I have hired the owner/master for multiple events at the gym I own, including a 4-part Women’s Self Defense course and kid’s summer camp. I was impressed with John’s knowledge and his ability to teach in an active/engaging way. Would hire him again and again!
I joined Bushi ban one year ago and it was the best decision I could have made. Right after I took my first class I knew that this was the place for me. The teacher was so welcoming and friendly. All the adults in the class made me feel instantly part of the group when I stepped on the mat. I love the values that Master John teaches his students and his instructors. Amazing people, amazing classes and an overall fun environment! 😊😁
My son and I have been taking classes from both locations for a couple years now and we not only love the classes themselves but I love the atmosphere and family-like environment. The school has not only been such a godsend to my son who has definitely grown and matured from the classes, but a great outlet for me to get back into my workout routine after having two babies. I’m not a “run on the treadmill” person and the kickboxing and jui jitsu has been awesome outlets to get me back in shape. If that wasn’t enough, the owner is a huge supporter of the community and so many charities that ring home to so many. Need more people in the world like this! Would recommend to everyone, for the whole family! Something for everyone to take and it feels like a second home when walking in. So happy they are here in the community especially in a time when kids can only benefit from the values and teachings of the school.
I would just like to say how wonderful Bushi Ban and staff have been towards the children in our Foundation I that assists children who lost a parent. He goes out of his way to donate his time to help these children and their struggles. Master John is kind, patient and a huge supporter of our Mission and our "kindess initiative" within the Town of Seymour. He has been an integral part of this initiative and has helped spearhead the Buddy Bench project as well. He is extremely knowledgeable and during our kickboxing class he always encouraged us and helped us reach our max potential! I highly recommend Bushi Ban for all ages!
Bushi Ban is an amazing place to learn martial arts, self defense and get stronger (physically and mentally). Sensei John is extremely knowledgeable and all the teachers are very patient and dedicated to explaining everything in a way that works for you. The classmates are all kind and friendly, you feel welcomed right away! The classes are demanding but also very fun!! So you get to work out and get fit while enjoying yourself. I love going to Bushi Ban 💕
Bushi ban was one of the first martial arts 🏫 I started training in from 06-08 now that I'm back if I'm having a bad day as soon as the bushi ban training begins after class I feel 10 times better
My son has been with Bushi Ban for 3 years or so and it has become our second family. The instructors are very determined to bring out the best from each student. Every student is a part of the "family", but each student is individualized based on abilities. Children with some special needs are very welcomed which can help them each depending on needs. Its a great place to see children develop friendships and motivate each other. Ones that truly love martial arts will learn more then kicks and punches. They learn how to be confident, leadership skill, and to be social and enriched in many areas. Its great for physical and mental growth. It also is fun. They have classes for younger ones like 4 to 5 years old all the way up to adults. Thai Chi is offered to, self defense and more. You won't be disappointed.
I am writing to express my deep disappointment regarding our recent experiences at your establishment, particularly those involving the owner/master. My family has been loyal for the past three years, and it is with heavy heart that I find myself compelled to address this matter.
Unfortunately, today marked a turning point in our relationship with your business. I have noticed a concerning pattern regarding the treatment of my children while they are under the supervision of the owner. His interactions with them have consistently been rude, which has significantly impacted their enthusiasm for attending classes on Fridays. In fact, my children have regularly voiced their reluctance to participate on those days due to the negative experiences they've encountered. We have made a conscious effort to avoid scheduling classes on Fridays whenever possible, opting instead for days when they could learn with other staff members who demonstrate a more positive and engaging approach. Despite our attempts to overlook these issues in hopes of improvement, today was truly the last straw. It is unacceptable for my children to be treated poorly, and I cannot condone this behavior any longer.
In addition to the uncomfortable atmosphere, I have noticed that during these sessions, the owner often spends a substantial amount of time talking—without effectively teaching the students their moves. This is not only frustrating but counterproductive to their learning experience. On multiple occasions, my children have come home disappointed.I believe it is crucial for every child to feel safe and supported in their learning environment.
