I dropped in for a 6am class while traveling. The drop in was coordinated via text message with the number on the website. I was greeted at the door and everyone was really friendly. The facility was large and clean. Sam, who was teaching that morning was very polite, and I felt safe rolling with everyone regardless of their level. They were all good people. Great experience and I would highly recommend!

I've been to a few BJJ gyms and Vitor Shaolin is amazing! Super friendly staff and classes here are top notch. I've learned so much and super excited to learn more! Can't recommend enough!
The staff and instructors at this studio are absolutely amazing. They are so skilled and patient in teaching children and instilling in them self-reliance and discipline. The studio itself is impeccably clean and comfortable. We are so happy we found VSBJJA!
What this BJJ Academy has done for not only myself but for my son has been unbelievable. They not only have instilled confidence, structure, and discipline in my son, but confidence as well. Shaolin and Andre love kids and it’s clear to see. They care about your kid and how they progress even on bad days. As for myself, an Army veteran. It has given me back that drive that I missed. My son and I bond through this experience and it is one that I would highly reccomend to anyone looking into this.

I’ve been going to VSBJJ for about a month now and I could not be more pleased with my experience. I had never trained bjj before and was intimidated about signing up. From day 1, the staff has been incredibly welcoming and encouraging (as have the other more experienced students). Professors Shaolin and Andre are incredible coaches and practitioners and it’s really an honor to be able to start my bjj journey learning from them. I can’t wait for classes and lessons during the week and I look forward to training and learning here from the best in the business for months and years to come.

Only 30 days in so far as a white belt, and love every second I get to train. Federico, Gabriel, Andrei, and Vitor Shaolin definitely are great professors who helped me thus far. I hope this detailed review helps convince you to join Vitor BJJ. If you are new or haven't done much gym work before. Get ready because they training is as intense as you make it. You definitely got to start slow because your body won't be used to it. However, the instructors motivate and teach constantly step by step. They are dedicated to helping you reach your goals. This isn't a race, this is bjj and sometimes it takes time for the body to adapt. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for proper training in Brazilian Jiu-jitsu. They have multiple class times and help you with what results you looking to achieve. Hope to see you there!
This Jiu Jitsu Academy goes above and beyond to make you feel comfortable in learning these new skills and in being part of their family! As a 55yr old woman I was extremely nervous and intimidated to try something new. All I can say is that it has been an empowering experience so far, and it is all due to the excellent teachers there as well as their upper-level students. The teamwork is incredible!
My son has been coming for a year and a half and my wife and I together for about a month so we’ve had the benefit of experiencing the staff as observers and students. Having several years experience in martial arts I know how schools are supposed to be run and this is one of the most well equipped in terms of clean and sanitary training areas and knowledgeable coaches. McDojos are abound in this day and age - but the lineages of Shaolin and Professor Andre are easily traceable and the quality is apparent in the instruction for both children and adults.
After speaking with a friend, we decided to enroll our 5 year old son in their program. We are so thrilled with our decision. Everyone is incredibly kind. They are so engaging with their instruction and teach fantastic life skills along the way. We would highly recommend them!

Absolutely amazing school. My son has been going for two years and absolutely loves it. I never would have thought I would be interested in bjj myself, buy Vitor Shaolin started women's defense class that has been great as a physical activity, but also increased my confedence. This is not just a school, but a community filled with positive encouragement for kids and adults.
My 10yo attends the Youth program. Facility is spacious and clean. Instructors are amazing. They really focus on their students during the class. They instill good principals in the kids. During free sparring the kids always shake hands and act respectfully to one another. Highly recommend.

I am glad we went with VSBJJA for our kid. This has been a very positive experience by every measure. The instructors are very professional, knowledgable, and friendly. And The Legend Vitor teaches some classes himself. The facilities are clean, modern, safe, and family friendly. This is top level BJJ being taught at this academy for both adults and kids, yet they still manage to make it fun for the kids. Hats off to VSBJJA!!!

This is an awesome school and BJJ environment. Its a family based and run business. Vitor and Jana are very involved in the day to day activities. Vitor Shaolin is a very well known and respected BJJ and MMA Champion, athlete and fighter. I have been at the school for over a year. Before going to this school I was at Renzo Gracie Newark since 2016. My children love going. I have a 10 year old who loves his classes. My 2 girls 6 and 5 went to their first class yesterday and loved it. Professor Andres is also an integral part of my super positive view on the school and its curriculum. They are all on the same page. They provide an online service for more help with your jiu jitsu journey, learnbjjj.com. If you are hesitant to go to a jiu jitsu school for yourself or for your kids I can relate, but this is a place where the people in charge set a tone for mutual respect and care for the new ones. For me is an honor to be tought by these guys.

