Me and my family dropped in at this dojo and were warmly welcomed by the instructors. Really appreciated the great effort of integrating us into their usual routine. Thank you!
Posted 1 year agoGreat teachers and students. I've been to two classes so far... Already feel accepted as a fellow student even though I'm fairly new to Jiu-Jitsu/BJJ. If you want to train Jiu-Jitsu... Come visit The Foundry. Update: 17+ months and still happy! Lots of great instructors and good teaching for new folks. Another update: I've now been here for 4 years, still training jiu-jitsu, still a great school, super clean, the mats are kept clean. Still great people, great training, great facility
Posted 1 year agoI have been a member for several years. My whole family joined having no experience. The children's class is great. My son and daughter both love it and the teacher of the kids class is very good with the kids, he is patient, but firm when needed. My wife was very nervous about joining but quickly settled in as there are several women who have made her feel very welcome in class. They have also recently added a women's only class that she loves! I love class as well. There are lots of guys who are very proactive about including me in training and rolling. The foundry has different teachers on different nights who each have their own style. When i have missed class and see other class members around town, they always ask if things are ok, tell me they missed me in class, and encourage me to make sure i get back to class. The camaraderie and discipline make it totally worth going.
Great academy, welcoming people. I was in the Farmington area, visiting family, and dropped in to the Foundry for my son to take the kids class and for me to take an adult class. The instructors were great and the other students were friendly with a good range of skill and sizes. I definitely recommend The Foundry for people in the Farmington area looking to improve their BJJ game.
Great group. Dropped in on a Friday night. Very welcoming, good skill! Thanks Seth for the quick reply! Thanks Joshua and the the group for the rounds!
Great people, great rolls, and great atmosphere. I’d recommend checking out foundry Bjj.
Was in the area for a week and stopped by for a couple of classes. Everyone here is exceptionally friendly and welcoming. No egos or newcomer bullying, very in depth instruction, and overall just a fun training environment. Also super clean 🤙
I was visiting from out of town one summer night. Really nice and welcoming bunch of people, and a clean, attractive little gym. No egos. Jay taught good fundamental techniques, gave ample time to drill. Good rolls after class. Mats are on a floating floor, so judo guys feel extra welcome.🥋🙃
My favorite place to be, and an amazing school to train at. Seth, Jay, Josh, and Mike are a wealth of knowledge and ensure folks learn at their own pace in a community atmosphere. I'm very lucky to have found such an awesome group to start my BJJ training with.
This place has a spectacular community of people that could not be more kind or helpful. Jay is a fantastic teacher and human being, that reads the students incredibly well, and makes the sport approachable to the newcomer, and expansive to the more advanced. His enthusiasm is contagious, and is reflected in everyone that attends. Very welcoming environment, and a wonderful group of people to surround yourself with.
What a great BJJ club! Seth and all the members were extremely friendly. I was in the area and stopped in for a workout. The club is extremely clean and accommodating. The rolls had great energy without going overboard. Will definitely visit again when I’m in the area.
Great place with a great group of people. Everyone was super welcoming and made it a fun experience. I’d recommend the foundry to anyone interested in bjj.
During a trip to Maine, I attended a few sessions at this gym. I have visited 5-6 gyms previously which helps put things in perspective. I really enjoyed the atmosphere. The gym was clean, the people were friendly, and the classes were well taught and fun. I spoke and met with three of the coaches. They were excellent. I highly recommend this gym, and I am glad to find BJJ being taught in rural Maine.
The Foundry is a great place for beginners to start learning BJJ. Take it from me, I've been there a month and a half and have learned so much! And yet, there is still so much to learn... Fantastic instructors as well! Jay, Seth and Josh are all great at what they do!
I visited and trained an evening at The Foundry BJJ while staying in the area from out of state. Everyone was very friendly and Seth’s instruction was excellent! Highly recommend this gym!

I dropped in while travelling to get back on the mats. This place is a clean, fun and incredibly inviting learning environment. Class was great and everyone from the coach to the students were very welcoming.
Amazing BJJ gym. I always have a great time! Our kid also loves it. Shawn does such a great job with the kids class. All of the instructors are awesome.
A wonderful place to train wether your competing or not competing, the environment is always welcoming along with
Very welcoming group. Felt comfortable from day one. Instruction is broken down well and questions always answered. Instructors are top notch and make class/workouts challenging and fun. Would highly recommend checking out a class.
Highly recommend! Shawn is a patient, knowledgeable coach. My son's look forward to working with kids of different skill sets each week and enjoy learning new moves from coaches. Friendly welcoming environment. (Farmington BJJ)
The Foundry is a special place, full of good people and great training.
I have been training at The Foundry Bjj for around 8 1/2 years now and recently earned my rank of brown belt. The Foundry offers great classes awesome instructors and hig level Jiu Jitsu. I highly recommend trying here. The gym is full of ego less humans who are willing to help each other grow on and off the mats. We are truly like a family. It's a great team to be apart of.
Family is everything...I have been taking classes with The Foundry for awhile. My 8 year old son also is also a student. What I love about The Foundry is the family environment...I instantly felt like a part of the team from day one. Seth was very helpful in getting us setup and was very welcoming. It had been 20 years since I was an active JuJitsu student...I felt totally comfortable being new. I had experiences with both Sensei Josh and Sensei Seth...both are exceptional teachers. It also speaks to the type of people that are attracted to The Foundry...every student I met had an awesome positive energy and were very welcoming. Regardless of your experience, this place is the right fit. The youth experience is also off the charts awesome. Sensei Shawn is one of the best teachers I have witnessed. My son is learning a ton...but he's also learning discipline...he's a wild one! Ha! Sensei Shawn has done an amazing job with helping become a better listener with holding him accountable to his behavior while also being a great encourager. It has also been a great father/son bonding experience. We commute from Dixfield and have lined up our classes to be on the same day. It is dedicated time for us both to learn something and have time together. I can't recommend this place enough for both adults and kids.
The only world class Jiu jitsu gym in Maine! Some of the kindest, most professional, and most knowledgeable martial artists I’ve ever met. Seth and his crew of instructors make the Foundry a welcoming environment for people of all kinds. It’s not called the Foundry Family for nothing! Whether you’re a seasoned martial artist, an elite level athlete, or someone who’s never done so much as a jumping Jack, you’ll be treated with respect and taken care of as part of the family.
I come up to Maine every year sometimes a couple times a year. Seth (the owner) and Jay (the coach) made me feel welcome and helped out tremendously with creating an excellent training environment. The mats are very clean and they have spring to them. The people there were top notch all around and super friendly. I’m a purple belt and the lower belts had a student mentality of absorbing information and really caring. This place is special! I have trained at many gyms throughout the country and the foundry is definitely one of the best. Excellent job you guys! 5 stars all the way around and I look forward to coming back.
The Foundry Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has changed my life and the lives of many others I know. Great instruction in effective self-defense techniques from the world's greatest martial art. Top-notch instructors and a welcoming environment that makes you feel like family.
Some of the best folks around. Instructors know their stuff. If you want to learn BJJ or get in really great shape, give the Foundry a try. You won't be disappointed.
I can’t say enough about this school. The atmosphere is open and playful while still maintaining a focus on improving everyone’s skill in BJJ. The instructors have a desire to grow and adapt their own BJJ to give students a more rounded modern game. If your considering trying BJJ I can think of no better option.
Top notch BJJ with the most welcoming people.
my children really enjoy this and their instructor is great.
