moment he walked in he was so excited about it, he told me after class that this was his future. He wanted to be a black belt, and own his own academy and teach others jui jitsu. Professor Queixinho is very knowledgeable and welcoming. All the professors and coaches give a lot of detail to their teaching in a way that gets you excited to train and even compete. It didn't take long til everyone in our family decided to try jui jitsui too. It's been over 3 1/2 years now and we truly love this place.
My oldest son and I have been training at Ares Goodyear since January 2023, and we are so grateful to have such a high quality academy to learn and train at. The culture here is phenomenal. Professor Queixinho and all of the coaches are outstanding in their knowledge, ability to teach, and the way they engage with all students, regardless of skill level. The environment is also very safe for both adults and kids, and while there is risk with any combat sport, all coaches focus on ensuring students stay safe, professional, and respectful while on the mats. If you are thinking of starting BJJ or looking for a new place to continue your training, I highly recommend Ares BJJ Goodyear.
Excellent Jiu-jitsu academy in the West Valley, the best I could say. Their coaches are professional and recognized in the martial arts, their staff are really friendly. My son enjoys it very much, he always says that he loves jiu-jitsu, he is only 6 years old and he is very dedicated to his sport. We are happy to be part of Ares Bjj Goodyear.
I am so grateful for every staff member! We’re always greeted by Traci or Priscilla! And I will forever be grateful to the coaches for their tireless dedication of teaching my son the importance of training! Your commitment to making these young girls and boys overcome some of their fears, has made a profound impact on my son and he has gained a lot more confidence since being here. Thank you!
World class facility, instructors, and teammates. Professor Quexinho and his team go above and beyond for the students. Whether you’re a competitor or hobbyist, Ares is a great place to train.
Been training here for 3 years now and I am grateful for all the coaches passion and energy they bring to each class. Amazing environment for people who just want to learn Jiu Jitsu and Competitors.
Words cannot express the amount of gratitude I have for this school. You feel welcomed every time you walk through the door. Everybody who trains here has a desire to learn from the experienced and teach those who are new with patience and kindness. It’s more than a school. It’s a family. And I’m blessed to be a part of it.
Cuando estoy de visita en Goodyear, yo llevó a mi nieto a sus clases, me encanta el entusiasmo de el de ir a sus clases, me encantas el lugar Siempre Muy limpió y muy organizado, los maestros increíbles
Stop searching folks if your trying to find a spot for your kids this is the place!! I can only speak for my 6 year old. The coaches are legit. They have all levels of skill at that age and coaches identify that quickly and match them up right. This is super important for the kids development. They give a free session so you can see if you and your child like it. But if your like me the above statement is key. I don’t do many review cause I like to do my own research just know I did the leg work for you.
If you want to train BJJ or have ever wanted to try a martial art, look no further. Almost immediately the gym staff, owners, and training partners feel like family. Professor Q is second to none, every coach is fantastic to train with/learn from. With their help you will get more out of yourself than you ever thought possible. Do yourself a favor, sign up for your free class. You won't regret it! see you on the mats.
The instructors are fantastic with the kids! We have never been able to get my son to enjoy any sport/exercise outside of video games but my child truly looks forward to go to class. It is really heart warming the way they constantly encourage him to keep trying. It's a very positive environment with people who have positive attitudes.
Dynamic rolling, detailed BJJ, warm welcoming group. Dropped in to keep rolling while visiting AZ. Many thanks for taking me in and advancing my BJJ. Cheers!
I have been practicing at the academy for over a year, but had to take some time off due to the virus (I will be nice). I went in after about two months off and it felt like I didn't miss a beat. You will be worked, bit if you stick with it you will pick up a good skill and get some exercise in to boot. Highly recommended.
Life changing experience. I am about 8 months into training at Phoenix BJJ. During this time the gym has been lucky enough to have Professor Osvaldo Queixinho become the lead instructor at the gym. The atmosphere, amount of classes, and the family that is forged here is incredible. If you are even contemplating starting a martial art, please swing in and catch the vibe, you'll be family in no time!
So happy I started training at Phoenix Jiu Jitsu! Very beginner friendly and welcoming place and with a very accommodating class schedule. Professor Quiexinho and all of the coaches are very patient and knowledgeable. I look forward to every one of my classes there.
Been training as a hobbyists for some time. I am impressed with the new instructor. He is active and passionate about Jiu-Jitsu. The overall life in the building has good vibe. You definitely get out what you put in
Phx BJJ is my mat space! I couldn't roll in a predominately male gym if I didn't feel comfortable and respect from my training partners. All our coaches have their own flavor and strengths they bring to class with Professor Queixinho setting the pace. The renovations have been great improvements to the gym. Always look forward to training!
Professor Quiexinho came to our school for a seminar and showed some phenomenal techniques. On top of that he rolled with everyone who asked him. Amazing person and a great instructor!!
Excellent BJJ Academy. Professor Osvaldo Queixinho is one of the best BJJ practitioners on the Planet. Not only is he an excellent instructor, he is also a super nice guy. Highly recommend A+
My son and I have been training at PHX BJJ / MMA for a couple years now. I have seen a big differents in my son’s attitude, confindence, & disicpline. We love the staff & people that attend the gym. It’s our second home. I recommend anyone to try this place. You will be happy you did.
Coaches and team mates are awesome. The coaches are a wealth of knowledge. If your looking for coaches for your little ones I have never seen a better group of coaches in any sport than these people here. Everyday is another learning experience and that motivates me to come back everyday
Very good School. The staff and coaches are very friendly, welcoming and helpful. My son is 6 and the coaches work very well with the kids. I highly recommend and support this school.
