At Checkmat South Texas we strive to engage the student through physical & mental training in Jiu-Jitsu, to become disciplined, confident, healthy individuals. We offer jiu-jitsu classes for children and adults, women's self-defense, a bully proof course, jiu-jitsu classes for law enforcement, in addition to private lessons.

Dropped in here while visiting and Professor Danian and his crew welcomed me with open arms. Rolled at few other gyms prior in the central Texas area and once I came here it did not compare. Danian students are all sharp so be prepared for some great rolls. Highly recommend this place to anyone. I wish I still lived here. I would proudly be a member here. Thank you Danian.

Great instructors, personalized learning, great atmosphere for teaching my young son the skills of juijitsu. They are also very attentive and give great communication when coordinating for private lessons to fit our schedule. I highly recommend! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

I made the decision to put my daughter of 8yrs old in Check Mat Jujitsu. She has only had 2 sessions and i can already see so much changes in her discipline. I love watching how they go and help every student. I highly recommend for kids teen even adults. One thing i know for sure my daughter loves it and she will be staying. CheckMat is the best thing to happen to the RGV. Check it out for yourself

Great place to train, I've been going since I was a little kid now I'm older and can see how great of a school it is I have been able to grow up and see my peers like me have gained knowledge not only about self defense but I and many others have gained discipline and respect. Great place to train for both kids and adults.5 out of 5 stars

I have both of my girls here (±6months) and my little one (3 years old) is very hyper and most definitely not the easiest toddler to work with, but Mrs.Kay has been absolutely amazing with her. She's very patient and understanding. I did my research and went with this academy, because of the professor and Mrs. Kay's background. I knew they were going to be in good hands.

Very satisfied with Checkmat! My 4 year old has been doing private lessons for 3 months here and has really improved not just in his skills, but with his behavior too. Mrs. KAY has really been amazing with him, she is patient but sets boundaries and overall his jit jiltsu lessons have helped him mature emtionally and as mentioned he has improved in his skills too! Highly recommended!

Checkmat South Texas is an extremely great place to train Jiu-Jitsu at whether you’re just looking for a great workout, ways to defend yourself, and/or even gain a sense of empowerment. Men, women, and children all find a second family here with Checkmat and everyone who walks in here, walks out having learned something and having grown as a martial artist. The instructors are amazing and do a great job of developing fighters and encouraging them to push their limits. I love the environment and all that people that train here.

If you're in the south Texas “Rio Grande Valley” area and want to learn Jiu-jitsu, this is the place to be. I’m from California and I always stop by for training when I’m in town on business. The facility is clean, the staff is very friendly, and the instructors are great!

My children and I have been members for about 8 months now. I like the friendly and family atmosphere that the instructors provide for adults and children. We love going because it provides a great outlet for stress relief, and you get a great workout as well. In the process, you not only learn some self defense, but you also lose weight and get in shape. Great for all the family no matter the age.

This family owned business is perfect for exercise and defense. My kids love the workouts and meeting new people. Very clean, and they have sanitizing practices to keep everyone healthy. The teachers are patient, knowledgeable, and kind. Highly recommend.

I have been training at Checkmat for years, since I was in 7th grade and now I'm a senior in high school, so I basically grew up in this place, it is a very good healthy environment to learn Jiu Jitsu, the people that train and teach here are amazing. Danian Torres is an amazing teacher.

I’ve only recently found the profound value of martial arts, specifically BJJ. I am a novice learner, thus far. When I first found this place I was a bit nervous to be amongst those who’ve been training for years. Everyone is very kind and caring and there’s no disrespect whatsoever between peers or the instructors. I was invited with open arms and everyone truly feels like family. The training is intense and fun and I highly recommend anyone check this place out if they are serious about learning BJJ from professional, enthusiastic and helpful teachers. Not only have I learnt much on the mats but I’ve learned much about life as well through the art of BJJ.

I have been doing martial arts my entire life, at first i was reluctant to try Brazilian Jujutsu. It wasn’t until I discovered CheckMat South Texas that i realized how much i would love to do this sport. CheckMat South Texas has not only allowed me to continue to grow as a martial artist but it has also allowed me to become a better and more disciplined person overall. The teaching staff is amazing and pays close attention to any detail and is exceptional at listening and answering questions. They also have a kids only class where children can learn not only how to defend themselves but to be more disciplined. Overall CheckMat South Texas is a great establishment and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested in becoming a better person.

I have been an active member for almost 5 years. I have tried other gyms and never felt as comfortable as I do here. Everyone is very friendly. The coaching staff is incredible and pays close attention to detail while teaching. They have classes for adults, kids, and women as well. I would recommend Checkmat South Texas to any person wanting to train as a beginner or experienced martial artist!

I love going, not a day goes by where I miss class. I love every second of it. I was brought into trying out to do jiu jitsu and man ever since then, it’s been apart of me now, my life. I guess you got to do it and see for yourself. Nonetheless best place to train at hands down. I’m happy to be apart of Checkmat!

Didn't sign up my child because he just didn't seem interested but I got to see a class and was impressed with the instruction as well as the instructor.( nice guy) It was also a very fair rate compared to other places. Based on my limited experience I highly recommend.
