My sons have trained with other BJJ Professors in the past and by far, Professor Maajid is the best. He makes sure that each child learns and perfects every technique. He doesn’t waste time babying his students; he is caring and teaches discipline. I love his style of teaching and my sons have learned so much. I highly recommend Team Mongoose BJJ and am very grateful that we found Professor Maajid.

When I was contemplating learning Jiu Jitsu at 47 years old, I was uncertain if there was a place for me - thankfully my uncertainty was put to rest the moment I walked in the door and met Professor Maajid Al-Kush. After 2 weeks of classes 3-4x a week, I cannot express how humbling, welcoming and rewarding this experience has been. From Instructors to students of all levels, I was welcomed with open arms. There are no bad attitudes here - everyone helps everyone progress with patience and enthusiasm. The availability of evening and afternoon classes is a huge bonus as well. If you’re considering learning BJJ, this is THE place. It’s hard work but each class is rewarding and addictive. Do it!! UPDATE : 10/18/24 - Almost Two years later and about 6 months away from turning 50 years old, I can confidently say that joining Team Mongoose was one of the best choices I’ve made in my adult life. So thankful to Professor Maajid and the entire Team Mongoose FAMILY. Show up, do the work and life gets better inside and outside of Team Mongoose.

Went in for a free intro class, and was met with a diverse group of folks and a clearly very committed instructor in Professor Maajid. For a free class, I was very impressed! I was immediately integrated into the group as they went over some basics, as well as a few interesting ground techniques. My sparring partner, who was a purple belt, was instructive and helpful. What I was very pleased to see was Professor Maajid integrating Judo into each sparring bout, with an emphasis on practicality and distinguishing sport from application. I was eagerly invited back. With my other interest in horses, we'll see if I can fit another hobby in, but I would recommend them to anyone looking to explore a practical, technical martial art. Expect a workout.

I really enjoy going to this gym. It’s not too crowded but enough people to get different styles when rolling. Also, the professors takes the time to spend with each student to make sure they are really improving their craft and excelling. But you gotta show up for it to work! Ous!

A few months ago I signed my daughter up for class. After watching her for a month or so, I decided I was going to give it a try. It wasn’t long before my daughter and I started talking about BJJ. It’s really fun to learn something with a loved one. It has contributed to hours of conversations with us geeking out on techniques but more importantly lets us really understand each other. What comes easy, what is difficult. Everyone at Team Mongoose is accepting and more than willing to help you out. Professor Maajid has created an incredible atmosphere. We feel like we belong to something bigger. Everyone cares about everyone and really want each other to succeed. On a more personal note of how joining Team Mongoose has effected me. I am/was a person who listened to my ego. So I had a really over inflated view of myself and my abilities. It didn’t take long before I realized I am not who I used to be. I can’t do what I thought I could. But I could see all around me people doing the very things I want to do. It became very clear to me at this point that all hope was not lost. All I need to do is show up and get to work. Professor Maajid has the blue print. He’s making me an all around better person. He showed me I’m not who I thought I was, but better yet, has also showed me I can be. It’s really hard to explain to someone how much you know they are helping you, so I simply thank Professor Maajid after every practice. If you are even a little interested, you should sign up. It will be the best decision you can make for yourself. If you have a child, sign them up.

I am so grateful that I mustered up the courage to walk into this place! It was intimidating being the only girl that day but Professor Maajid was nothing but friendly, welcoming and positive. He has a gift for teaching and making even the most complex sequence of moves seem so simple and intuitive. His teachings go beyond martial arts as he offers real life guidance and advice. All the members in the gym are so respectful, helpful and friendly.. I'm totally hooked and look forward to class, no matter how sore and tired I may be the next day!!

Peace! I’m a “littermate” of Professor Maajid and received my Black-belt along side him in 2009 under the tutelage and mastership of Romero “Jacare” Cavalcante the leader of Alliance Jiu jitsu Academy. I’ve had the pleasure to witness every stage of Professor Maajid’s journey and evolution as a martial artist. In fact, I also knew him before we started Jiu-Jitsu and he practiced American boxing and Kung-Fu of which he was a fine student of! Just as he was and is a very excellent student of the martial arts he is as a teacher. Professor Maajid’s schools have been amongst the cleanest I’ve ever visited, the most disciplined, and well mannered by not only himself, but his staff and students…PERIOD. The attention paid by him to the children students of his is remarkable! If you’re looking for a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school or self-defense school for you and yours look no further; this is it!

