I’m a student at Shinka, and I learn so much on every session. Dave sensei is very patient and extremely knowledgeable. Before training at Shinka, I hadn’t practiced martial arts since I was a child and was nervous about trying Ju Jitsu. When I first visited, Dave’s warm welcome and the friendly atmosphere among training partners immediately put me at ease. I would recommend this dojo to anybody who is looking to build their confidence and those who are interested in learning a new skill set. Shinka Ju Jitsu is also a great environment for families.

Shinka Jujitsu Academy is the perfect place to learn how to defend yourself, grow in confidence, and to improve your physical and mental fitness. Fed up of being intimidated by uncomfortable encounters around the city, I wanted to learn some self-defence and so decided to try Shinka Jujitsu Academy. From the first session, I was immediately made to feel welcome. Instead of walking into the macho, intimidating environment I was worried about (especially as a woman with spaghetti arms!), I was surprised to find a supportive community made up of students of all ages and genders. Dave, or Sensei Dave, uses his decades of jujitsu experience to help students learn and achieve their personal goals- whether it be to compete, gain belts, master self-defence or simply improve their fitness and confidence. Shinka's instructor offers a great blend of discipline, practical training, and patience all packaged with a hint of terrible dad jokes! Thanks to Shinka Jujitsu Academy for helping me gain confidence, as well as improve my asthma and overall fitness! If you want to learn to stand tall, to have the self-confidence to know you can protect yourself, and to have fun whilst doing so, Shinka Jujitsu Academy is the place for you.

Fantastic environment, friendly partners to work with on the mat, lots of techniques to learn alongside discipline and respect and, most of all, Sensei Dave, black belt and third dan, who is a wonderful teacher, very patient and way more than willing to transmit the noble art of Ju-Jitsu to his pupils or anyone open to it. Plus, if you have a kid aged four or above, do not have a second thought and go for it as there are also family sessions available.
