This school is an amazing place to train. I’ve trained for over 13 years. I’ve trained at many different schools over the year. The base has been such a great experience. They are so professional, and absolutely a dream to work with. Signing up was super easy. Also, when some unforeseen events happened and I had to cancel my membership, that only took one text. It was so nice because I’ve had some really bad experiences canceling memberships with other schools in the past. I would highly recommend The Base to anyone and everyone that is interested in the grappling arts. 10 out of 10 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I signed one of my sons up for BJJ here a couple years ago because I wanted him to know how to defend himself. Well, with how nice the people here are, I ended up befriending the owner, Chris, multiple other coaches and parents, and joined myself last year. I also had my youngest son join us and now all 3 of us train on a regular basis. The boys are even doing wrestling classes here now, too.
The Base has become a second home for us - each coach truly cares about each class and takes their time making sure new people know what we're training. And, I've met some of the best people locally that I can call friends. Don't hesitate to join if you've been thinking about it!
Drop in friendly!
I was in town for a wedding and dropped in for the Sunday fundamentals and open training. Class was fun, the coaches were awesome, and the members were very friendly. Highly recommend.
Great coaches, the students will go far here with their training.
*update* class sizes are huge now. I’m worried that the training quality will diminish with the huge class size. Even with 3 coaches. Although there are male and female classes for adults there doesn’t seem to be a class just for the girls or boys. A discount for multiple kids ? I would love to be able to afford it.
My son has been going here for a few years and he loves it, the coach’s are super nice and welcoming good for every age group. My son says that it’s really easy to understand the coaches instruction.
Last winter I slipped on a patch of ice at work. I would have been very badly injured if I hadn't been training how to fall safely here.
Everyone I've met at this gym has been fantastic to be around. There's no bad attitudes here.
I've lost a lot of weight and gained a lot of flexibility since I started training here. I can tie my shoes comfortably now. I recommend this gym to any fitness or skill level.
I joined here about 6 months ago after taking a ~4 year break from jiujitsu. I feel really grateful to be able to train again and love being a part of this gym. The Base has lots of options for classes all throughout the day, great coaches, and a friendly, encouraging atmosphere in the gym. Thank you Chris and coaches for making The Base a great place to be.
I have visited The Base Vancouver a couple of times coming down from The Base Longview. This facility is amazing, the coaches are very knowledgeable and inspiring. You won’t regret training with The Base Vancouver.
The community is amazing with a vast amount of knowledge and experience. Everyone is extremely welcoming. The sense of camaraderie is apparent the second you step into the door.
We send all 3 of our kids here and have been coming for over a year now. All of the coaches are kind and amazing. We are so thankful we found this community.
My son and I have trained at The Base Vancouver for a year and a half. Chris has created a great program and atmosphere not only for their kid's programs but the adult programs as well. The coaching staff is top-tier. I highly recommend checking them out if you are interested in jiu-jitsu/judo/wrestling/suples for your kids or yourself.
The space is awesome, and the instructors are kind, knowledgeable, and so welcoming! BJJ is a great athletic outlet, especially for former high school/college athletes looking for some direction in life. The Base is the spot to find that direction and rekindle that competitive fire
The people here are so nice that I was surprised at first. One year in, I know that it's completely genuine. This place has excellent adult, kids, and women's programs that I would recommend to anybody - whether as a hobbyist or as a competitor. Professor Chris and his wife have built an incredibly awesome environment here.
This gym is incredible! It’s become a second home over the past 4 years. Coaches are world class competitors with passion to share. Can’t say enough good things about this place. If your looking to make a healthy change in your life, this is one that can easily become addictive.
I've been training here for a couple of years now and it's still fantastic. The instructors are top notch, the facilities are spacious (and even being upgraded), and the environment is welcoming to everyone. There are fundamentals classes, advanced classes, competition classes, and everything in between. Come train.
