Stopped in while visiting family. This is a family oriented gym with a very high level of jiu jitsu for adults and kids. I highly recommend this place to anyone interested in martial arts or jiu jitsu.
Checkmat Clearwater is a fantastic place, and having Kauan share his knowledge is a big deal for the entire area. His instruction is spot on. I have been in his classes several times, and he brings incredible detail. Rolling with Kauan is a privilege. There is so much to learn from him. Beyond all of that, he is an amazingly kind human being and a great family man. If you have not been, go meet him and start training, get better, and learn!!
Kauan and his family are very welcoming and have created a great training environment for beginner to advance levels. Came here with a couple years of experience but the techniques I’ve learned have elevated my game and solidified my basics. Would recommend if you’re looking for a place to roll in the area.
I've had an amazing experience at Checkmat Clearwater. Kauan and Siouxsie are both very knowledgeable and supportive, and they created a very welcoming environment for both beginners and experts. The gym is new and well-maintained and the community here is awesome and supportive. I highly recommend checkmat Clearwater to anyone wanting to learn Jiu-Jitsu or improve their skills!
Professor Kauan brings his expertise and energy into teaching BJJ. Amazing environment with even better instructional. Great warm ups and technique training. You'll leave sore with a smile.

I would recommend Checkmat Clearwater to anyone. Great facility and the atmosphere is perfect for any level. Coach Kauan and Siouxsie are both extremely knowledgable and patient with their students. This is the best place for people looking to learn something new or compete. Family friendly too! 5 stars!
Kauan and Souixsie are friendly and knowledgeable. They make jiu jitsu approachable for people new to the sport, and are great at helping people progress in the sport.
I began my jiujitsu journey here when they just opened and I have enjoyed every second of it. The atmosphere is very welcoming and both Professor Kauan and Siouxsie have been great mentors and friends!
Checkmat Clearwater has not disappointed with the quality and service they provide inn and out the mats. Perfect environment to truly learn what Jiu Jitsu is all about and the amazing experience you have with every student.
Definitely recommend to anyone starting, has started and wish to come back into the sport!
This is where you want to be. Whether you're green and never trained a day in your life or a brown belt looking for a new home. Professor Kauan and his wife, Siouxsie are excellent instructors! They move at a great pace and really drive the discipline of repetition. I would also like to add they’re big on family. The academy has plenty of days to keep the morale of Checkmat high, such as seminars, family days & potlucks. The entire experience of jiujitsu is under this roof!
Could not possibly speak highly enough about Coach Kauan!! He is exactly everything you want in a teacher. Extremely knowledgeable but also knows how to slow it down and teach it. Stern but fair. Kind but pushes you to be your best. From elite competition level athletes to beginners to kids, he is without a doubt, the best the sport has to offer!!
Kauan is such a detailed instructor it makes following any class he teaches easy for beginners, and his technique is a great addition for advanced practitioners.
Siouxsie is such an experienced and patient kid’s instructor. She is a great role model for everyone on and off the mats!
Overall this is a great environment for the whole family. Come create a family of killers on the mats here! Just make sure you’re consistent— because as professor says “consistency is key!”
I HIGHLY recommend Checkmat Clearwater for all levels kids to adults. Professor Kauan and Professor Siouxsie are top notch instructors who make you feel welcomed the moment you walk through the doors.
