I love this place. I came across with it by coincidence and I am glad I joined. Yukito and the rest of the community are welcoming, kind and always receive you with a smile. The lessons are super helpful, everything is clean, and it is a great way to get a workout. Highly recommended 😊
Awesome place with super cool coaches and people! Went in on Saturday morning for their open mat and everyone was very welcoming. Gym was very clean and inviting as well! 10/10 recommend.
Studio86 is the place to train!! Super high level instruction and technical training partners. No nonsense, good training. Coach Yukito is the man!
I can't recommend Studio86 Jiu Jitsu enough! From the moment you step onto the mats, you're greeted with a warm, welcoming community and a top-notch instructor, Yukito, who truly knows his stuff. Whether you're a complete beginner or a seasoned practitioner, this is the place to train. Coach Yukito has an incredible ability to break down techniques into clear, easy-to-understand steps, making even the most complex moves feel accessible. He also fosters an environment of mutual respect and support, where everyone—from first-timers to black belts—feels valued and encouraged. The gym itself has a strong emphasis on hygiene and safety. You can tell they care about maintaining a clean, professional space. The community here is equally amazing—no egos, just a group of people passionate about jiu jitsu and helping each other grow. If you're considering trying out jiu jitsu, Studio86 is the perfect place to start your journey. And if you're experienced, you'll appreciate the high-quality instruction and challenging training partners. I feel stronger, more confident, and part of an incredible community thanks to this gym. Highly recommend it to anyone looking to train jiu jitsu in San Francisco.
Yukito creates an environment where you can grasp the fundamentals in a relaxed but effective manner. Loved learning and rolling. Great location, respectful people.
My 12-year-old nephew Aaron was visiting San Francisco for a few weeks, and we were looking for activities for him to engage in. Coach Yukito and Flora welcomed Aaron to the studio; they even invited us to the annual summer picnic where the kids trained right by the Golden Gate Bridge. Aaron had a splendid time at the studio and the picnic. We know because he asked when he can visit San Francisco again and go to the classes. Though our experience was short, it was extremely positive, as we felt warmth and kindness from the owner and instructors. I highly recommend Studio 86 to everyone!
I glance at this place when I stand opposite it on Pacific Avenue waiting for Bus 12 to arrive ; children wrapped in in white kimonos practicing their chops; tutors supervising with a black sash around their kimono. It’s like watching men walking on the moon ; If their teeth get knocked out, there is dental place next to it . Love the architecture of houses around this place
Have been both a regular member and now a frequent drop-in when visiting San Francisco for work. This is a wonderful place, spotlessly clean, and home to a beautiful community. People who are powerful in their expression of kindness, and kind in their expression of force. Head instructor Yukito is a true martial artist, who leads by example and teaches with great patience and understanding, as well as respect for the art’s many styles. He teaches Brazilian Jiujitsu as a sport, as a self defense practice, and as an art in its purest form. For me, Studio86 was the heart of the neighborhood. I hope you enjoy. Two hour sessions, six days a week. Bring water.
Was looking for a place to learn bjj and was referred here by a friend. The community is welcoming and everyone is friendly and inviting. Coach Yukito is patient and informative. Instruction is clear and I was able to learn the basics well. Would recommend for any beginner wanting to start learning the sport. I also noticed the gym is quite active in competing if you are interested in leveling up your competitive game.
Awesome environment and a great place to improve!
Welcoming environment and excellent coaching. Dropped in during a work trip and got some great training in with a super respectful group of athletes. 10/10 would recommend for anybody looking to get a workout in and learn a bit about self defense/jiu jitsu.
Spent a couple weeks in SF and was welcomed by an amazing team of dedicated people. Very competitive but chill mood, great coach and trainings. To sum up thanks a lot to them it was an awesome experience ;)
Was in San Francisco for a conference. Coach Isoda was kind enough to allow me to drop-in for a no-gi class. The gym is clean and well-cared for, and the instruction was excellent. Both the coach and students were all super awesome and welcoming. Had some great rolls. Very appreciative.
My daughter started Jiu-Jitsu here summer 2022. She started it off alright, not showing much interest to be frank. But once she turned 8, everything changed. She shows more interest and is happy at the end of each session. We switched her from once a week lesson to twice a week also. She is proud of what she learns from coaches Yukito and Flora and will demonstrate from time to time, very cute! We are really happy to find this studio. Not only the coaches are great there, but it also has tight community with kids all getting along well.
Great studio! Super friendly people and everyone tries to make each other feel welcomed and be a better person. Would definitely recommend it, great for people new to BJJ!