Easily, the most family friendly, positively spirited, centrally located jujitsu training academy in Vancouver. If you’re looking to learn technique, get in shape and make a ton of friends, come join us. I love this place and the people in it. Peace, love and jujitsu! EVT
You won't find a better place to train jiu jitsu in the entire Portland Metro Area. Hands down. Top tier instruction and a very welcoming environment for men, women, and children at levels.
My son and I have been going to The Base for ~6 months and have been really enjoying the process. Between the facilities, coaches and staff we got really lucky finding this as our home gym. Great culture all around.
If you are a beginner like me who has no grappling skills and want to get into Brazilian Jiu Jitsu I highly recommend this place. What impresses me the most is how the coaches are not only highly skilled, but they are great teachers no matter what your level is. I am now addicted thanks to the coaches and culture. Absolutely love this place!
I joined The Base having zero grappling experience or knowledge about jiu jitsu and 6 years later couldn’t be more grateful to have found such a great community to be a part of! Chris and Nikala put their all into the gym and it’s clearly reflected in the culture. They also have highly experienced coaches as well as regularly host world champions for seminars / training. I feel so lucky to have found the base and would recommend it to anyone looking to start / continue their bjj journey!
Great atmosphere for the entire family. Myself, my wife and kids all train here. Several classes 7-days a week. What are you waiting for? Sign up today!
I just started jiu-jitsu a month ago and I really enjoy it. I wish I started 10 years ago. Great culture and good work out. I hope I continue to go multiple times a week. The schedule is very flexible which is really nice for someone who works night shift. Everyone is also very nice and willing to help .
This place is really special. The facilities are spacious and the mats are always clean, the instructors are fantastic at what they do and incredibly generous with their time and patience. You'll have great training partners and an overall feeling of positivity when you come here. I used to train in judo and danzanryu jiu-jitsu years ago and one of my previous instructors passed away and the circumstances of that left me very shook up to say the least and I couldn't bring myself to go into a dojo and train for 10 years. I finally chose to get back out there and I couldn't be happier with my choice of school, this is a great place to learn and I feel like I have a part of myself back that I wasn't sure was still there. You won't just get exercise here, you will get alot out of the sport for your mentality as well. Thank you guys for everything you've done just making me feel welcome, it means alot to me.

Hands down one of the best Jiu-Jitsu gyms in the NW. whether you are someone looking to compete, someone who is a hobbyist, or someone who is just beginning their journey, this is the place for you. The level of detail Chris teaches in his curriculum is unmatched. What’s even more impressive is he goes out, competes in high level tournaments, and consistently dominates with the very same techniques he teaches. If you’re thinking about checking this place out, do it. You won’t be disappointed. Friendly folks, great atmosphere.
This is an excellent gym. The community is welcoming and the instructors are knowledgeable and patient. The schedule is great for working parents, and it’s a great place to train.
I've been training at The Base for just under two years, now, and it has had a profoundly positive effect on my life. It is a community of practitioners at every level of skill, from those who have just stepped foot on the mat and have no background in martial arts or athletics, to those who have been steeped in the culture for decades. The diversity in skill and familiarity with the art is matched by that of the backgrounds of those who train at the gym. The number of languages spoken, countries that those who train have visited or were born in, the type of work and educational backgrounds - they are all so varied, and when they're combined on the mat they produce a broad cross section of humanity striving to improve themselves and that is hard to not be inspired by.
There is no getting lost at this gym as someone is always there to advise or help in some way when you need it. Jiu Jitsu is an immensely challenging task, but one that is tremendously rewarding, and with the proper kind of guidance that you will find at this gym, you will have a clear path to proficiency and to achieving your goals. The Base is a community, a place to test yourself, and a respite in many ways from the mundane and abstract details that run so much of our modern lives. It is a present-centered activity that, with the wisdom and skill attained by the hard training and enthusiastic practitioners at the gym, will be an engine of personal growth for anyone willing to put in the effort.
