My son has been training at Brazil 021 since the beginning of 2024. The coaches are friendly and very attentive with all the kids. Even if a student is not a high level competitor, I see the coaches still give them just as much attention and it’s clear they want all the students to grow as people and as Jiu Jitsu practitioners. The environment in both children and adult classes is very friendly and welcoming. Both my son and I have made a lot of new friends here and I feel very fortunate to have found such a great place for him to train at. I belong to a different team, but I always have a great time at Open Mat sessions here and all the students share knowledge with me when we train. It’s particularly fun to roll with Coach Gavin or Professor Marcos, who wreck me and make me question my existence on the mat. And magically, nothing is ever injured but my pride 😂 Whether you are looking to be an active competitor, want to learn self defense, or just want a fun way to get some exercise, you absolutely will find it at Brazil 021.

My son has been training for the past year and the extensive experience from Marcos was shown since the first day of training and it has never diminish, he along with Sidney and every classmate has always take the time to individually help my son to grow, where he can find his weakness and push his boundaries physically and mentally. I started out as a dad who just came to watch his kids train here. I eventually got sucked in after telling my son how he should handle his training partners, and him replying to me that “it’s not that easy why don’t you do it.” Okay challenge accepted. He’s right it’s not easy, but Professor Marcos and Sydney have created a welcoming non-meathead type of Jiu-Jitsu Academy. I mean non-meathead in the best of ways as injuries and lifestyle are considered when you train. As a 40+ yr old man I can’t afford to be injured. I’ve felt that everyone who trains here is genuine in trying to improve their skills and very helpful in trying to help you improve as well. Professor Marcos and Syndey have created an atmosphere and community that is very conducive to learning. I have also learned many life lessons after training here for the last 6 months. A great place to “roll.”

This is one of the best places I have been to in the Houston area. I moved to Texas and I wanted to find the same quality of training I was receiving at my previous place. The professor is just amazing and mixes things around every so often. The facility is kept clean and the mats are cleaned every single day. There is a big restroom with a shower and towels available.

I started training here about a year ago as a beginner. My husband and daughter train here also but are more advanced than me. It has been a positive experience so far. The school is very community oriented with helpful and attentive staff, excellent communication and fair pricing. The facility is clean and well maintained. Professor Marcos is excellent. He explains things clearly and with context and tailors each week and class so that each student gets to develop his or her skills and be challenged without getting overwhelmed. He provides positive reinforcement but also tough love which is needed. As a beginner, I really appreciated the friendly culture at Brazil-021 and I felt a part of a really great group of people from the beginning. You won't be intimidated or feel like you have to fit in here. If you are interested in competing, you will be fully supported but you also don't have to if it isn't your thing. There is room for everyone at any level. I look forward to going to every class during the week and developing myself and my skills but also getting to have fun. Ju Jitsu is such a wonderful discipline with far too many benefits to name in this post. Needless to say, it doesn't matter what your age is, your gender or your current fitness level, you can benefit from Ju Jitsu and Brazil-021 is the best option in the Houston area.

