Me and my husband visited this academy from VA. We felt very welcomed by both students and Professor Yamasaki. The instruction was top notch. Professor spent one-on-one time with us while drilling the technique. I had a shoulder injury. He was caring and made sure that students were aware of it while rolling with me. I highly recommend this place whether you are visiting or looking for an academy to join.

The instructors are great with kids. Our experience is still great. My son now knows the basics on how to defend himself from a bully if that ever happens. A sense of security.

Great gym with a very welcoming culture. Fernando is a top instructor in the area and one of maybe 200 or less BJJ coral belts on the planet. Training with him and the other talented students at Yamasaki Academy has helped my jiu jitsu immeasurably. It's also a great location - next to the Twinbrook metro stop with plenty of free parking.

Everyone is friendly and classes are excellent. You'd be hard pressed to find a better place for gi jiu-jitsu.

Fernando Yamasaki is a world class instructor, competitor and human. The level is very high, the students range from beginner to high level, and the place is pretty big. You have dozen's black belt, if you want a real Brazilian Jiu Jitsu school, it's one of the best in the area.

I loved training here. The community atmosphere is amazing. People are very nice and supportive. Coming from no background in BJJ, I felt welcomed and encouraged. Fernando and his instructors are world class. I highly recommend.

Yamasaki Rockville is simply an awesome place to train, in my opinion its easily one of the best gyms in the United states. You'll find all types of people from all walks of life training here. Don't be surprised to see several black belts in a class along with a plethora of brown and purple belts. And to top it off, people at the gym are extremely friendly and always willing to help. It's an absolutely amazing place to train whether you're experienced or just beginning.

I have trained at a few schools. This is by far the best. High level instructors and great people. My 6 year old daughter just started. She loves Yamasaki. She loves the instructors and team mates. I drive 45 min to get here. Its worth every second of the drive PLUS I get to spend more time with my daughter.

I have been in a lot of dojos over my 30 years in Japanese jiujitsu. Yamazaki academy is the best I have seen in years. Good people to train, everyone is very respectful.

My partner and I trained here for some time in 2014-2017 (Muay Thai for me, BJJ for him). Muay Thai: great instruction. Coaches are great. Lots of seminars, and opportunities to train for fights (I never/will never do that...) That being said, it’s a great place to train if you’re looking for fights, AND if you’re NOT looking for a fight. And everyone plays nice, and if someone is going too hard, they’re very receptive to communication and they go easy (protect your tummies, ladies!). BJJ: from what I saw (and experienced in some classes), very good instruction when it’s led by a black or brown belt. Sometimes random crazy techniques were shown but my inability to understand them was very much linked to my lack of BJJ training. Family atmosphere- kids everywhere! Ever seen a mini samurai? Want to? They are everywhere at this dojo (so. Freaking. Cute.). The only con with this dojo (from our experience) is the inflexibility with the payment arrangements. I was spending one month in the states/one month out, and I would have preferred a more flexible payment arrangement. On a related note: when ending your membership (due to moving away etc or anything) make sure to let them know wayyyy in advance, because whomever is in charge of the membership payments is very stingy and WILL jip you for every last penny they can get you for. This happened to both of us (we ended memberships at different times, a year or so apart from one another). Overall, great experience (being cheap with the money is the bad taste left in the mouth).

I attended a few Muay Thai classes here while I was in the area and it was great. The instructors are attentive and helpful, the environment is friendly, and they cater to all skill levels. I highly recommend them!

The best BJJ instruction in the area. Yamasaki has a great combination of both competitive and recreational practitioners. On top of that, they have a welcoming family friendly atmosphere. I highly recommend this gym.

Everything is fine and dandy till you want to cancel your membership then they will throw all kinds of costs and procedure to make it as difficult as possible. It does not matter we have been a member for 7 years. They are trying to get the last few dollars out of you. Their website says you can cancel at any time but what they actually mean is that you can cancel but you are still liable for the full year of membership, unlike any other gym we have ever been a member of, very deceptive business practice.