I was nervous to join, but I'm so happy that I did. It's humbling in the best way possible. There's always something to learn, which was initially overwhelming, but now I'm just more and more in awe of how cool this sport is. The coaches are all so knowledgeable and attentive, and it's such a welcoming community.
Amazing community and coaches that cultivate learning and growth in BJJ, Judo, wrestling and Suples training. A good fit for not only advanced athletes but also for the beginners. Great women's program!
Super welcoming atmosphere, top shelf coaching/instruction, and a schedule that accommodates almost any schedule. The Base is the top academy in the area!
Can’t say enough good things about this gym. The owner and professor of the Base Vancouver provides top notch training with the best instructors and practitioners from the gym. There are classes available for all ages, skill level and at all different times 7 days a week! Along with two separate mat spaces for grappling there is also a complete gym with top of the line Rouge equipment for your strength and conditioning needs. The members at this gym are the most kind and welcoming group of people I’ve met. Whether you’re looking to start a new skill/hobby, join an elite team of grapplers or become a part of a growing community, this is the gym for you.
My daughter has travel and trained all over the country and calls The Base home.
I have seen many gyms and and coaches and none have ever held themselves to as high of a standard as Professor Dealy and his gym.
Super clean well equipped gym with top notch instructors. There’s a solid, welcoming community that’s also invested in your success, whatever your goals may be. The Jiu jitsu program is amazingly fun and effective, and training will also benefit many other aspects of your life. It completely changed mine for the better. Finding a grappling school is easy, finding one that treats its students like family and produces outstanding results on the regular is unique. This is the way. Come train.
The Base Vancouver has everything you need to develop into a more healthier version of yourself. It is a big community of like-minded individuals who are looking for a great family environment. There are classes seven days a week with various times that can fit any schedule. I highly recommend it!
I have been training jiu jitsu for almost a decade now. At The Base for 3 years. The environment/culture that Chris and Nikala have created here is second to none. You would be hard pressed to find a gym with more families training under one roof. Whether you are just looking to get up and get moving or compete at a high level, The Base has something for everyone and is the most inviting gym in the Northwest.
State of the art facility, courteous staff and coaches, family friendly environment, terrific martial arts instruction. The Base Vancouver is top notch!
Great place! My son has been taking Jiu Jitsu here for a few months and I'm always so impressed with the instructors, they really take the time to work with each kid and build their skills.
If I could rate higher than 5 stars, I would. I began training at the Base through their Suples program, which has helped me grow not only my strength, but my confidence overall. The coaches are incredibly knowledgeable, and are truly invested in their student's progress. Over time, I felt confident enough to take the leap into the jiu jitsu program, and I'm so glad I did! Coming in with zero martial arts experience, this was a big step for me. I was welcomed, encouraged, and have found so much comraderie through training.
As a busy parent, it's amazing to have so many opportunities to train offered each day. There are so many classes offered, literally from dawn till dusk. You won't find a better academy.
This is my 1st time doing jujitsu and this place is very welcoming. The staff is knowledgeable and I really enjoyed my classes here thus far. If you're interested as a first timer I highly suggest this place.
I've been training here ~3 times per week for ~1.5yrs, and it's been great. I want to become highly technical and effective at grappling over the course of years. I feel very confident that training consistently with these guys will get me there.
There's a bjj gym much closer to my house, but I ride my bike an extra 6 miles to The Base Vancouver because:
- huge main mat and high ceilings--an extra mat was added recently too, so there's even more mat space now. Both mats have garage doors by them that are opened on nice days too so you get a nice breeze while you're rolling.
- owner of the gym is obsessed with jiu jitsu and does a good job of keeping up to date with modern jiu jitsu and passing it onto the students
- plenty of good technical grapplers to train with who often do very well in competitions
- ^ those grapplers are willing to teach me what they know. Note that many of them are significantly lighter than me, so it's even more assurance that it's their techniques that are beating me, not merely brute strength/cardio. Very motivating and inspiring.
