South Island BJJ is an excellent gym with knowledgeable instructors, a huge facility, (it's an old school gym!) and a friendly community. Whether you're a beginner or experienced, you'll find the training engaging and rewarding. The gym is always clean and well-maintained, creating a safe environment. The people who train there are friendly, welcoming and dedicated. Overall, I highly recommend South Island BJJ.
Posted 3 years agoThe coaches and members of this club have given our kids such confidence and skills, can’t say enough good things. Also they’ve been very patient and encouraging for a 36 year old with the flexibility of a 2x4…me. If you’re thinking about trying it you won’t regret it!
Posted 1 year agoNot to many BJJ Gyms have the type of culture that you get at South Island. Trust is a big part of that Culture. I've been training there for 2 + years and never had a situation that I felt like I didn't trust anyone. Hank has also created a collaborative learning environment, where we can all learn from each other, this is very important is a sport where people tend not to show all their cards to their team mates. At South Island I feel like people are always willing to teach you everything they know.
Posted 9 years agoMy kids have been going to south island for some time now and it has giBen them much confidence. The instructor are very very good and patient. They are very hands on and teaching the kids confidence, technique, respect and many valuable life skills Would certainly recommend anyone to join... adults included, many of my friends train there and it's a top notch school
Posted 9 years agoMy kids have been attending for at least 6 years, and they absolutely love it! The instructor Hank has the perfect combination of being tough (expecting students to listen and put forth their full effort) without scaring or intimidating the kids. The kids are very motivated to impress him and have learned that hard work has its natural rewards. People are often impressed with how physically fit my children are and I always credit it to their jiu jitsu classes.