My experience with VSBJJA has been nothing but extremely positive. The community and atmosphere is amazing. Obviously, the instruction is world-class - you are learning from champions with decades of experience competing and instructing. It's pretty impressive to watch these instructors (with an absurdly deep understanding of all aspects of BJJ) communicate concepts clearly to every level of student. Not many people can do that. And, the new facility in NJ is beautiful and state of the art. Challenging, inspiring, motivating, mentally and physically beneficial, fun, and impressive - VSBJJA is all of that.
I started my daughter 11 at the time at VSBJJA a little over a year ago. Vitor, Andre and the staff have provided an excellent atmosphere of confidence building, discipline and respect. The coaching is world class. My daughter continues to learn great tools that help her in all areas of her life. Physically and mentally. She has also made a great host of friends. It has been an overall great experience in so many ways. The grand opening of the new location is also a great thing to be a part of for the whole Shaolin family. It is a beautiful facility. Highly recommend VSBJJ for any age.

Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is a great martial art for all ages, and getting to practice at Victor Shaolin Academy was a perfect choice. They are very professional, the place is beautiful and believe me, it smells sooo good :) My 10 year old daugther and her cousin have found an awsome place to practice. After visiting various places around my area, we decided that Vitor Shaolin was the academy to introduce Jiu-jitsu to my daughter. The facility is very clean, instructors are always encouraging the kids to do their best. They are very friendly and kind, coming up with extra activities for the kids to interact with each other. I'm glad that after all the searching and trying we found a place with very committed instructors in a very warm environment. For those curious about prices....they are very reasonable, classes are 1 hour but they can run longer (this is how committed these people are) they train hard...this is not a Playground

My daughters have been practicing BJJ for over 1 year. They have learned so much at VSBJJ. They have made some friends there as well. The instructors Victor and Andre are super professional, keep them engaged and are focused on safety and technique. The coaches go an extra mile to make sure the kids are leaning. Often the classes are extended a little longer so they can answer questions or give individual instructions. I highly recommend this place.

I have been a student with Shaolin Academy for a few years now and with a new location it has only gotten better. Amazing instructors, you are always encouraged to do better, they really care about you improving your skills and your health.

I have trained in multiple martial arts over my life ranging from Japanese jujitsu, judo and karate. This school is by far the best of them. The instructors are excellent when they teach and coach. Wonderful place! The owners are always present and actively involved in their classes. The instructors/coaches are fantastic. At first I was nervous joining Jiu Jitsu because it was intimidating. But starting off, you quickly learn that's not the case at all. Everyone is respectful and kind, especially the instructors. I have never felt safer in an establishment before. While doing Women's Self-defense and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, I find myself feeling strong and apart of a family. I can easily call Shaolin, Jana, Andre, and all the other instructors/students my friends and am forever grateful for all they have given me. Vitor 'Shaolin' Ribeiro and Andre Motta are always helping us improve and make this seemingly intimidating sport, fun and therapeutic. I couldn't be more happier at any other place.
Best gym in the area. Shaolin and Andre run an incredible program and I’m convinced you won’t find better instruction elsewhere. You literally have two legends teaching classes all week long. Even better is the training environment, there is such great camaraderie. Their kids program is super legit as well.

Our daughter came from another school and has been here since June, the teachers are absolutely fantastic. Vitor and Andre are excellent teachers and obvious experts, they have made her transition seamless and have allowed her to just pick up where she left off. They have taught her new and advanced techniques which will allow her to mature in the artform, and have made her feel welcome and an instant member of the team, they are the absolute best! The manager of the school, Jana, is a breath of fresh air! She is so friendly and welcoming, and makes you feel like you have been with them for years, this is an awesome environment for any child who would like to try something new or continue on in the sport!

I came to Shaolin BJJ as a blue belt having trained for almost two years at another school. I was looking for a good training environment after purchasing a home in a new area too far from old academy. Thankfully, I found this place because it’s been an awesome experience thus far. Very welcoming to new students. Shaolin and Andre are great at what they do: teaching! They have beginners classes and all level classes as well. They work with you no matter experience level, athletic ability, etc. A great place to take the plunge into the world of BJJ.
The teachers are awesome here. The teachers always greet you with a handshake and a smile as you enter the door. The high level of instruction can't be matched in the area. You can see this by the amount of upper level belts that transferred to train here.

I began training here a little of 2 years ago and it has been such a positive addition to my life. The facility is great, the schedule is accommodating the training is outstanding and the people you train with are very supportive regardless of your skill level. Shaolin is one of the best BJJ practitioners in the world and that would be enough but he's such a good teacher of the sport. I enjoy every minute on the mat with him and Mike.
To have a man that can be an incredible professor, friend, and leader of his pack like Shaolin is an honor and a privelege. The team is literally like a family that makes life worth living. Mike and Sam, the brown belts under Shaolin, continue his legacy and are amazing teachers and role models in their own right. I am thankful every day for them all.