Coach Yukito is incredibly experienced and made the gym a very welcoming environment. Really enjoyed my time at Studio86 and would recommend to everyone from beginners to more experienced individuals.
I visited this dope gym to train while hanging out in the Bay for a couple days. Amazing hospitality, great technique, and sick rolls. I learned some great gems to take back to my home gym ;). I’d gladly roll here again, and if I ever move to the bay; this would for sure be my home gym.
Great professor. Great instruction. Cool people and a very chill and welcoming atmosphere.
What an incredible workout! I am a beginner to Jiu Jitsu and felt very comfortable attending training at Studio86! Coach Yukito provided clear instructions to introduce me to the techniques and the regulars were extremely friendly and welcoming. I had a lot of fun in this class while getting the best workout I've had in years.
Yukito always paid close attention to everyone’s technique and created a welcoming environment. Fun place to train!
Had a great time at the open mat. Members were really friendly and open for sparing. Sensei Yukito was really kind and open to questions for beginners.
Dropped in for a class and had an awesome time!
Dropped in for a session when I was visiting SF and loved how friendly and welcoming everyone was, great tuition and environment to learn in. Highly recommended and look forward to visiting again soon!
What a friendly team! Everyone was super welcoming at this dojo, even as a drop in. The head instructor was especially approachable. The instruction was top notch and he allowed plenty of time to practice and absorb the technique. If there were any questions he didn’t hesitate to answer them with his wealth of knowledge. The facility was very clean and well taken care of. If you’re in SF, come train!
Studio86 was my first BJJ studio ever and I could not have gone to a better place. I was only in SF and with the studio for a year, but in that short time Coach and my studio friends became my SF family. From Day 1 I felt welcomed with open arms, and Coach & our friends at the studio gave everything a beginner like me could need to get started. Anything that could've made me feel held back--being an amateur, being a woman training martial arts--never even crossed my mind at the studio. Coach is so attentive and makes BJJ so engaging & accessible that I felt I was progressing pretty quickly. It's hard to not try to compare other studios to Studio86, but let's just say it is truly one of a kind. You bet I'm going to come back to visit. Thanks Coach Yukito, OSS!! TLDR; location=100%, training=100%, quality of instruction=100%, flexible open mat & availability=100%, vibes=immaculate
Yukito is an extremely technical instructor and he is there teaching and rolling every class. This gym is fantastic for all skill levels.
Amazing gym! Great community! I’ve been training here for over 2 years, started my bjj journey here and still going strong. There’s a great community aspect here and the instruction and rolls here are top notch!
I was looking to do some training while traveling in San Fransico, I found this awesome gym and I joined them for a open mats! Their team was awesome! Friendly and hospitable. Everyone was very friendly and skillful! I had a blast while there. As a competitive practitioner, there was many other competitive minded athletes to train with and get some very good rounds in. Everyone was very generous with their time and their knowledge. I highly recommend training with this team!
From Montréal to SF. Dropped in for a course! Quickly felt at home ! Generous and attentive teaching, very good vibes ! Will remember that kimura trap takedown ! Thanks Yukito Oss
I joined studio86 in August and has been a fantastic experience. Coach Yukito is very approachable and encourages me to ask questions and provides 1/1 feedback every class. Classmates are very friendly and some of them are at very high level. I would strongly recommend this studio!
I dropped in to Studio 86 for a week of training during my vacation to SF. Yukito's classes were right to the point and were split evenly between positional drilling (1 to 2 techniques with details dropped in throughout) followed by an hour of roll time. I went 4 days out of my 6 day trip! I got pushed for a tough roll from pretty much everyone, I would also add that pretty much everyone had good mat awareness and etiquette. Its clear that Yukito has planned Studio 86 to be a highly inclusive and safe enviroment for anyone at any skill level, gender, background to come out and train, get good, and be part of a very healthy BJJ community. I would for sure come back to train any time I come out to SF. Much thanks Studio 86 squad!
Very nice studio and good training. I traveled from Germany to San Francisco for vacation and needed a place for training. Studio86 was absolutely the right decision for this! :)
Fantastic place to learn jiu jitsu. If you are looking for somewhere to roll and workout, you should definitely check out here!
Great class with a great teacher - I've been going here for a few months and each time I am more confident with my self-defense skills.
The best place to train! Yukito is an amazing coach that takes time with each individual student. His vast knowledge of martial arts got me hooked from day one. If you’re looking for a welcoming, friendly group and a challenging class do yourself a favor and come here
Studio 86 made this BJJ newcomer feel right at home. Yukito spent a lot of time with the beginners to answer any questions/review technique. Highly recommended for all levels of BJJ!
