I have nothing but high praise for AHCC. Professor Nuno and assistant coach Donny are amazing with the kids. Classes are thoughtfully put together with a mix of playful exercises and more serious training where the kids are expected to display an uncommon level of discipline for such young kids. The facility itself is kept clean and orderly. There is no shortage of kids, so there’s ample opportunity to train with various skill levels. My son recently entered his first tournament, and he did well in a way that was a testament to how good - despite how much fun the kids have - the training actually is at AHCC. Awesome is the only way to explain the experience at Alamo Heights Combat Club! Nuno Is creating something special at his gym. I was in San Antonio visiting, and he allowed me to drop by not only for the open mat but the next day as well. Even finding time to train and talk jiujitsu with me. We love AHCC for our 5 yo daughter. She has grown so much in strength and confidence from the coaching and community of children, something we weren’t getting out of gymnastics or other organized sports. Her behavior and personality grew, along with her coordination and ability to learn these new skills. The coaching is phenomenal, I don’t think you will find it anywhere else, we love Professor and Coach Donny! They are serious, but take the time to build the rapport needed in order for the young children to trust and listen to them. There are no participation trophies, rather you earn your stripes through hard work, and if you regress, they can be taken away and earned again. I love the discipline of the sport, but also the balance required to make this challenging activity fun and enjoyable for the children to want to come back again and again. I love that my daughter has found something she truly enjoys. Highly recommended!

Fantastic gym. We moved here in 2019 and our kids had previously trained at a Gracie gym before taking some time off to try some other sports. We tried a different gym in San Antonio but found Professor Nuno in summer 2020 just after he had opened the gym. I met with him and immediately decided to enroll the kids, who have been there ever since. Before I even get to the rest of this review, let me say that Atos Combat Club was one of the only places of normalcy for our kids during COVID, and for that, I am forever grateful. The kids are trained well, Professor Nuno has a wonderful, yet firm, teaching style, and our kids have responded well. My youngest has already made the decision that he is eventually going for his black belt. The addition of semi-regular in house tournaments has been a huge hit and gets all the families together to cheer on their kids and eat some great snacks. Professor Nuno also hosts semi-regular events throughout the community. Highly recommended if you are in the area, and even if you are not, come check it out!

This is a great gym to go and train jiujitsu. They have all levels including beginners who are brand new & more advanced competition guys to test your skills on. They are women's co-ed friendly, if you are looking for self defense or a group to stay in shape with I would highly recommend Atos. If anything it's a way to let loose and have fun!

I arrived from San Diego two years ago looking for a BJJ club to continue my BJJ journey with. I tried several places until finally settling at Atos Jiu Jitsu San Antonio with Professor Nuno. From our very first meeting Professor Nuno has demonstrated unrivaled professionalism as a teacher, a mentor, a guide, and through time (on the mat) an honor to call my Professor. Professor Nuno’s second in command and extension of professionalism at Atos Jiu Jitsu San Antonio is Coach Donnie. I have seen my BJJ grow here as well as friends of mine in San Diego. My reasons for joining Atos BJJ, training, and staying. 1 ) I've been training at Atos for almost a year! BJJ is not easy. It's humbling. You're paradoxically not as tough and tougher than you think you are. The attrition rate is hard won. You must be in touch with that innate part of you that wants to fight. There is nothing static about this type of fitness. BJJ unifies mind, body and spirit. Each rolling session connects you to the historical lineage passed down from individuals who developed this art form. First through combat then through sport. 2) I'm more confident. This mindset positively carries over into my life outside the gym! 3) BJJ only begins to reveal itself as a human chess game with more time on the mat. It's like a game of decoding. Every sparring match is like trying to unlock a level. You attempt the level again and again until something new unlocks. The rewards are harder to come by. The pressure test of sparring reveals the type of inward monologue you have. Underneath all of the friendly competition is the innate understanding that the moves you are practicing are actually life and death. Being in touch with this aspect of humanity puts reality into a different perspective! 4) I developed bonds with my training partners. I met the most grounded people who genuinely appreciate my presence and efforts on the mat. Likewise, I appreciate theirs. 5) Respect is paramount. How could it not be when learning an art form that can be used to incapacitate a person? 6) Professor Nuno is dedicated to the practice. He demonstrated his mastery and passion in competition and through the community he's built. It's important that your teacher lives, breathes and eats the art form. The high standard he demanded of himself is now set as a bar for you to achieve. His teaching reflects the quality of every teacher he studied under. If anything I said resonates with you, visit Atos. A year from now you will have wished you started today.

This studio is excellent for instruction and burning off energy. My two children love the ability and availability for activity. Professor Nuno provides the right level of firmness and balances it with fun so the kids don’t burn out and are looking forward to the next instance of instruction. The location is easy to find, parking is ample, as are the individual space for changing and showering. The studio is spacious and clean. Ambience is very much like a school, the kids learn to respect their school, it’s studio, and their professor. Will continue to enjoy watching my kids growing here.

Atos has been an amazing journey for my kids. Six months in starting from ground zero, my boys have taken a leap forward and learned so much from Professor Nuno. He is outstanding with all the children. He pushes them when they need it (and Lord knows my 5 year old needs it) and truly cares for each child there. Aside from training and more importantly, they’ve learned respect, control and how to follow instruction. ATOS San Antonio is genuinely the best place to take your kids (and even more so if you’re an adult) to jiujitsu. We visited a couple other gyms in town prior to choosing this one & it’s by far the cleanest, brightest, spacious, and welcoming. Professor Nuno is an excellent instructor. He truly encompasses all the great qualities of a good teacher: patient, respectful, motivating, helpful, transformational, and has ridiculously witty sense of humor. Three out of four of our family members attend this gym and we couldn’t be happier. We spend a lot of time here. Nuno is incredibly great with kids. Our 8 and 5 year old adore and respect Nuno, tremendously. They listen to him and know that his teaching will help them get better each time. After seeing how much our boys enjoyed it, I decided to join. As a female in her 30’s, profesor Nuno has been extremely patient and has taught me a lot about my strength, strength I had no idea existed inside of me. Top notch, integrity, grit, discipline and perseverance.. all words I would use to describe ATOS San Antonio. After years of never properly healing/ rehabbing previous weak ankles, shins, and feet I unfortunately had a gnarly injury.. during my recovery time Nuno and my teammates frequently checked in to see how I was doing. This community cares about your BJJ growth as much as they do your personal growth. Your training partners will push you and encourage you. If you’re debating whether you should attend even just one class… do it. I promise you will not regret it I look forward to returning to ATOS once my feet and ankles are stronger than ever.. hopefully sooner than later!

Disappointing Experience and Disrespectful Treatment at Jiu-Jitsu Gym. My wife and I visited this gym seeking information, and our experience was extremely negative. The treatment we received from the owner and instructor was dismissive and arrogant. Despite the fact that we were merely passing through and not dressed formally, his behavior towards us was classist and at times seemed to have racist undertones. We felt judged and undervalued, which does not reflect the professionalism expected at such establishments. The instructor not only treated us disrespectfully, but also displayed inappropriate behavior towards others during our visit. He consistently mentioned the economic status of those frequenting his gym, making us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. A year later, now practicing jiu-jitsu elsewhere, I can confirm that the instructor's attitude does not meet the standards of professionalism and respect that I have found in other academies. This experience left a very bad taste in our mouths, and I would definitely not recommend this place to anyone looking for a respectful and professional environment in their jiu-jitsu practice.