Great academy overall! The academy is clean, organized and very welcoming! My grandkids (ages 4, 7, 8 and 10) love going to classes! Hands down the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu place in town! I tried a place close by for my kids-and boy what a HUGE difference. There they were just a number. But right from the first phone call inquiring about Brazilian 021, the difference was astronomical! Sidney was patient, answered all my questions and followed up well! You can tell she is passionate about this awesome place! The kids LOVE coming here! I was afraid they wouldn’t want to train and commit, but everyone here gives their 110%. Coach Gavin helper the kids get to understand the training and stuck with them to teach them. Professor Marcos is passionate about this and great with kids! Sidney is the icing on top! Note: I have a lot to say, so this review is going to be pretty long (and messy). As of writing this review, this is the only place I've trained jiu-jitsu at, so I won't be able to compare it to other places. That being said, I still believe that this place is great for most looking to learn or continue learning jiu-jitsu. ::Thoughts on the classes/class structure and teaching:: For the most part, the classes are taught by Prof. Marcos (4th-degree black belt). In my opinion, he's strict, but not needlessly controlling. For example, he'll make sure that everyone is following rules and all that, but he's not strict to the point where you would worry about the slightest misstep. Another thing is professor doesn't sugarcoat anything. He will tell you if you're doing something wrong and how you're doing it wrong. It's easy to tell that he's passionate about teaching by how he treats the students and his attitude about training and competing. Professor Marcos is also knowledgeable about the sport and teaches in a way that allows beginners to understand the drill without taking away from more experienced students. He also emphasizes the safety of his students and makes sure that they can perform techniques such as breakfalls correctly so they won't injure themselves while training. As for class structure, even the kids classes are organized and well-run. Professor does a good job of keeping the students from misbehaving (see the above mention of being strict but not too strict) while still allowing the kids to have fun. At the end of some classes, the kids play games such as Red Light Green Light or are allowed to climb the rope (If they're climbing the rope, there's always an instructor there to make sure they're safe and don't get hurt.) ::Thoughts on the people/environment:: Everyone at the academy is very welcoming, no matter if someone is new to jiu-jitsu or has already had experience. When higher belts train with lower belts, they'll usually take it easy (but not to the point where the other person doesn't meet resistance when performing moves.) The more experienced students are also willing to help people understand drills, share stories, and give some advice, and no one makes fun of others for not being able to execute a move properly or making mistakes while training. After class there usually are some people who stay behind to talk and/or train a bit more. Discussion of techniques irrelevant to the drill of the day typically happens then, as well as students doing some more live training together, or just staying to hang out and watch other people train. ::Cleanliness of the academy:: The academy is very clean and is wiped down after every day. The mats are swept and mopped (typically by willing students or instructors), and sweeping/mopping duty isn't delegated to specific people. The tables and chairs outside of the mats are also cleaned routinely, and the floors are vacuumed. Shoes aren't allowed on the mats to keep any germs from the shoes off the mats. Likewise, it's preferred that people don't walk barefoot when off the mats. ::Treatment of newer students:: Newer students typically start learning with the rest of the class after a few classes of learning the basics and typically join live training sessions after a class or two. Whoever they're paired up with will typically explain the basics of live training and won't utterly decimate them just to show that they can. ::My own experience:: I started jiu-jitsu two years ago, during the summer between eighth and ninth grade. In the beginning, I was nervous due to having never done martial arts before, and just being kind of socially awkward. Everyone was really welcoming though, especially Sydney and Professor Marcos, and I ended up coming back for more classes. Two years later, I've gone from knowing nobody there to having dinner after a competition with friends from the academy. From this place, I've not only learned jiu-jitsu, but also made some great friends. I would've said more but Google Reviews has a character limit.

Such a great place! My 2 kids were pretty reserve and shy, but Coach Marco and his crew were very patient with them, and now they love it. We pass up a few other Jiu-jitsu places to get here, but kids won't go anywhere else.

I 100% recommend this place for anyone looking for a clean, friendly, and all around wholesome martial arts school. Professor Marcos and Sydney go above and beyond for everyone in their school, especially the children. They have definitely helped my two daughters (8 & 10) overcome hard days, whether it be something outside of martial arts, or in class. They have suprised me with how much they have learned and accomplished over the last year and a half. We love that we don't feel like just another number here, here we feel welcomed.

I've had my 2 kids enrolled at Brazil-021 for the last year and the school has positively impacted our children's lives. Professor Marcos and Sydney are very professional, friendly, patient, and detailed. Professor Marcos uses his experience to teach his students not only Jiu-Jitsu on the mats, but key lessons in life such as, manners, respect, discipline, and self-esteem. The kids love going! Professor Marcos, Sydney, and the entire Brazil 021 team have been such a blessing to our family. My son (7yrs old) started here with zero experience and a bit of a discipline issue, and in less than a year Marcos has got him absolutely LOVING jiujitsu, listening, and being a model student in class. Marcos is fantastic with the kids and Sydney is so accommodating with families who have multiple kids and are trying to coordinate getting everyone to various places. This is a safe and fun environment that is well worth your money. They love and nurture your children and actually teach them the skills of the sport. Been coming here for about 9 months and I can really say this place has change the way I understand how, what my body can move and do . As a petite woman, it is always good to know a little about self defense or in the event of unwelcome confrontation. Prof Marcos takes time to explain when I have question and is very respectful. I feel the same way with people I train with at the mat as well. During this time of pandemic, this academy is taking every safety precautions before, during and after the class. Sydney, the office manager will take your body temperature, sanitize your hands, then she assigns you to a marked 6ft x 6ft personal square with 6ft apart from another personal square. You will train by yourself in the square. After the session, you will leave the mat one person at a time for proper social distancing and they sanitize your hands again. They sanitize the mat after each session. They let you try it for free for a week before making your decision. I highly recommend this BJJ!