Studio86 is one of the top gyms I've trained at in the past 5 years. This is a great gym for anyone interested or is just starting in their training. Coach Yukito is so knowledgeable about the art and takes the time to really explain the nuances of each position he teaches to everyone in the room. He's also very keen to develop the technical and conceptual layers when demonstrating new moves and situations for all of his students. No judgment or ego at all in the gym, everyone is just there to learn. Can't wait to go back when I'm in town!
I joined studio 86 having previously been to a few sessions at another gym that felt a little hostile at times. I instantly felt welcomed by everyone. Yukito is an exceptional coach with a deep routed history in the art form, he’s created a hard working environment that welcomes all and that instills a real sense of comradery and spirit that pushes everyone forward. If you’re interested in joining to compete the studio also has competitors and is a great place to push yourself. 🤙
Great gym with great people!
Awesome Gym! Full of high performing, ambitious and humble BJJ practitioners. I had pretty much zero experience before coming to studio 86 and from the very beginning the experience has been great. The classes are an ideal mix of warmups, technical drills and a healthy amount of sparing. If you are new to the sport, the coach Yukito will make sure you are comfortable and ensure your experience at the gym is matched to your ability and goals. A BJJ class will without a doubt provide you with the best full body workout you can get. The gym in immaculate and the people are awesome. Whether it's your first time on the mat or you have a decade in you should 1000% check this place out... oss!
I’ve been training here for about 2 years and this is by far the best instruction and training environment I’ve had. Yukito is an incredible coach and cares deeply about his students. That atmosphere is very friendly and inviting, this is the place to train in SF!
Absolutely love this place! Yukito is a fantastic coach, very patient, and generous with his time. Students are very nice, helpful, and the vibe in the studio is very chill. Everyone is focused on getting better and at the same time helping out as much as possible. Also, the studio is spotless! Definitely recommend going here!
Fantastic gym with an incredibly welcoming atmosphere (the best I’ve seen) and super knowledgeable head coach. Strongly recommend to seasoned BJJ practitioners and beginners alike!
Studio86 is an excellent studio/gym and Yukito is an incredible teacher, very patient for a new student like myself, and very knowledgeable. During my time there, it truly felt like a family/community. If you're new to BJJ or looking to sharpen your skills, I highly recommend Studio86 and Yukito!
Was traveling through SF for a few days and was lucky to be able to stop in and train here. Awesome gym, great group of people, fantastic instruction. Can't wait to be back in the area and come back.
Amazing academy with an incredible vibe. Clean, large and extremely skilled.
Wonderful instruction and safe environment.
Great environment, friendly people, and world class instructions. Trained under Yukito for nearly 4 years, and my progress never stops growing.
The studio is super clean. The community is supportive to learning and growth. No matter you are a new person who never tried jiu jitsu before, or a seasoned practitioner, it is a great place to train. Coach just promoted me to purple. Stoked. Osss
I trained with Yukito for about year before moving out of city. I heard he opened up his own place and couldn't wait to stop by when I was back visiting. The new place looks great. Everything is brand new and clean. Yukito has a ton of knowledge and experience for everyone to benefit from. He does a great job of providing individual attention and feedback to improve your technique and game. He's also very welcoming and friendly and that spreads to everyone else in the gym. Stop by and train with a great group of people!
Really good group of training partners here and a very inclusive vibe. Would recommend to anyone looking for a place to train.
Great instructor, great people and an amazing workout. What else do you need from a gym?
Friendly crew and awesome instructor who explains clearly and teaches well for all levels!
Great gym with passionate instruction and friendly environment.
A brand new CLEAN local gym with a skilled and friendly bunch. Enjoying every minute of it.
I've been training BJJ for almost 7 years and with Yukito for 1.5 years and he is one of the best instructors I've had the pleasure of learning from. Passionate, detailed oriented and caring are the words that come to my mind and he is a gold mine of BJJ knowledge - I wouldn't expect anything less from a Lucas Liete blackbelt The gym is situated in a cozy space on Nob Hill and overlooks the Bay Bridge - on a clear day, the view simply cannot be beat. The mats and facilities are clean and fresh. Classes are structured primarily around 3 segments - warmups, technique, followed by situational training/rolling. Whether you're a beginner or a casual practitioner or a competitor looking for some porrada, there's a little bit of everything here. Come through for a class!
Best Brazilian Jiu Jitsu gym in the area. The coach is a legit black belt from Checkmat.
I’ve been training for years at other gyms, taught the same moves and only improved at a snail’s pace. I started at Studio86 and have learned more in the last 3 months than in all my years of training. Concepts over individual moves for sport, self defense, and health. Highly recommend Studio86 and Coach Yukito’s classes.