So glad we found Team Mongoose! My 5yr old has tried a bunch of sports but nothing has really clicked for him in terms of staying interested. Common for younger kids. BJJ has opened a whole new world of confidence, sportsmanship and respect for our son. Professor Maajid and his coaches are amazing with the kids. From day 1 our son was immediately included and felt like part of the team. The Professor clearly takes time to make sure the new kids feel welcome. They even spend individual time with the new students to make sure they are successful. Can't wait to see how he keeps growing with his fellow teammates.

A mutual friend connected me to Professor Maajid and recommended Team Mongoose BJJ for my seven-year old son and, afterward, the Professor welcomed us to a trial class. A quick search will highlight where the Professor and Team Mongoose stand in terms of reputation - they are among the best of the best. Once you watch how they operate, you’ll be hooked. We are only a few months in but we love it. In addition to my son’s classes, I recently benefited from a group workshop the Professor conducted. He taught our group a number of self defense techniques and, again, watching the Professor do what he does is awesome (even if you’re on the receiving end :) I look forward to joining my son and the Professor and his team myself for training soon.

Team Mongoose is a group of practitioners that exhibits an authentic and genuine display of respect for the craft as taught by Professor Maajid. They say, you'll know a tree by its fruit; in the case of Team Mongoose, it is evident that from the top down, excellence is demanded and established through a humble posture. And when dealing with such a high intense sport such as BJJ, that is exactly the kind of environment you want to be in if you aim to learn.

We were looking for an activity to put our son (12) in that would teach him how to defend himself but at the same time expand/back up what we were teaching at home in regards to respect, confidence, discipline, and how to speak and address ones elders and peers (respect). This is the place! We started in October and there has been a major change in my sons confidence and overall demeanor. I now rarely have to tell him to raise his voice and speak clearly, I no longer have to remind him how to address adults. Those to me are important things! The perk is that I also now have confidence that should my son have to defend himself regardless of child or adult he can! BJJ is well worth my money and I foresee keeping him in until he’s 18 and that he will want to continue on his own (well after we’ve stopped paying for it 😃)

The instructors are very knowledgeable as a 3rd degree black belt instructor for adults and two purple belt instructors for the kids. They also have black belt judo instructors come in weekly. His mission is clear: Making training accessible for everyone in the community despite age, size, and experience. He has seen it all first hand. Injuries, championship medals, multi fight one night tournaments, bloodshed, cage fights, you name it. Through it all his passion remained. I began my jiu jitsu journey May of 2016 under Professor Majiid ( @mongoose_jiujitsu_ )and it was hands down one of the best decisions of my life. He helped me to understand the cerebral and unconscious aspect of the art early on. Of course I didn’t retain 97% of what he taught but he stuck with me until I began to retain the info. I earned my blue belt under him in May of 2017. It gave me a new confidence. Yes, I’ve been a victim of bullying for many years in the past because of my size. A staggering 5’5 160lbs doesn’t necessarily scream “Come at me bro!”☺️. That fear of being picked on by the drunk guy in the bar or the big dude walking around looking for a fight is no longer there. I can’t beat everyone by any means but I can finally hold my own in the face of an altercation but I’ve learned to try to avoid them at all cost through his teachings. He helped me grow and practice a healthier lifestyle. His patience is unmatched and his ability to help you create your own tactics on the mat is top notch. He has stuck with me through the periods I was not able to train and all. Whether you’re a 6 year old girl, 19 year old transgender or a 50 year old man, Professor Majiid welcomes each and every one of you to Mongoose Jiu Jitsu with open arms and a loving heart. I’ve watched the kids dog pile on him after a tough Saturday morning class simply because they have so much fun learning the art. He is a true inspiration not only as a professor but as a leader. The journey has only begun. Keep rolling everyone and hopefully you’ll find your way to the mats of Mongoose Jiu Jitsu in Lawrenceville,Georgia.
