Had an incredible experience at Downtown Jiu-Jitsu Club! Dion went above and beyond on my first day, giving me a warm welcome, showing me around, and even waiving the drop-in fee. The training was top-notch, and the facility is spotless—truly one of the cleanest gyms I’ve ever been to. The showers, towels, and toiletries felt like something out of a luxury fitness club. Can’t recommend this place enough for anyone looking to train in a professional, welcoming environment!

I looked this place up in Chicago and read it was a good place to train at and it exceeded my expectations. Todd Oliver had sound instruction and technique for the day. He and the rest of the guys that were there were also very welcoming. I will definitely be coming back when I visit Chicago again.

Training here while visiting town has been a fantastic experience! The instruction is excellent, and everyone is incredibly welcoming. The gym is clean, has great rolls, and the showers are a nice touch. I'm bringing the whole family tomorrow. Highly recommend! I had an incredible training experience this morning and was planning to tour the city afterward. However, I couldn't resist dropping by again for a no-gi class. Even though I didn’t have any gear, they generously lent me pants. To my surprise, they were hosting a tournament-style EBI and included me in the under-170 division after asking my weight. It turned out to be the best day ever as a tourist. I'll definitely be going back Tomorrow

I’ve been training at DTJC since summer of 2022. I’ve learned so much and am constantly learning. Adem and his wisdom inspire me to get better. The crew and fellow BJJ players all motivate each other to get better. To me it’s more than a club, it’s a team, a brother/sisterhood… a family. I’m very happy to be a part of this family.

Have been coming since Feb of this year and love it! I checked out a couple other gyms in the area before signing up here. The decision came down to it being a clean, larger gym, and the coaches being great. I am a petite female and have felt comfortable working with both women and men here.

I have nothing but positive things to say about downtown jiu jitsu club. Over the past year and a half I have felt nothing but welcomed. I am the youngest member at just 16 years old. I get treated the exact same as everyone else. It’s really a special place. The overall atmosphere and environment is just something truly unique. It’s a very clean, structured, and organized place. They put their member first no matter what. It’s a wonderful place I highly recommend checking out. If you want to train and feel welcomed with open arms this is the place to go.

After being away from any sport, let alone combat sport, for almost 10 years I was very hesitant to join a jiu jitsu gym. Luckily I found Downtown Jiu Jitsu Club. They offer classes tailored for the fundamentals and getting your bearings on the mat. The coaches and other members have been nothing but supportive and welcoming. I started my jiu jitsu journey at this club in February. I still currently attend. It may seem intimidating as a woman, since it's mostly men, but through my time since Feb there has been more woman signing up as well. So women don't be afraid!! Everyone at the club including coaches and members are extremely nice and super helpful! They truly focus on building a positive community. Especially if you are new, it is very welcoming. Coach Solomon and Ibro, who teach the fundamentals classes are very good and are always available if you have questions during class. It is a very organized and structured club. They keep the place very clean, which is surprising when you have so many sweaty bodies around. Overall it's a great club and I've made some awesome friends here.

Getting choked out used to be terrifying before I became a DTJC member. Before getting choked meant I was in an emergency, now it means I’m open to practice my escapes. This gym is the best gym I’ve been to for martial arts. The people are very nice and welcoming. Nobody beats anyone up or anything weird like that. It’s slow and easy but you can also pick a partner to go fast and hard. It’s very diverse. The best part is the coaches. Their method of teaching is unmatched. They have a lot of patience and make it easy to learn. If you’re in Chicago and want to learn self defense or just train to BJJ this is the place to go to 💪

The facility is clean and offers lots of amenities - including showers, towel service, weight training and cardio equipment. Most importantly the community of members create a warm and friendly atmosphere. Adem has created an awesome space that is growing an even better BJJ community. I was in town for work and just came for a drop in class. Adem and the students welcomed me in to the class and provided great training. The class included drilling, but also provided philosophies of BJJ which deepens the understanding of the patterns a grappler needs to continue making progress. I highly recommend checking out the Downtown Jiu Jitsu Club. The above is from almost a year ago. I was back in Chicago this week for meetings and went to train at Aden’s gym again. He has made it even better. They have made it super easy for out of town folks to drop in with gi’s to rent, shower facilities, and plenty of space. I highly recommend checking out Coach Solo’s Monday night class. Great teaching and great partners to train with.

Downtown Jiu Jitsu Club is hands down one of my favorite gyms I have visited. The coaching has the technical details that rival places like Phuket Grappling Academy in Thailand. The training partners are a blast to roll with. I love that the environment focuses on helping each other improve and avoiding injuries. I’ve been training jiu jitsu for several years and I love training at Downtown Jiu Jitsu Club. Professor Adem has a teaching style that is not only battle-tested but he also blends a unique style of technical and philosophical lessons into his instructions. He is truly a world-class instructor. The other instructors are extremely knowledgeable as well and the facilities are clean. Over the years, I’ve trained at gyms across several countries, but nothing quite lives up to the standard that DJJC has set.

The facility is first-rate — lots of mat space, fully equipped with proper weights & squat racks, clean change rooms, hot showers, fresh towels, lounge area, but the big difference is the people & the superb training culture that DTJJC has built-up. The students are very invested in training hard & improving, but they are also very much invested in each other & the group as a whole. There is a lot of integrity in this room.

For those of us on the fence about stopping by : Jiu jitsu is an incredible long term investment in yourself. I’ve found that DTJC is invested in the long term growth and wellbeing of its members. It’s not another get fit quick scheme that seems to be in abundance throughout Chicago. The program is structured to benefit someone fresh off the street or someone with decades of experience. If you’re looking for something different or truly want to make lasting change - I don’t know of a better place. The other piece to this gym that I want to note is the people. Throughout the country is hard to really guess what you’re going to run into when you walk into a “martial arts gym”. I don’t know why it’s the case but some of the most down to earth people in the city seem to frequent DTJC. It doesn’t matter if it’s the Sr Partner at the big firm or the high school student looking for an extracurricular after school. It’s a space void of inflated egos and unwanted drama. It truly is a special community that I feel honored to be apart of. All of this is in a large part due to Adem. For those who understand the saying - they don’t make individuals like Adem (head instructor/black belt) anymore. This place is a factory attempting to break that trend. It’s hard for those great traits to not rub off. Oh and we practice Jiu jitsu. You have to come to see what’s all about :) you wouldn’t appreciate the length of this review if I started on the mental superpowers having a basic understanding of Jiu jitsu can have. I look forward to meeting you and welcoming you to the family. See you soon!

EDIT: - Great place to learn BJJ; no issues there. I would totally go back if they had a schedule that better fit mine. - Felt pressured signing up during the 1 x trial class. Later on, they told me they'd give me a refund for a Gi that I never used, and they did eventually honor their word (only after much discourse and days of texting). Their customer service representative was defensive, accusatory, and not very helpful... she said things like they had refunded my membership when they hadn't.

A good place to learn Jiu jitsu. I used to pay monthly fees in advance as I was enrolled in auto payment plan. When I decided to leave I had just paid my month advance, so I asked the gym to keep the fees I had paid and return my deposit that I had paid during the time of enrollment but they refused to pay saying that it’s their “policy “ to let them know in advance. Also they kinda pressure you indirectly to enroll in the program and have $100 reward towards monthly fees for leaving 5 star review. My advice is to not feel pressured to sign up and try different gyms. Also read their cancellation policy really well.
