Minjas (7-9yr) class usually has 4 or more trainers where all the students get personal feed back. The Saturday competition training class has students that a very dedicated to learning the sport and smaller class size. Great school!

My son has been a student of Emerge for over a year now. He has grown in his self control, has gained confidence in himself and truly enjoys attending class. As a parent, I like that multiple adults and older kids are on the mats ensuring they are properly learning the skill. One thing I would love and it would be life changing for all parents with small children tagging along: is a small area for younger children to have access a few toys. As a parent of a toddler who wants to join in on the mat, I don’t get to enter the building much unless I can find a sitter for him. He’s a screamer and when we go read books in the front, I still don’t get to view. Outside of wishing to watch my oldest we are glad to be apart of the emerge family.
My daughter has been going to Emerge for about a year now. The coaches are very knowledgeable and create a great learning environment. The facility is clean, has seating for parents and is very family friendly. Our original goal was for her to learn self defense, but she has learned so much more. My daughter went from being very shy, not wanting to try new things and giving up before she starts to confident and will keep trying until she gets it. My husband and I have seen such a positive impact that we both found new employers to make sure at least one of us is available to take her to class. Highly recommend!

My son just joined and I couldn't be happier. The coaches really pay attention to what the kids are doing, and what they need. I really enjoy how the team interacts with the everyone. The more experienced kids are great at teaching the younger/newer kids what to do. Very pleased!
Kingston had a great time! The instructor Brian did an amazing job with the kids. I love that it's faith based and very affordable. The gym was very clean and smelled fresh! There were multiple instructors walking around and assisting the kids individually which I thought was amazing. I'm so happy I found this place for my son!
My girls attend classes in all different age ranges. They’ve gained so much self confidence, respect, and teamwork. The coaches are all so skilled, patient, and passionate about what they do. The Emerge team has become more to us than just a gym, but a community and a family. The new facility gives the children and all others much more room to practice and grow. My kids are learning their bodies and their limits and their strengths and their struggles. They are additionally learning respect and social skills and what a commitment is. All of this aside from the intended purpose of the classes: defense skills. We will recommend Emerge every time. The instructors are patient and encouraging with both our neurodivergent teen and other neurotypical, yet shy, youth. They are an overflowing cup of subject knowledge, overall. Large mat, clean showers, restrooms and changing rooms. Gorgeous natural lighting. They also offer sport massages which is a service we've never used but it's nice that it's there. I do wish there were later weekday youth classes but that's quite literally my only, very minor, gripe.
My son started here about four months ago, and he loves it. Coaches are very knowledgeable in the art, very helpful, keep all the kids engaged and having fun during training, great motivators, and very respectful. I got my grandson enrolled and he loves it! He was 14, new to the state, homeschooling, and basically bored. I was worried he'd be hesitant about going because when he tried a new sport before, the kids were competitive in a snarky way and just not kind. That experience made me realize that in order to make a quality program complete with a "vibe" of cooperation and kindness, a lot rests on the coaches and staff. Emerge apparently has what it takes to maintain a positive culture and instill good sportsmanship as well as quality teaching in its participants.
The coaches and team at Emerge Jiu Jitsu quite literally saved my life. I was met with amazing role models for any person, but especially for a young adult like myself as well as welcoming spirits all around. The best decision I made in Vancouver was finally working up the courage to call and schedule a free trial class. I recommend everyone to do the same, your future self will thank you!! I recently had to move states and the gyms I've tried in my new state can't quite compare to the legitimacy of the training, let alone the welcoming environment at Emerge. Great gym, good energy, solid fundamentals. I enrolled my son, who is seven because they have quite a large kids group, which is what I needed for him. I decided to do a drop in open mat for myself. I was extremely welcomed, everybody is kind, they took it easy on me, but everyone had solid fundamentals, excellent rolls. Went home. Took a shower, eat a large bowl of soup now I’m about to fall asleep on the couch. This is a great gym to learn BJJ.