Great place and atmosphere for self defense and BJJ. Prof. Marcos and Prof. Derry have technical teaching styles that provide a great base for any BJJ level. The 5:30 am classes at the downtown facility, although really early, is the best way to start the day for anyone having long work hours during the day! My son has been taking classes at Brazil 021 for 18 months now and has really learned a lot and enjoyed it. Professor Marcos and Coach Derry and Coach Danny have been great with him. Professor Marcos really makes an effort to not only train the students but teach them discipline, perseverance, and hard work. Sydney has been great to work with and is always informative and addresses any questions we have with a positive attitude. I like that though the classes have age recommendations, they try to be flexible and accommodating to busy schedules. I’ve had a very positive experience and would highly recommend this place!

Brazil-021 has been one of the greatest things that has happen to my son. I decide to try out jiu jitsu for for him first and shortly after starting jiu jitsu he joined Muay Thai. We had been having trouble at school so I decided that having some sort of disciple would help him out. And it definitely has helped he is always so excited to go train that he sees it as a reward. And even when we are still having trouble with him at home or school the coaches are always happy to step in and talk to him and help him in anyway possible. I have a three year old and a four year old who have been training at this gym for a while and I have to say it has been the best decision I’ve made so far for my kids. The discipline and patience that profesor Marcos and profesor Derry demonstrate with all the children in the classes is amazing! My kids have learned so much thanks to the classes being well structured and small. The atmosphere is very warm and friendly, everyone parents and staff are very welcoming and easy to get along with. There is also the main receptionist Sydney parrott who is beyond helpful with any concerns or questions I have! She’s polite, friendly, understanding and very easy to talk to. I have been training at Brazil-021 for the past 2 years and I honestly don't think there is a better school around. When i first started I was 36 years old with a Dad Bod looking to get into shape and learn a martial art. Since that time i have been continually impressed with the instruction, structure, and community that has been a part of my training. Professor Marcos is from Brazil, has over 20 yrs experience, and has a great training curriculum for all his students. I don't think there is any Academy better to learn BJJ. An additional benefit to training here is the great people I have met and the community that i have gotten to be a part of. There is a strong team atmosphere and everyone is there to help their training partners improve. The gym is very clean. It has family and kid classes that are great. The people are awesome and it has been a wonderful experience training there. If you are looking for a place to come train or start learning I highly recommend speaking to Professor Marcos and checking out Brazil-021. I don't think you will be disappointed.

I have been training with Brazil-021 for 3 years now and I can say that I look forward to every class. There is always something new to learn and the classes are always fun. Brazil-021 offers a comprehensive curriculum of elite caliber Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training. I do not use the word elite lightly. I had trained for almost 20 years before joining this Academy and I quickly realized that I had a lot to learn. Professor Marcos patiently answered all my questions and helped me to individualize my strategies according to my own unique gifts and style of training. He does this for everyone because he believes in bringing out the best in each of his students. I have been competing in BJJ for many years, but this is both a competition and self defense Academy. To Professor Marcos there is no difference; if you want to compete this is the place for you, if you just want to learn self defense in a supportive, friendly environment, then this is also the place for you. The Academy is always clean and well organized and they offer a great program for Children as well as the Adult classes. We regularly host visitors who live in other parts of the country but come to visit Houston and want to continue to train while away from their gym. I would highly recommend either watching a class or trying BJJ to see what it is like. You will not be disappointed.

My son (8yo) has been training at Brazil-021 for the past 6 months. Prior to joining here I had looked at many other Jiu-Jitsu schools in the area. I was impressed with the level of instruction and individual attention that they provide to each child. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. My son looks forward to training twice a week and is constantly asking me to take him. Additionally, there is a family class on Saturday where parents are invited to train with their children. Family class is an amazing time to train with my son and he talks about it for the entire week. In my younger days, I trained in multiple martial arts including Jiu-jitsu. I have attended a few adult classes (work schedule permitting) and find the level of instruction to be excellent. The classes are challenging but approachable. I can't wait to be able to attend more regularly.

The Coaches are always so friendly and willing to help you out with whatever it is you need. You’re not treated as just another student at this gym but treated as an individual. Training at Brazil-021 has been an awesome experience. The staff are incredible and seem to really value their students. The Muay Thai program is comprehensive and diverse. Coach Franco is well-educated and he brings this well-informed influence to every class. I don't think you'll find another place that provides as much individual and knowledge-based guidance as Brazil-021. While I can't speak personally to the Jiu-Jitsu program, I can say that the instructors are approachable and invested in the all of the members here- this gym is small family feel with big-time accolades at its back <3

What's a great place! I travel a lot and always try and train at different schools. When I called the school the staff was super friendly and provided the info I request. When I walked in the staff remember my name from the call which really impressed me. The school is every well designed and very organized and super clean. Everyone came up to me and greeted me and showed me great respect at the school. I felt like I was training at home and felt like I was part of the family. Professor Marcos is very nice and I really enjoy his class and also his Philosophy of jujitsu and how he shares that with his students. You can see and feel his passion when he teaches his class. I am a black belt in BJJ and If you are looking for a high quality BJJ school in the area I highly recommend this place. You will not be disappointed. I will definitely continue to come here when I am in the area.

