Don’t let the name fool you. This is not Cobra Kai. I had the unexpected pleasure to visit this authentic Brazilian jiu-jitsu academy recently and had a pleasant surprise. They had an open mat the was welcoming and a challenging. What was most impressive was to see how top level grapplers worked with those with less experience with patience and professionalism. Overall, I would encourage anybody who’s looking to get into Brazilian Jiujitsu in the Plano area to check this out. You will get top level education, with a culture that is very welcoming and professional.
Hello everyone
Cobra jujitsu is one of the gyms that have the authenticity of the sport and the qualities that other gyms don’t. It has been god and destiny that put me in this wonderful place. The instructors are beyond professionals and the people that attend are welcoming and friendly. My time in this gym has been very knowledgeable and fulfilling to the sport. This gym is great to come in and learn the art of jujitsu, the discipline you learn, the experience of others and a great way to keep your health in track. I invite anybody different ages, genders, sizes and endangered humans. Cobra Bjj is the way!!!!!!! OSS!!!!
I am writing to express my sincere appreciation for the outstanding training experience I have had at Cobra BJJ since I joined in January 2023.
From the moment I stepped into the gym, I was welcomed with open arms into a community that thrives on passion and dedication. The sense of belonging and the warm atmosphere created by both fellow practitioners and coaches has been nothing short of remarkable.
The learning opportunities provided by the instructors at Cobra BJJ have been invaluable. Their expertise, attention to detail, and genuine care for each student's progress have elevated my understanding and proficiency in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu to levels I never imagined possible. Their dedication to our growth extends beyond the mat, creating an environment that nurtures both physical and personal development.
What sets Cobra BJJ apart is the way in which everyone involved truly becomes a family. It's heartwarming to be part of a community that shares a common passion and supports one another in our journeys.
I wholeheartedly recommend Cobra BJJ to anyone seeking not only top-notch Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu training, but also a welcoming and tight-knit community. It's a place where learning, growth, and genuine connections flourish.
Thank you, Cobra BJJ, for providing such an exceptional environment for growth and self-improvement. I am grateful for the transformative experience I have had and will continue to have with you.
been training here for around a year now. Instructors are very knowledgeable and qualified and they give attention to every individual equally. Good amount of equipment and mats are cleaned after every session. Would Highly recommend trying out this place!
I've been training here for over 7 years and started completely out of shape and with no martial arts or grappling background. This is a great place to foster anyone coming off the couch or those coming from other gyms.
The coaches are all accomplished and great at teaching to whatever level you're at. The culture in the gym fosters growth and safety. This is especially true of the kids classes and camps.
I'd recommend everyone trying BJJ, but can't say enough good things about Cobra and the people teaching and training here!
My daughter (9) and I (40) have trained here for almost 2 years and have nothing but good things to say. The atmosphere is welcoming, friendly and understanding. The gym has a high level of skill (multiple world champs) while also accommodating to hobbyists like me. If you are looking for quality training with an awesome culture, this is it.
Cobra BJJ is a family run business that will immediately make you feel part of the team. Professor Eddie Ricardo has years of experience and knowledge that’s hard to duplicate. The gym is full of humble upper belts, who are willing to roll with anyone and share their knowledge. It’s a safe and challenging place to train that I highly recommend for all skill levels.
This gym deserves all the stars that exist. We recently moved to Plano and we found a home at Cobra BJJ. It’s a beautiful community and we are so grateful we found it. The coaches are extremely knowledgeable probably the best out there and the people that come to the gym become like family. If you are looking for a place to learn martial arts and to have a supportive community, look no more: Cobra BJJ is the place. I love all the coaches!!!
I first started training at Cobra BJJ in 2013 and my life was forever changed for the good. I trained for a few years until I found myself dealing with life on life’s terms. After my hiatus from jiu jitsu, I returned to Cobra and was welcomed with open arms. I couldn’t imagine my life without the love and support I have received from Eddie and my teammates on and off the mats. Cobra BJJ is more than just a martial arts gym, it is a Family. Oss!