Just had my first lesson. It was a very inviting and friendly atmosphere. The more advanced practitioners were patient, helpful, and encouraging. The instructor explained things very well.
I have been training with Don and his trainers for about a month now. The team is very welcoming and extremely helpful and talented. Emerge offers a free class with a rental gi, come give it a shot.
My son has tried several sports and never found one that he was excited about until we found Emerge. Just in the short time we have been here I have seen a jurassic change in his self esteem/confidence. I would highly recommend Emerge for anyone that is looking to better their self control, self esteem and confidence in one self.
Surprised my partner with a private BJJ lesson and couldn’t have been happier with the experience. Kaitlyn & Matthew are great instructors. They were able to show us (we did the session together) some good techniques (like rolling, the shrimp, and how to get out of a pin), taught us how to maneuver safely and didn’t feel like totally novices in over our heads. If you’re thinking about branching out and trying something new… I definitely recommend Emerge. Oh and they let me borrow a Gi 👌
It's been close to 10 years since I trained jujitsu, everyone was really friendly and willing to help get me back on track, shout out to Mat! I recommend anyone looking for a gym to train at to give Emerge a try and see for yourself. I doubt you'll be disappointed.
This was our girl’s free trial class. To say she loved it is a huge understatement. The instructors were fabulous; made her feel welcome by empowering all the students to be part of welcoming and helping as they could. She was super encouraged after having been nervous about not knowing what to expect at all. I can tell the investment in the students to be respectful and upstanding goes beyond just class time. A+ from this mama.
I started out in this gym with a trail day to get a feel. I thought the instructors were able to help me learn so i came in when i could and i enjoyed training here a lot. Its hard work but i also grew a bit from it. For someone who knew very little about bjj its a great place. would recommend to give this place a shot as a solid option if your looking into bjj gyms.
This place is great. I’ve been to a lot of martial arts schools in my life and Emerge is most professional I’ve ever been to. The staff is helpful, patient and knowledgeable. Excellent! I highly recommend this school for anyone considering bjj for the first time, or a seasoned veteran to the art. There's a welcoming environment and the dedication to each phase of a successful school is palpable. After starting by enrolling my 5 year old daughter, I've since began training and even got my mom--who is in her 60s, to also enroll in the women's self defense...3 happy generations. Emerge has a good mix of men and women, a lot of kids, and is a place where many bring the whole family.
We love Emerge Jiu Jitsu. My 6year old has been going for about a month has has already become a completely different kid. More coordinated. More confident. And has more self discipline and respect for himself and others. Every day is challenging for him and he walks away with sense of accomplishment. The staff and team of coaches are great at working with the kids no matter where’s they’re at in their experience. Can’t say enough!
My daughter has never found a sport that she enjoyed enough to stick with it. Since she started at Emerge, she can't get enough of it. She attends 3-4 times a week and is always excited when she comes home to share whatever she has learned. She has grown in confidence and feels she is better prepared to defend herself if needed. Don and Jennifer have built a very supportive atmosphere.

Emerge has been a great experience for us. It gives me the exercise and defense I'm looking for and the exercise and competition that my husband is looking for. They are family oriented as well, so anyone with kids will love their kid program as well!

This is the first gym I’ve ever joined and my experience has been great! I’m about 20 classes in and I can say that everyone is consistently kind and willing to help each other progress as a team. It’s very motivational and I can admit that I’ve become addicted to wanting to learn more and get better with each class. The environment is better than I was imagining before joining and I’m very glad I chose this gym. 10/10 highly recommend.
My 13 year old daughter absolutely looks forward to and enjoys her practices at Emerge. it brings her physical exercise, confidence and most of all, a since of belonging. In our culture today, this is exactly what she needs. from what I have observed, the instructors are kind, inclusive and give beginners the attention they need to fit in.

I was in Portland for a week, and only Emerge Jiu jitsu that allowed visitors to do drop-in. I went there for a couple classes, and rolled with several people. Overall, the atmosphere was great, and everyone was pretty nice and friendly. I highly recommend to check them out if you're in the area. Thanks Don & Jen for the hospitality!