Great family environment and Great instructors. Everyone is willing to help one another and Kevin Scott has the natural ability to make sure every student understands what he is teaching. Great gym and awesome environment is you want to train jiu jitsu or my thai. Don't wait to check it out... come on in!
I checked out a lot of gyms before I chose to train here it's not close to my home at least a thirty minute drive to train , I chose this place because the level of integrity and professionalism I received from the top down. Both Kevin and Warren the owners are extremely involved in both your training and you as a person never to busy to talk and never not approachable, the instructors are top notch and are never to busy or caught up to help me or anyone else we train with to become better practitioners of the art all of the coaches are genuinely good people on and off the mats. Not to mention they gave me a week free to fall in love with the sport and once I chose to train with them the pricing was extremely reasonable. Unless I was forced to move out of state for work I'd never choose to train at another gym. Thanks to all of you. !
Awesome place for you to train BJJ...it doesn't matter what level you are, you will always feel you can learn something new everyday from different coach there...each of them have their own style and they love to share their knowledge to everyone.
I don’t know anything about the training or the people. I am sure they are great but I never made it past the front desk. I’m a college student down from flagstaff just wanted to train a couple days until Christmas and try and stay in shape, maybe get some rolls in. Heads up for anyone else in the same situation. $45 for a class pass, $75 for a day pass. YIKES.
My son was enjoying this class. One of my son recently passed away. So my son had to miss a month. When I tried to ask since he did not attend for the month will he have to pay. Lady was so inconsiderate, she said you need to give a 60 day notice. Really? So I knew when my son was going to pass away.
Its unfortunate that I am writing this but hopefully this review will not only help potential customers but the Academy as a whole. The Mini Monsters program was not design or developed well. Instead of 4 classes a week their should be two 2 day classes that way there is not a big cluster of small children running around not really being taught the value and heritage of any mixed martial arts. During that program there should be short exercises to make the 30 min sessions that way the children's attention is not lost. Another suggestion would not to use a financial company who is rude in the customer service business. Last thing although it is out of your hands are the people there are rude. Someone brushed by my daughter knocked her over and kept going like nothing happened and beware of your seats because people will steal them in a heart beat and not care.
Disappointed
While I do not participate in BJJ myself, both my husband and daughter do. I am disappointed with Ares Brazilian Jiu Jitsu Goodyear:
1. There is little encouragement from the coaches for the athletes to participate in competitions. My daughter is very competitive and would like to compete in every tournament she is able to, so my husband signs her up as they come available. While at a practice, we asked about whether or not there would be a coach at the upcoming tournament, he was told that we would need to check with Professor Queixinho. Several days after my husband told them she was signed up for two future tournaments, Ares sent out an email to everyone stating that if your child is going to participate in a tournament they need to get permission from Professor Queixinho. While I understand you may want to give “permission” to ensure the athlete is trained appropriately and will not get hurt, you don’t do ANYTHING as far preparation and competition classes to prepare for the tournament anyway. I am sorry, I am not going to ask permission for my daughter to compete, if she has the courage, drive and motivation to do so, we are going to allow her to do it and YOU as her coaches should make sure she is prepared! Since you do NOTHING for preparation unless we pay for private lessons, you should not be dictating whether a student can participate or not. Most, if not all, other BJJ gyms would be proud and honored to have our daughter wear their gi and represent them at a tournament. Unless you (Ares) are paying the admission fees or actually helping to prepare for a tournament, you have no right to require we ask your PERMISSION.
2.When Ares has athletes who ARE going to compete, they do not offer any additional training or practices for them. My husband asked if they had a competition class like many other BJJ gyms do and was told if he wanted extra training to prepare for the tournament, he would need to sign her up for private lessons. Private lessons sound great but is the coach going to bring in other athletes of roughly the same weight and belt levels for her to roll with? If you were training them properly in class you should not be charging extra for private lessons to make sure they are prepared. This was funny, they sent out a communication stating you could have a 1 hour private training session for $150 but you need to get 3 other people to participate. That is $600/hour – certainly does not sound like a deal!!
3. When they do have an athlete who is going to compete, they say nothing to any of the other kids in the class…nothing to say “Hey, so and so has a tournament this weekend, lets wish him/her some good luck!” They say nothing to the athlete to encourage them or get them pumped up, its class as usual. Wouldn’t you want to make it known to your other students that someone is competing? Many kids in BJJ are very competitive, simply mentioning that someone is going to compete could drive others to want to do it as well.
4. Finally, after the tournament is over they make no mention of the individuals who competed and represented THEIR gym. Nothing to say thank you, nothing to encourage the athlete or even drive others to WANT to compete. You SHOULD be saying thank you because you certainly are not paying the admission fees for these athletes to help get your name out there.
5. In closing, I would like to suggest you do more as far as recognition and encouragement to your students. “Hey great job so and so!” “Hey X, great job on that move” “Hey Z, I can see you are really improving!” “Hey Y, your efforts have really been paying off” Initially when we came back to your gym, I was surprised to not see any of the kids who were there before but after spending a few months there I realized why…while the staff is kind and friendly, it is a very lackluster environment. The biggest smiles I see are from Coach Ethan and Professor Queixinho himself. I wish Q was there more frequently as the vibe he gives off is exactly the type of role model these kids deserve.
My kids and Family were very Happy here but there are so Many changes now . They have a 12 year old as a coach for kids! I would not spend my money here !
Went wanting to enroll my son and myself on 8/23/17 at 3:45pm. There was no one at the counter which is fine, but the instructor didn't acknowledge me and left me standing and reading literature for 15 mins before I just walked out. I see good reviews so don't understand. This review is only on 1st service at the door. So no comment on instructors or quality of training.