Brazil-021 is a special place, as is for so many others who I train with and have gotten to know. The staff and instructors are approachable and communicate well. I’ve been to many gyms, but have never been to one that cares about the growth and well-being of their students and the community and family they create as much as I have felt here. As a physical therapist, I see the safety and care taken in classes across all levels and ages, and know that there is intelligent consideration around all of this. There is an integrity and passion carried by the instructors that is passed on to their students. It is a joy to train here and grow with everyone.

I have been to several dojos searching for the right place for my three young boys. I found the perfect fit in Brazi 021. First of all, Professor Marcos is the real deal! He practices what he preaches, lives by integrity, and deeply cares about each one of his students. From the moment we walked in he has treated us like family and my boys love him. He went to great lengths to help my youngest who was struggling with the transition. Instead of viewing my child as a distraction, he took time out of class to give him one on one attention and instruction for several weeks until he felt comfortable with the entire group . With Professor Marcos in charge, it is no wonder that the entire staff and facility are top notch! Every single staff member is dedicated, caring, professional, and fully invested in the training of others. I immediately felt at ease and a sense of trust at Brazi 021. Not to mention the facility is bright and immaculate. Brazi 021 blows the other dark and dingy dojos out of the water. I truly cannot speak highly enough of Brazi 021. We will be students there for years to come and we will be referring all of our friends. Anyone who gives the facility and instructors less than five stars is in an alternate universe! Come experience it for yourself!

This is an amazing academy, full of highly-skilled practitioners, and yet still the most welcoming, friendly place you could imagine. I did an entire free trial week, but in all honesty I was 100% sure that I wanted to join after my first lesson. Great instruction, as well as generous, super skilled training partners. And on top of it all is this welcoming culture of safety, cleanliness, knowledge-sharing, and high-grade, technical jiu-jitsu. The instructors here are not only top-notch at jiu-jitsu, but are great people who take genuine delight in seeing the students get better and better each class. They're always watching and working to improve each student's unique jiu-jitsu game as it takes shape. The knowledge and insight they share is powerful stuff, often the kind of hard-won knowledge that they've earned through competition and grueling experience. A great place to learn, and a great place to train! They really do it right here, and I couldn't be happier.

Professor Marcos Cerqueira and Brazil-021 was exactly what I was looking for in an instructor and martial arts school for my 5yr. old son. Watching professor working with the kids only confirmed that this was the best place to train. Shortly afterwards the entire family was training. You can train to achieve your individual goals: confidence on an off the mat, courage to stand up for others that are being bullied, physical fitness, or competing. What ever your goals professor and the other students will be there for you. There is no doubt that my family and I have learned more than just Jiu-Jitsu at Brazil-021.

This academy has something for the whole family. The class schedule makes it convenient to train even when your work week is busy. The children's BJJ class is awesome. Professor Marcos is wonderful with the kids. He knows when to push and when to take it easy. Safety and respect is paramount in the class. Both my son and my daughter have advanced in self discipline and in physical ability. They are finding their own inner strength and confidence as a direct result of training and being a part of the Brazil-021 team. Along the way they are making great friends and learning some lifelong skills. I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great jiu jitsu club.

If you have ever been curious of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, I would advise you to take the plunge and try the one week trial Brazil-021 Houston offers. I have never done any time of martial arts in the past and was a little worried about starting it. I am so glad I joined this great academy. From the moment I stepped into the facility, I felt welcomed. The people there go out of their way to make you feel comfortable. The kicker is during my week trial period, I did not even get to meet Professor Marcos. The classes were taught by other highly qualified members. They were patient, thoughtful, and informative without taking things too seriously. I believe this is a huge reflection of Professor Marcos' values and how it trickles down to his students. Whether you eventually compete or not, there is no pressure to if you are not interested. Main thing that stood out for me is Professor Marcos is not obsessed with your competition results. He cares if you learn something from it win or lose. He does not just make you strive to become a better practitioner of BJJ but also a better person.