- lots of class options
- exercise area with everything needed to get a thorough full body workout: squat racks, pull up bars, bench
I've been training for two months and can honestly say joining The Base Vancouver is one of the best decisions I've ever made for my physical and mental health. The coaches are all amazing (especially Coach Dave and Coach Joe) and the culture is one of inclusiveness that promotes learning and personal growth. I look forward to continuing my Brazilian Jiu Jitsu journey here for many years to come.
The base is fantastic.
The atmosphere and community that have been, and continue to be to be fostered there is something every business and community needs to strive for.
I've been there for just under a year. I feel that,
The instructors all love what they are teaching and you can feel the passion in class,
The instructors are all easily approachable and care for your growth.
With a great range of fitness equipment, and classes running 7 days a week there are plenty of opportunities to train.
Its a great family environment too!
I am graftul for the base and the opportunities I have to train there.
Hope to see you there!
I have been extremely impressed with the skills and confidence my grandson has gained since starting Jiu Jitsu. The coaches have differing approaches to educating the kids which is great as not everyone learns the same way. Our family highly recommends!
This is the best martial arts club in the area, hands down! Whereas in many places you will be asked to ‘pick two days’ and a 30-minute lesson could easily last only 25 minutes, at The Base you are given carte blanche with as many lessons as you want, very passionate and friendly coaches, and a great community! If you want to start any martial arts, whether it is a competitive approach or a more relaxed one just for health and confidence, look no further! Try it and I bet you are going to like it :)
I recently joined the base to start my Jiu jitsu journey and I was nervous cause I didn’t have previous experience in this sport but instructors are very knowledgeable and are very eager to teach you and guide you through everything, everyone in the gym is super cool and also willing to help the new people like me. If you want to start your journey and researching a gym to start the base is the place to go.
Have been training here for around the last 3 and a half years, the coaches are bar none. Instruction is extraordinary and you can tell the amount of love and time that go into this space. A must if you, friends or family are wanting to try something new, learn self defense or just get some excercise with some amazing people. It's really a home away from home.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I joined The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym in 2015 and I must say, it has been an incredible experience! This place is so much more than just a gym—it's a community that fosters growth, positivity, and overall well-being. I can't help but rave about their exceptional kids program and the diverse range of classes they offer.
First and foremost, let's talk about their kids program. If you're a parent looking for a safe and engaging environment for your little ones, you've come to the right place. The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym has truly nailed it with their kids program. The instructors are highly skilled, patient, and create an atmosphere that promotes learning and fun. They make sure to teach important life skills such as discipline, respect, and self-confidence, all while making it an enjoyable experience for the kids. As a parent, nothing brings me greater joy than seeing my child excited about going to their Jiu-Jitsu classes. Kudos to the amazing team at The Base for their dedication to empowering our young ones!
Beyond the exceptional kids program, The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym offers a wide array of classes that cater to various interests and fitness levels. One standout aspect is their full-service approach, which includes not only Jiu-Jitsu but also Personal Strength Training, Yoga, and Suples classes. It's refreshing to have access to such a versatile range of services under one roof. The yoga classes are rejuvenating and help foster balance and flexibility, while the Suples classes provide an intense full-body workout that pushes my limits. This comprehensive offering truly sets The Base apart from other gyms in the area.
The facility itself is top-notch, equipped with modern and well-maintained training equipment. The staff members are friendly, knowledgeable, and always ready to assist and guide you on your fitness journey. The gym is always clean and organized, which adds to the overall positive experience.
The sense of community at The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym is remarkable. The members and instructors create an inclusive and supportive environment, making everyone feel welcome and motivated. It's inspiring to train alongside individuals who share a passion for martial arts and fitness.
In conclusion, I cannot recommend The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym enough. Their outstanding kids program, combined with their full-service approach that includes Strength Training, Yoga, and Suples classes, makes this place a true gem. Whether you're looking to enroll your child in a fantastic martial arts program or seeking a well-rounded fitness experience for yourself, The Base is the place to be. Take the leap and join this remarkable community—I promise you won't regret it!