I've been training there for 5 months now. I previously trained BJJ in NYC from 07-09. The instructors at this gym are so much better at teaching fundamentals of technique for both self defense and competition than I experienced in my last BJJ gym. The atmosphere is excellent. Lots of positivite, encouraging energy. It feels like a family. Kids classes seem great as well.
This is the best jiujitsu gym I have ever found! I have trained here for about 6 years and it has completely changed my life. The people here have become some of my closest friends and the training I have received is absolutely top notch. I have become such a stronger, more confident, happier and overall better person from my experiences here. I am forever grateful for this gym!!!
By far one of the best jiu jitsu schools in Texas! My son and I have been training here for a few months and love it. Cameron Adair is the best kids coach I have ever seen, he keeps jiu jitsu fun and my son has learned a lot in the short time we’ve been training. The friendly atmosphere will keep us at Cobra BJJ for life.
I love how family oriented the atmosphere is. The instructors are well trained and take the time to help you really understand the movements. Classes are fun and upbeat, its a great workout, and the other members treat you like family right off the bat. Five stars across the board.
My 8 yo just started BJJ at Cobra BJJ. The instructors work well with the kids. This seems to be a tight knit community. Very positive and family oriented gym. I would highly recommend.
I've been training here for 4 years, since I've started BJJ. The leadership is top notch, Eddie, Eder, Monique, Sebastian have cultivated a great environment. Its a real family atmosphere, everyone looks out for each other. I can't imagine training anywhere else. When I visit other gyms, I realize how much of the culture of Cobra is truly a unique thing. I'm a relatively older student, starting at 38 and I would highly recommend this school! You won't find a friendlier environment to start the journey! Ossss!
I love this place! I joined in August and have been looking forward to every practice. They make you feel like you're part of the family. Great instructors and training partners, amazing opportunity to improve your health and well-being. I can't wait to get on the mat and roll.
After a sad departure from an amazing academy due to a job relocation, I found myself in search of a new Jiujitsu home in a new state. I was ready and wanted training that matched the elite level of instruction I was already recieving. I also wanted an academy with females that actually train.
Upon trying out numerous academies in the DFW metroplex I felt disappointed and broken hearted and was very close to putting BJJ to the side for a while.
After a friend referral, I decided to give it another chance.
Upon walking into Cobra BJJ I was greeted by THE world champion female blackbelt Monique Ricardo. As it got closer to class time more ladies came in, they put on their gi's, and actually trained with me. (including Monique) Each one of these ladies were super tough and used amazing technique.
The class itself was structured /professional and I actually learned something applicable to making my game better. Leaving the class that night left me feeling like you're supposed to feel after a tough BJJ class and I have never looked back. Each time I show up I get better. On and off the mat.
From my experience this is the best school in the metroplex. I would tell you to save yourself some time and disappointment and just come here first. Especially if you are a female in search of an academy with other females who train hard and you take your training serious. 👌
I've been around, seen the good, bad and ugly. No Contracts Here! Why would a gym want you to sign a contract or pay in advance? Because they want you to pay for something you won't want to pay for in the future of course. No contracts here, no reason not to try it. Good people and good training.
Cobra Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the best things that's ever happened to me. The gym is extremely diverse with people of all walks of life simply looking to become better versions of themselves. The kids class is thriving, and I love seeing the happiness and confidence those children gain. As soon as you walk through the door, everyone is looking to empower you. I would recommend that anyone and everyone try out Cobra BJJ.
Cobra is my second family and I would go to battle with anyone at the gym!
I live north of Highland Village and continue to train in Plano two to four times a week. I make this long trip because everyone feels like family, tough on you when training, but compassionate and fun to be around when we aren't.
The classes are a perfect blend of a workout, techniques and sparring. I love that Eddie teaches strategy and concepts along with the techniques...all in his comedic and motivational style.
The people that train there are all from all walks of life and diversity. You will typically see two to four black belts, couple of browns, many purple belts, countless blue and white belts. My point is that there are all kinds to training partners that will elevate your game/skill.