About six months ago, I decided I wanted to do jiu-jitsu and began looking around for places. Brazil-021 was the first school I tried and after the 5:30 am class with Emre, who is an exceptional black belt instructor, I knew I didn't need to look any further. Professor Marcos, the head instructor, has built an impressive academy here in Houston. The technical instruction is extremely thorough and it is very easy to ask questions. We are taught to train hard but to always train safely. Additionally, the mats are immaculate as they are cleaned after every class. I think the most remarkable feature of this academy is the culture that Marcos has built which is one of respect, discipline, and character. Teaching Brazilian jiu-jitsu techniques is one thing, but it takes a special person to seamlessly incorporate the lessons you learn on the mats in your daily life. And that extends to Emre and Danny as well. If you are looking for high quality jiu-jitsu training that will challenge you but with an atmosphere that feels like you are among family, you should definitely check out Brazil-021.

I've been a team sport kind of person for most of my life so I wasn't really sure if I would even like Brazilian jiu-jitsu. But I tried it on a whim (yay new years resolutions!) and it's brought so much positive change to my life; I can't recommend this academy enough. Brazil-021 is a welcoming place with first-rate thorough instruction and good clean facilities.Thanks to Prof. Marcos and what the other coaches have built, Brazil-021 is such an amazing community of people who constantly seek to better themselves and those around them. Great Jiu Jitsu school. Great environment. Professor Marcos is friendly and welcoming to anyone who walks through the door. I trained other martial arts years ago but was slightly intimidated to start jiu jitsu. Any concerns were quickly put to rest. I immediately felt welcomed by professor Marcos, the other trainers and every other student. The instruction is taught so everyone, at any skill level, can understand. Professor Marcos encourages questions which gives the feeling he has our best interest and education in mind.

Warning: This place is addicting! Professor Marcos and the entire team make you feel like part of the family from the beginning and it just gets better from there. Doesn’t matter if you’ve trained martial arts before or if you have any athletic background, they help you feel right at home and take away any intimidation factor you may have had. They set such an incredibly high bar as a team, I just can’t imagine training anywhere else. You’ll have a new family here for sure, on and off of the mats. What are you waiting for? The classes at Brazil-021 are phenomenal. Professor Marcos and his team have created the perfect blend of conditioning and martial arts. For the entire hour, muscles I did not even know I had are engaged. It has really helped improve my strength, agility, and conditioning. I've enjoyed it so much I have signed my son up for the kids classes, and it is amazing to see his confidence boost after only a few short classes. Could not be happier and recommend it to anyone looking for a jiu jitsu academy.

I remember reading the reviews on here before trying my first class, and decided to give it a go based on the great comments I saw here. Almost a year later, and the reviews here really don't do justice to how great this school is. Professor Marcos, Derry, Emre and the other coaches and higher belts have created a truly wonderful team atmosphere and a great place to learn. There is no exaggeration in the reviews that say that Prof. Marcos and the others treat you like family. Everyone is welcoming and friendly, yet serious about learning and improving. I really can't recommend Brazil 021 enough, come try out a class!

My home away from home for two weeks. A very strong sense of family, ethos and mateship resonates throughout this academy - the Instructors are super friendly, helpful and knowledgeable (special shout out to Instructor Derry at the Downtown Club!). Professor Marcos' passion for BJJ, teaching and desire to further build his family of jiu-jitsu practitioners can be felt through every team mate and Instructor you encounter throughout the school. Whilst 5:30am starts before the work day might seem daunting at first, I always walked away from every session feeling rejuvenated, enlightened and energised to get through the rest of the day. Thank you for having such a strong positive and friendly culture and fully embracing me into the Brazil-021 family! The trifecta of expert guidance, friendship and awesome facilities are honestly my biggest reasons for wanting to keep coming back to visit Houston!

I've been doing martial arts since I was a kid and once again I am humbled by the experience. Professors Marcos and Emere are fantastic instructors. I heard of Brazil-021 from a friend who highly recommended it for my kids. I went there that day and was pleasantly surprised to find a warm, kind, and inviting atmosphere. The parents I met were also very pleasant and encouraging. With all that said, the key to locking me into Brazil-021 that day was watching the kids train. They were having fun while actually learning valid techniques. Since then my family has joined and we are all learning and having fun. And now I'm the one tell his friends to take their kids (and themselves) to Brazil-021.