Disclaimer: This review is based on my personal experience and reflects my honest opinion of The Base Vancouver Jiu-Jitsu gym.
The base is a great place to train! They have classes anyone on their jiu jitsu journey and offer great up to date techniques! Most importantly though, this place is much more than just a gym, they really treat you like family here and are welcoming! Cheers to the Dealy family for creating such an awesome space!
I have been attending classes here for about a month and a half, their staff is very professional and extremely helpful. The facility is very nice with a good assortment of workout equipment. As far as the classes are concerned there are so many to choose from at all times of the day, you'd be hard pressed to find a time you couldn't attend a class during the week.
I look forward to continuing training here. 10/10
Great instructors and a fantastic place for yourself and family to learn the art of jiu jitsu. Many adult and kids classes to choose from. Whether you want to train in the early AM, afternoon, or evening, there is plenty of opportunity to learn the skill. My kids also love being involved in the wrestling program.
Jiu jitsu is for everyone, as long as your ready to learn. Coaches at this gym will truly change your life, and the community it unmatched. If you want to train jiu jitsu, Judo, wrestling and more this is your place too
Loved training at this place. I'm a busy graduate student and could only train sporadically, but Chris and all the folks there treated me like family. The instruction is well organized. Good amount of mat space that is cleaned frequently. Bonus is that they have a great conditioning/strength setup too: Rogue lifting racks, kettlebells, Bulgarian bags, fancy cardio stuff (curved treadmill, rowing).
Great atmosphere for adults and kids. Cannot beat the coaches, teammates, or schedule. Classes 7 days a week. Jiu Jitsu, wrestling, Judo, yoga and Suples. Can’t recommend it highly enough!
A fantastic gym with a fantastic community. If you're a journeyman grappler or never stepped into a martial arts school before, the coaches and the owner will always be welcoming.
Hands down the best jiu jitsu academy in Vancouver. Professor Chris and his coaches are world class. They are genuinely great people that have a wealth of knowledge. Whether you’re just getting into jiu jitsu for self-defense or competition or maybe your kid wants to try it out, do yourself a favor and drop in for a class!
Great gym for people looking to get into grappling. Super cool and friendly coaches and staff, clean facility, and super supportive and welcoming environment. If you're looking to get into bjj, come check this place out.
Multiple class times to choose from including early morning, lunch and evening. High quality instructors that not only teach the content but also care about you as a person. Wonderful members of the gym who are extremely helpful. Great environment and a clean gym with every detail taken into consideration.
I've been training here for 2 years now. Transferred in from another gym and I can honestly say I have felt welcomed from day 1. Professor Dealy and the whole team are awesome people. Great instruction and a great atmosphere. Plan on training here for many years to come.
Great coaching and very welcoming to both beginners and seasoned practitioners. Lots of class times to choose from 7 days a week. Could not recommend enough.
My sons have trained here for nearly a year. I have witnessed development not only in their grappling ability, but also in their strength, conditioning, and balance. They have begun to compete and have had great success, which had encouraged them and validated all of their hard work. Their confidence is through the roof, which has actually made them more kind, gentle, and thoughtful, as well as far less fearful to take on new challenges.
The effect on my boys was so positive, I began training there myself. I was hesitant because of some past injuries, health concerns, and generally having allowed my body to become weak and heavy from a sedentary lifestyle. My concerns were unnecessary. I have been encouraged to challenge myself, but never pressured to do anything I was uncomfortable with due to physical limitation.
If you're looking for a place for your kids to train, the environment is excellent. The coaches emphasize respect and discipline in a way that is supportive and compassionate to the students.
If you're an adult looking to train, you'll find a great variety of positive people to roll with, coaches who are helpful and encouraging, and a Professor in Chris Dealy who is a truly dedicated martial artist, an active competitor, and has a deep commitment to precision and excellence.
So come train with us!