I have been incredibly happy with the instruction that I, and my kids, have receive at Emerge. It is a comfortable atmosphere without any pressure to perform. Coach Don and Coach Matthew are always encouraging, and they maintain a respectful and welcoming attitude within the gym.
I've been attending just over a year. The culture is very family oriented in mannerisms, and there's a lot of attention given to each person. The coaches and upper belts are top notch providing great instruction, and when it's time to spar or "roll", they're formidable and challenging. Competing isn't required, but highly encouraged. They will help you get to where you want to be, if you truly want to get there. Show up and try a class out to see if it fits you.

A fantastic family BJJ gym that provides an inviting and friendly atmosphere for learning about Jiu Jitsu. The owners are involved every day with training in a variety of classes for all ages and skill levels. I have been going here for several months now since moving into the area and plan to keep attending classes for the foreseeable future.
My experience at Emerge has been wonderful. As a woman with no martial arts background this has been a safe, encouraging place to learn. The staff is so patient and friendly. The facilities are CLEAN, no stinky gym smells here. I am officially hooked!

My 6year old son has been training at Emerge Jiu Jitsu for over 6months now and I was so impressed by the art and the gentle, genuine instruction and consistent encouragement here that I decided to start training along side my son as well as in the adult classes. I couldn't be more happy with Don and his family and the way they have helped my son grow in discipline, mental and physical health, and self esteem. Since beginning his training my wife and I have noticed considerable changes in his behavior, focus, and desire to learn in his homeschooling as well. Don is the best coach. He KNOWS his stuff... and he’s able to TEACH it. The most patient man— kind, completely approachable... and still able to wrangle even the crazy little ones, and build these complex martial arts skills. More importantly... my daughters LOVE this sport. They’re learning valuable skills of self-defense, but it’s not an intimidating grind— they view it as FUN. They love showing up for practice, and both Coach Don and Coach Matthew (also awesome!) are one-in-a-million. (Or rather, TWO-in-TWO-million).
Fantastic gym. Coach Don is very approachable, and his BJJ experience is extensive. The environment is serious enough for advanced students, and provides lots of help and input for the beginners as well. Great practice, great place, great people!
Not sure where to start, I have done Jiu Jitsu on and off for 2 years now. Taking a break from it was a big mistake, and the race to find a new Jiu Jitsu home was a long one. When I tried Emerge, I knew it would be a place I'd anchor in. It is another family for me. Coach Don and his family are all around great human beings and I cant say enough great things about them. Its a safe, clean atmosphere that is welcoming which is rare at most gyms. Coach Don is a great, patient instructor whose advice is tangible. Coach Jeff has been an outstanding instructor both on and off the mat. Emerge is a church for me, it humbles the ego and really helps with the battles and struggles life brings. If you are reading this and on the fence as I once was a long time ago, just take the leap and come in and try it out. Its a lifestyle that will change you and Emerge is the place to do it!
We love it here! I appreciate that not only are our kids learning jiu-jitsu, but they are gaining confidence, discipline and strength. Coach Don and Matthew are amazing with the kids, and have a wonderful balance of encouragement and firmness. Kids are expected learn the skills taught, and to also become good teammates. My 12 year old son absolutely LOVES learning Jiu Jitsu at Emerge!! Instructor Don is phenomenal. Physical activity isn't my boy's favorite thing in the world, so it is wonderful to see him work on moves he learned in class at home. The parent area is comfortably set up and I have enjoyed getting some work done on the laptop while he's in class, so it's a win-win for both of us!
I just started classes at Emerge and am loving the family friendly environment. I can't wait till the next class and what I will learn from both Coach Don and Matthew in the many months to come! The class was great and the instructors/coaches were very patient, kind, and super informative! We've known Don Cooper and his family for years and he is one of the very few men that I would completely trust my girl's with. I'm so impressed with what I've seen that I'm signing our whole family up! What a great way to learn self defense, discipline, and to condition and tone our bodies! Oh, and they are Christian, praying before and after class!