BJJ has made me a better person for my family. It helps me relieve stress, helps me focus and set goals and pursue them, and I get to stay in shape by playing a game that stretches my mind in a strategic way (physical chess, my game is more like checkers, but I'm getting there).
Cobra BJJ is all a part of that.
If you are thinking of trying jiu jitsu do it I have been going for a year and I am hooked training here is not only fun and great exercise but is the best method for self improvement I have found 10 years - since starting I often find myself dealing with challenges (both work and personal) in the same way I approach jiu jitsu stay calm, understand improvement is a gradual process and that you can accomplish almost anything if you want to bad enough and refuse to quit - the owners are extremely impressive people after spending 8 hours a week around them for over a year I have never seen either of them deal with a student in a negative way or become frustrated they take pride in their work and genuinely enjoy seeing you improve - also I am 41 and overweight (less overweight than when I started) don't think you have to be in great shape to start and it is not the atmosphere I thought it would be it is open to everyone and the main thing I have taken away from it is how rewarding it is to help others and the benefits of a past time that demands 100% focus for an 1.5 hours in the afternoon you can't worry about money or life's problems when people are trying to choke you
Cobra BJJ is the best place I have ever been to train jiu-jitsu by far. Eddie Ricardo is the best coach I have ever had in any sport. All of the guys and girls that train here are very respectful and helpful to each other. No matter what level you are at there are no ego's here, everybody works together to help each other understand the techniques and get better. Whether you are a beginner or advanced, child or adult, Cobra BJJ is a great place to train and will improve every aspect of your life mentally and physically.
Eddie Ricardo is the best teacher simply put. When I make a trip down to Texas and attend classes I learn the so many things that I can easily implement into my own martial arts game. Best teacher and best school that you will be able to find anywhere.
Easily the best place to train in the Dallas area.
Eddie Ricardo is a true master of the art, and a fantastic teacher to top it off. One huge thing that differentiates Cobra BJJ from the other gyms in the area, is that Eddie not only teaches, but backs up his techniques on the mats as a competitor.
The entire Cobra BJJ team is very welcoming to new and prospective members. We all realize the challenges that we faced when first starting Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and everyone keeps that in mind with new members. Everyone here is very welcoming, friendly, and helpful. We train hard consistently, but we aren't out to hurt one another.
Weather you're interested in BJJ to compete (We have a great competition team.. We have won the NAGA grappling tournament as an overall team 2 years in a row and we consistently place at every tournament we compete at.), self defense, or for physical fitness - you will no doubt get the best training in the area at Cobra BJJ.
Number one game in town. Cobra goes hard. Every time I go up to Dallas when I'm on break from school, I make sure to visit Cobra to get some mat time in. Eddie, the instructor, is a true master of BJJ, and it shows in his team, because they're all very talented. If you're looking for a solid BJJ school in the area, Cobra's your best bet.
In short, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu at its best!
Eddie Ricardo has built himself a reputation of honoring the traditional teachings of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. The classes consist of warm-ups, technique drilling and live rolling. Everyone at the gym trains hard, but is always willing to help others out and won't headhunt.
Having done this now for over 2 years, I can say that training BJJ at Cobra has been the best cardio workout I have ever had. In the first year alone I dropped 50 pounds by training hard at this academy.
Give it a try. You won't be disappointed.
I have been searching for a place for my 8 year old daughter. She has been getting bullied at school and she asked me to put her in karate. It broke my heart and I cannot believe that I did not see this coming. I am just glad that she came to me and explained what was going on. I started looking for places online and wanted something not to rough for a girl (She is still my baby). I took her to Cobra BJJ and spoke with Eddie and Sebastian. I was amazed when I saw all the different men, women, and children training. They showed us around and assured me that we will get her the training she needs and get her in shape at the same time. It has been 4 months and my daughter has never looked happier. She looks great and has so much more discipline and confidence than I thought was possible for a now 9 year old girl. Thanks so much guys for everything you have done for my family!
I've been training at Cobra for about 7 months now. The instructors are friendly and know how to deal with people on an individual basis, and the camaraderie between everyone who trains here is unbelievable.