I really cant say enough good things about my experience so far with Brazil 021, head instructor Marcos, and instructors Emre and Derry. After almost a year of going back and forth on whether or not I really wanted to start a brand new sport in my mid thirties, and after visiting several gyms, I finally found Brazil 021 and reached out to Marcos - and I'm so glad I did. From the start, he was very welcoming and encouraging. The culture of this school is exactly what I was looking for, which is competitive and hard working, but also welcoming and patient. I cant speak to the teenagers and early twenty-somethings who are interested in a new place to train (although I suspect this is a great school for everyone), but I can say that if you are fast approaching middle age (or already there) and interested in starting BJJ, this is a great place to come check out. Bonus points to Brazil 021 for having a central location in Houston AND having a 5:30am class.

Decided to join Brazil 21 because I wanted to learn more about the art that is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Being in my 40's, slightly overweight, and been slacking in my exercising, I was hesitant to say the least. However, that all went away when I met Professor Marcos. He and his team made me feel comfortable and welcomed from the moment I set foot on his matts 6 months ago. Now I'm 25 lbs lighter and love all that I've been doing and learning at Brazil 21!!! What's also notable is how the people make you feel like family. I've met some great people that constantly support and help push me, esp when I don't think I could've gone any further. Brazil 21 is definitely a great place to get a full work out and meet great people while learning BJJ!

After the first class, I don't. Even if you don't know a thing like me, everyone will help you to learn step by step. And most importantly, there is a huge mat you can roll :)

My 12 year old son Alexander loves this sport. I tried to enroll him in other self defense sports but he is not an aggressive type and has no desire to kick and punch etc. After watching a few videos of Brazilian jiu jitsu he immediately wanted to do it. While this sport is totally different from karate kungfu and various other marshal art forms it is highly effective and basically unbeatable in my opinion. Once on the ground which happens in almost all fights the opponent stands zero chance against a person trained in this sport. Marcus is a great coach patient and very gentle with the kids. One can't really wish for a better more versatile teacher. He is also from Brazil where this sport is originated from and to me that is very important. This is an excellent school and the facility is also very attractive. I would strongly recommend it to anyone who wants to learn a very effective form of self defense.

My 3 year old son (almost 4) has been attending Brazil-021 for over a month and he has been going to class three times a week. My son looks forward to going and he is learning all about team work, discipline, respect, as well as getting a good work out and of course the art of Jiu-jitsu/ self-defense. He is proud of what he learning and after class he likes to teach his dad the new moves he has learned that day - it is a bonding experience between father and son as well. Professor Marcos is a very kind, caring and thoughtful teacher and all of the staff are so good with the kids! The classes range in age from 4-12 and some days there are nineteen kids in a class and other days there are six or seven - it varies. When the class is large they have more than one teacher in the class and they even separate the younger kids from the older kids at times so that it is age appropriate and safe for everyone. Also, at other times the older kids are paired with the younger ones and the older kids get to teach/help the little ones learn Jiu-jitsu. Honestly as a mom, I look forward to going to the classes and watching. The staff are all very friendly and welcoming - Brazil-021 is a supportive community and even when we were new we felt embraced by this community.

Professor Marcos and the team are great. I tried a few different gyms and never really stuck with jiu-jitsu for more than a couple weeks but the instruction here was great for a beginner. I've been coming here 3-4 times a week for about 5 months now and its part of my normal routine now. Professor Marcos, the instructors, and all the higher belts are very helpful and encouraging.

I would really like to thank Brazil-021 Houston for being so welcoming to new students and for providing an amazing experience! As someone new to the sport and new to martial arts (at 36) I couldn't have asked for a better place to learn. The instructors are all top notch and work to make sure everyone has the best session possible. The gym is first rate and I have loved every minute of my training here. My husband and I were initially looking for an outlet for our 4yr old son to learn discipline, teamwork, and fitness. During the month that our son has been attending class, his demeanor has changed noticeably. He has a confidence and independence, and asks every day if he can go to class to "maintain his fitness" and tells us that he "promises not to use his jiu-jitsu to hurt anyone." I cannot thank the family at Brazil-021 enough for all they have done....and it is a family. While many martial arts studios operate on a business model and focus on the end dollar, Brazil-021 does not. They really care about their members and try to make everyone feel accepted and loved. We are so in awe that my husband and I are signing up for classes ourselves. I have several injuries and a poor core (thank childbirth!), and I am looking at strengthening these areas and becoming stronger once more. If you're looking for a place that motivates, encourages, and pushes you to find your best, you could not do better than Brazil-021.

