If you're looking for a gym that offers more than just world-class Brazilian Jiu Jitsu training, Waza is the place for you. From high-level upper belts to competitors and world champions, the talent here is unmatched. But what truly sets Waza apart is the inclusive environment they've created for everyone--from kids just starting out to adults looking to challenge themselves. For me, Waza is so much more than a gym. It's my home. It's the keystone habit that has helped me build a healthier lifestyle and focus on longevity. Eight years ago, at the age of 31, I entered a 13-16 month long-term residential program to address life-controlling issues. Since then, Waza has been instrumental in helping me stay on track. Through the discipline I've learned here, I've been able to handle challenging situations at work while building my own company, approach my days with clarity, and finish them with a sense of accomplishment. The friendships and teammates I've gained here have been invaluable--they constantly push me to grow, both on and off the mats. What stands out the most is how much they support people like me, without judgment, and with a sense of community that's hard to find anywhere else. Thank you, Waza, for all the support and for giving me a place to thrive. If you're considering joining, don't hesitate. This is more than just a gym--it's a family.

Waza Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Elk Grove, CA, is an absolute gem! My home gym is in Pasadena, CA, but my family road-tripped to Sacramento to visit my wife’s parents. My 4-year-old daughter just started BJJ about four months ago, so I Googled gyms in Sacramento for young kids. Waza was the only BJJ gym I found that offered classes for 4-year-olds with a wide schedule, making it super convenient for families. The kids' class was fantastic—fun, engaging, and structured to teach both discipline and basic techniques in a supportive environment. My daughter loved it and can’t stop talking about how much fun she had! I was also able to jump into an adult class while we were there. The instruction was top-notch, with a great balance of technique, drilling, and rolling. Everyone was welcoming, and it felt like I was training at my home gym. The facility is clean and well-organized, and the atmosphere is super family-friendly. If you're looking for Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Elk Grove with options for both kids and adults, Waza is the place to go. Highly recommended for anyone visiting the area or looking for a gym to call home!

Great school, and overall great people! I’m writing a review because not asked, but simply sharing my experience there! I highly recommend signing up here at Waza! The coaches, Derek, Damian, Shawn, shilo, Chris Leonard to name a few! Really helped me with my journey with Waza, lastly can’t forget han! Just wanted to say that I’m delighted but sad at the same time! If I wasn’t relocating to another state, i truthfully wouldn’t see me training anywhere but at Waza! Damian wright huge shout out for believing in a brotha! And helping me on and off the mat and being a great mentor in this jiu jitsu game! Just want to say to all there present and future this place rocks! I’ll never forget the memories and when I come in to town I know I got an excellent place! Again a lot of great schools in Sacramento/Elk Grove areas however Waza, is the school I chose do to the no egos!!! Again thank you guys!!! Waza 4 life!

From what I understand, Waza BJJ is 1 of the 2 original Bjj academy's here in Elk Grove. I joined in September of 2021 and it was one of the best decisions I've made in life. Jiujitsu, in and of itself, is the perfect outlet for the everyday stressors of life. But mind you, this is NOT fight club. More so, it is a place where people go to help each other get better. Speaking of helping each other, I want to talk about the Vibe of this Academy: nothing but open and welcoming arms. There are no "gate keepers", you'll be met with a smile, if it's your first time here, and you'll continue to be greeted the same way every time you show up. When respect is given, respect is earned. It is truly humbling to learn the broad strokes, and the intricacies of the "Ground Game." And you'll love every step of the way. You'll be shown the ropes by our cadre of coaches, lead by Derek DiManno (owner and head coach). You'll have plenty of training partners to choose from. And please don't hesitate to ask questions, or to ask for a roll, or to drill a sequence or technique, or to "go light" or flow roll, and don't hesitate to respectfully decline either. No shade will be thrown, just all respect. As for the Little Samurai's, Junior 1's and Junior 2's; these classes provide a safe, fun, and challenging environment for the kiddos to develop confidence, self respect, and respect for others. It's amazing to see the progression of the little ones, guided by Coach John and Coach Chris. Also, The class schedule of Waza BJJ probably has the most accessible in the Sacramento region. For the kiddos, there is: -A little Samurai class M-Th (two classes on Tu/Th) -A Junior 1s and 2s class M-F (no-gi Friday) For Adults: -0530 OPEN MAT M-F -0630 Class M/W/F -1100 Class (Code 3/First Responders) -1200 Class M-Th (no-gi Thursday) -1200 OPEN MAT Fri -1830 Class M-F (1800 start time on Friday) -1915 Class Fri (Women Only) -1000 OPEN MAT Sat -0900 OPEN MAT Sun Plenty of opportunities to make it to class! And this is coming from a busy father of 3. I'm just saying...If you had a choice between taking up Golf as a new hobby, or taking up Jiujitsu....choose Jiujitsu! It's way more fun, and way cheaper lol. And come to Waza!

A fantastic kids program and an unbelievable staff. Jonny the youth class instructor and black belt is truly a kid whisperer. It can be so difficult to capture their attention but he makes it look low-key easy. Their studio on Elk Grove Boulevard next to I-5 is top notch, always sparkling clean. If you’re an early a.m. type there is a 530 open mat. Adult classes daily after 5pm. Can’t really say enough about the environment and culture Derek Dimanno has set up here. You won’t be disappointed.
