Great gym, facilities, community, and instructors. Professor Ulpiano's knowledge is incredible, and you really get an extra layer of detail hard to find anywhere else. I'm also enjoying training with Coach Henrique who has great technique and energy. Great people here, training partners included. River Oaks has a sister gym to West Chase, which is down the street. Their schedules are slightly different, allowing for flexibility with training times/classes. Update April 2024: Yeah, still awesome. Learning a lot of new things and improving on the ones I know

Attending Gracie Barra River Oaks has been fantastic for me and my two young daughters. The instructors are both highly skilled and very patient, making the learning experience enjoyable for both adults and children. What sets this academy apart is its welcoming and supportive community. My daughters have developed self-defense skills while gaining confidence, discipline, and respect. Overall, Grace Barra River Oaks provides an exceptional experience for the whole family.

My kids have been practiced Jiu Jitsu at the Gracie Barra River Oaks for over a year now. The program has been well structured and the coach student ratio is also great. So the kids always learn and practice in a professional and safe environment. The kids have enjoyed it a lot and made so many friends. They cheer for each other and celebrate other’s progress and milestones like their own.

Ever since I first watched the UFC I, I've dreamt of practicing BJJ. Gracie Barra River Oaks surpassed all my expectations. With instructors who are among the world champions, the legacy of Mitsuyo Maeda, Helio Gracie, Carlos Gracie Sr, and Carlos Gracie Jr shines brightly here. The experience of Professor Ulpiano Malaquias represents a competitive edge of world-class caliber, coupled with the wonderful culture of respect and excellent level of the students here. This is hands down the best place in the world to practice BJJ #GOATcoaching

Excellent Gym. Proffesor Ulpiano runs a tight ship. The gym is kept to impeccable standards of cleanliness and tidyness. From the locker room to the mat, BJJ River Oaks is clean as a whistle. Coach Seth and Prof Bruno each have differing styles and backgrounds which gives the students a broad perspective to learn. The above instructors take a deep interest in their students learning while maintaining a safe training environment. The Proffesors and Coaches do a good job of separating sport BJJ from Self Defense BJJ. Most of the classes are geared toward sport BJJ with self defense sprinkled in. The coaches are very clear in what they are teaching and the purpose they are teaching a particular technique. I am a hobbiest BJJ guy. I do it for excercise, fun, and to learn a martial art. The attitude here is not aggresive in the least. Everyone gets along, checks their egos at the door, has fun, and learns the BJJ art a little everyday. highly recommend.

Amazing place to learn and train BJJ! Clean, spacious facility with free valet parking and lots of classes (fundamental, advanced, Women’s, Kids, etc). And of course the instruction by Professor Ulpiano and the instructors is nothing short of world-class. Lots of individual attention given to all students, whether serious competitor or hobbyist. If you are looking for a clean and friendly place to train with great instruction, look no further.

World class gym with world class instructors. Professor Ulpiano and his team of instructors bring world championship pedigree to GB River Oaks. This is professor Ulpiano's 2nd location in Houston. If you want to know how good his team is, check out Gracie Barra Westchase which is 15 minutes away from this location and has been operating for over 13 years now. If you are looking to become a world class champion someday, or just looking to learn the basics, this is the place to be.

The gym is super clean, trendy and great location! Went for Women’s Jiu Jitsu class with Professor Arezou. She’s an amazing instructor. Super helpful and patient. All the students were also kind and welcoming. Brought my daughter back for kids class in the evening as well. She really loved it. Professor Bruno and Coach Seth are great with the kids. Glad to see some seasoned instructors in the mat! We look forward to coming back and highly recommend this gym to everyone if all ages.

I recently had the opportunity to attend a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu women's class at a newly opened Gracie Barra location, and I must say, it was an incredible experience. From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with a warm welcome from the instructor and other members of the class. The class itself was taught by an two black belt female professors who was not only knowledgeable but also extremely supportive and encouraging throughout the session. The techniques taught were tailored specifically for women, which was a refreshing change from other classes I have attended in the past. What impressed me most about this class was the focus on creating a positive and inclusive environment. The instructor made a point to emphasize the importance of mutual respect and encouraged everyone to work together and help each other improve. This made for a very welcoming and friendly atmosphere, where everyone felt comfortable and motivated to learn. Overall, I highly recommend this Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu women's class to anyone looking to improve their skills in a supportive and empowering environment. The newly opened location is clean, well-maintained, and has everything you need to get started. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced practitioner, you will find the class challenging, engaging, and rewarding. Don't hesitate to give it a try!

Professor Ulpiano and his staff are outstanding at GB River Oaks. It’s great learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, and Wrestling from such experienced and friendly instructors. The classes are fun and a great stress relief at lunch or early morning. We’ve trained for 12 years and have enjoyed the positive impact of the BJJ lifestyle upon our family’s health, mindset and togetherness. It’s a blast.

Great BJJ instruction and fun, enjoyable atmosphere. The instructors are awesome and the hardest part was showing up for the first class. It's been a lot of fun and great exercise with good people ever since. I was looking for something that beat the boredom of a gym and this certainly fit the bill.

Gracie Barra River Oaks Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in Houston Tx We did 1 trial class, and it was easy to schedule the class by calling. They were able to go over pricing over the phone. I was not a fan of the parking situation. The gym had a hand full of parking spots assigned to them. Maybe if I circled around more, I would have found more spots. I ended up parking on the side street. The class is well structured. They separate their classes by age for kids. My kids were 5 and 6 so they were in the same class. There were 4 instructors with maybe 15+ kids. There is a seating area for parents in the gym. Overall, it was a good experience. Pricing was reasonable and the gym was clean. However, my kids preferred another gym.