I must admit I was apprehensive of writing a review for Professor Marcos for a very long time simply for sake of believing that I truly could not deliver on sufficiently capturing what a remarkable impact this man has had on my life in one simple online review. If you are prospective student looking for a new direction in life or a current practitioner changing schools, I hope this review influences your decision because I truly believe from the bottom of my heart that you will not regret your decision to make Brazil 021 your future home. Anyone that has met Marcos will immediately get the feeling that there is something very unique about this person. A down to earth, charming, intelligent demeanor (could have easily excelled at running a Fortune 500 company) mixing it up with his students that range from military vets to lawyers, chemists, surgeons and kids! All having fun in a clean, well organized yet relaxed environment! Professor Marcos truly encompasses all the qualities that a make an exceptional teacher and coach. Though he still competes successfully in world tournaments, he never compromises his duties and responsibility to his school. In fact he is very rarely absent from class! A true testament to his love for the sport and dedication to his students. After training at this location for over 6 years I am still amazed by how many students have stopped by for intro class and stayed with it up until today. There are countless cases of people who have come to this school severely out of shape and have never played a organized sport in their lives that have gone on to become World Champions in BJJ under Marcos. Many people make the mistake of judging a school by name recognition, logo or famous "head instructor" located hundreds of miles away and comes around twice a year to administer belt promotions or hold seminars. If that's what defines "good" martial arts academies in America these days then you will not find that here. If you care less about what your patch says and more about how effective and technical your Jiu-Jitsu game is then this is what Brazil 021 is all about!

I can't really explain how grateful I am to train at Brazil 021, but I'll try to give this Google review justice of my experience over the last two years. If you come to the school and talk to me, I'd be more than happy to expand further. From the first time you step on the mat until the last, Marcos makes a conscious effort to make each of his students know they matter to him, and it shows in his demeanor and teaching style. Most of us could train anywhere; we're pretty much all adults with jobs, and we live in a BJJ hotbed in Houston, but we choose to train at Brazil 021 Houston because of the family environment, and tremendous quality of instruction. The first impression I distinctly remember was the friendliness of all the students and instructors. Before starting, I had read extensively about training in BJJ and that I should expect to basically be ignored by the other students until I trained for at least two or three months, if not more. However, from the first day at Brazil 021, nearly everyone introduced themselves, and asked how long I had been training, if I liked it, and if I'd be coming back. It was very encouraging. After my first session, I cancelled the trials I had scheduled with the other schools. I knew I had found my jiu-jitsu home. Just as another example of the environment, after about 7 months of training, I fell ill and wasn't in training for a little over a week. Marcos sent me a message on Facebook to make sure I was alright, and to see if I would be returning soon. It might not sound like much, but it meant a lot to me. The school isn't only nice, it has incredible instruction. We have a significantly smaller school than most, but finished a couple of points just out of the top three in the IBJJF Houston Open last year, which is something that I'm sure Marcos is very proud of; I know I am. We also have individual competitors who do very well everywhere they go, and one competitor who travels far and wide (and usually wins). Another point I'd like to make about the instruction is that Marcos doesn't overwhelm his students. He knows the level he is teaching to, and teaches to the majority of the class. He or Emre (the other professor at the school) also give more subtle points to the more advanced students during drilling. That's another huge pro of going to a smaller school: the instructors know your game, and know what you don't know, so they can tailor both in class instruction and competition coaching to what you need to work on/your style. Finally, we train hard, but we train controlled. No one is going to hurt you intentionally or out of hurt pride, or roll too hard and hurt you while you're new. We make sure all the new white belts are safe, and feel welcome. If you've read this far, you're interested in training, and should just do it! Come out and try a session!

Excellent. Brazil-021 is easily my favorite place to be. My kids and I attend classes regularly every single week and we always feel welcome. Jiu-Jitsu has helped us in ways I never thought possible. Marcos is a kind, trusting and generous person. My children are safe, the coaches are awesome, classes are fun, facilities are clean, the schedule is accommodating and our training is outstanding; I absolutely cannot recommend this place enough.

First rate Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school in Houston. I am not a member at Brazil-021, as I live in Dallas. However, I train here as often as I can. The instructor, Marcos, is one of the best; whether you are new to Jiu Jitsu or been training for years. In what can be an intimidating martial art, the atmosphere here is always welcoming and friendly. The facility is well maintained and always clean. One of my favorite places to train away from home.

I've been training here for just under two months now and I absolutely love it. (So much so that I go almost every day!) The community of people is incredible. Everyone is so welcoming and encouraging. I have a chronically bad knee but everyone I train with is understanding of this and we practice and roll accordingly. I'm never neglected because I'm an injured beginner white belt, Professor Marcos and the other coaches work hard to ensure that everyone that trains here gets to practice.

My 4yr old son expressed an interest in learning "karate". We visited a handful of various-discipline martial-arts dojo's in the area and were most impressed with the kid's program at Brazil-021, and especially with Marcos. My son is not only learning self-defense, he's learning discipline, confidence, and respect.. and having lots of fun! We love this place!

I've been to a lot of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gyms. A lot - from Orange County, to Brazil, to New York, to Fargo North Dakota. I stopped by BRAZIL-021 (021 is the Rio de Janeiro area code) while I was in town for business. BRAZIL-021 is a BJJ gym that does EVERYTHING right. What do I mean? They pay attention to all the little things that make for a great gym experience. ATTENTION TO CLEANLINESS - This is super important in gyms. It makes people feel comfortable and keeps people from getting sick. The thing about cleanliness is that the responsibility goes beyond just the management to the class as a whole. Beyond a meticulously clean facility, the other students looked out to make sure I knew where I should and should not step, where to place my shoes, etc. It was clear they have been explicitly trained to care about cleanliness. This is good for everyone. ATTENTION TO SAFETY - in a very professional way, BRAZIL-021 collected my info and had me sign a waiver before class. This is standard at any gym. I was surprised at the start of class when Marcos (the head instructor) asked me a question about some of the information I put down (related to a previous surgery of mine). In most gyms, waivers are just signed and forgotten. I appreciated Marcos' attention to any special needs I might have. Marcos also insisted on rolling with me before I rolled with any of his students. It showed his concern for their safety - he didn't know me and by rolling with me he made sure I wasn't some unsafe spaz or ego-case before mixing me in with his other students. ATTENTION TO CULTURE - The attitudes of the other students were immediately apparent as they entered the class. They are there to train, to learn and to grow. This is not some meathead fight-club gym, or some place where the students just want to socialize and pretend they are training. Brazil-021 has a wonderfully dedicated and supportive culture. ATTENTION TO EDUCATION - Marcos is clearly a gifted teacher. I was impressed by his ability to watch the whole class and provide individual instruction related to specific movements. I look forward to learning more from him in the future. Did you have fun? Did you learn something? Did you get a good workout? These are my three criteria for evaluating the success of a jiu jitsu training session. Brazil-021 satisfied all three of those completely. Five Stars. I can't wait to return next time I'm in Houston.

Professor Marcos is an outstanding instructor who exemplifies everything BJJ is about. I dropped in on the 5:30 am class. There was an awesome high intensity warm up followed by some good drills and technique. Then we rolled for 3 long rounds and I had the privilege of rolling with the professor, which was extremely generous of him. Great gym with great training partners and instruction. Hope to be back soon. Thank you!

I've trained with Marcos for over 4 years. I don't want to go anywhere else. Marcos is a great instructor. The classes are always informative and everyone that trains there is very respectful and friendly. I have recommended Brazil 021 to many people.

Since the first day you join Brazil-021, Professor Marcos treats you with the up-most respect. The classroom setting is very welcoming to new students and he makes sure you learn the art. He truly loves what he does and I could not see myself at any other school.

Marcos and the crew of Brazil-021 School of Jiu Jitsu are amazing. I was traveling for work and decided to drop in on the classes. Every one of the students exemplified the welcoming spirit of Jiu Jitsu. I felt valued and really dug the training. They were great people and SOLID Jiu Jitsokas! Their Jiu Jitsu skills really forced me to grow.

Brazil-021 is an amazing atmosphere, from my first visit Professor Marcos made me feel like family. His knowledge goes far beyond just your traditional jiu-jitsu he makes every student feel important and involved in every aspect of the training whether it's their first visit or the have been training for years. My family asks me why I enjoy attending class so much and the only answer I can give them is the school has become my second family and the relationships I have created will last far beyond my days in the GI. So for anyone who is on the fence about getting involved in jiu-jitsu or looking for a new school, I would highly recommend Professor Marcos. You will immediately see why our school is a big family.

Brazil-021 Houston Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu / Self-Defense Their trial class costs $ 25. They credit it back only if you enroll. I wanted to find out more info (ex pricing, class structure) before spending $50. I called at least 5 times between 9-12 am and only got voice mail. I ended up sending an email to get the same info that I could get from their website. I did not pursue further.

Feels like a family, but remember, it's still a business. All sweet talk until there's a disagreement and then, well, sorry, business and business and that's what's in the contract. So, be careful with the contract and terms of the contract. I presume many other places are the same but don't expect any compassion or service if there are any life changes for you, because, if it's in the contract, you're SOL. As for their response, a bunch more of their chitty-chitty-chit-chat. You'll learn more martial arts from Kung Fu Panda! Hahahaha!
