Great place to train! Friendly people, very knowledgeable and always willing to help.
Amazing BJJ. Amazing people. Cannot recommend more.
Second home to me. Every dollar for a membership is worth it. The best place for someone who is focused on work but still has a competitive spirit. Everyone is respectful and helpful. The only place where NoGi Grappling is taught and not everyone are high or arrogant 🙏
I was on a business trip and and came as a walk-in. I was welcomed by Marty, a black belt that led the training. We did two techniques attacking the turtle position, very effective and was well explained and monitored. Sparing part was great, Marty made sure the sparing partners are well matched, no injuries and lots of fun. I really enjoyed training there.
Great place to learn BJJ. Great atmosphere and really helpful and talented instructors.
Great gym to train at. High quality instruction for all levels. Highly recommend whether you’re brand new to BJJ or have years of experience.
Serao Academy is a great place to train. Leo, the head coach, is great and creates a great environment to train. He encourages students to compete and always focuses on fundamentals. I would highly recommend this place to train.
great place to learn Brazilian Jiu-jitsu
Awesome school! My favorite place to train when I visit family in California. Great instructors, clean + well-equipped facility, and awesome teammates.
Dropped in for a BJJ class at Serao academy last week and it was a pleasure training there. The owner and head coach was very knowledgeable, kind and helpful. If you’re around SJ / Mountain View, this is a great place to train!
These guys are great. I was visiting the area for work and they let me drop in (I'm a white belt). Really nice and knowledge instructors + support teachers. All the other members there were also a pleasure to roll + learn from. If I move to the area I'd definitely want to make sure I was close enough to this gym so I could frequent there. Definitely recommend.
Nice people, good instructions, good mix of experienced experts and beginners like me. They offer classes on different times of the day which makes it very flexible. In addition to BJJ, they also teach Kickboxing.
It is always a good time here! Love the professors and community at Serao Academy. I’m constantly impressed by the classes’ ability to teach both novice like myself and advanced students. A few things I appreciate about the academy: - The coaches are truly passionate about teaching and bjj - Classes involve both theory and practice - Classes are serious, but people also make sure to have fun and joke around - Great course booking system. Leo is very responsive to my questions about the membership and classes
Very fun and welcoming environment. Instructors are friendly and professional. Great place to learn!
I’ve been training at Serao Academy since 2017. My daughter (9 years old) and son (6 year old) also train. Only positive feelings! Coaches are amazing (coach Dan is best communicator ive met, chad, Gustavo (world class black belt), Marty. Coach Serao is a black belt who works with kids and adults! Gym strikes a balance between friendly and hard work. So many benefits: great work out, self defense, etc. it’s more than a gym and there is space for everyone regardless of your background. We all come from different backgrounds and we all have become friends. Finally, there are some serious high level Bjj practitioners here so I’m learning a lot.
Great place to learn BJJ!
I was in the area briefly and attended classes for two days. I didn’t have a lot of sparring experience but I still had a great time learning. Everyone was friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. Gustavo, one of the instructors, was great. He rolled with me and gave a lot of explicit and implicit encouragement to me for my Jiu Jitsu journey.
I found the right place to get back to practicing jiu jitsu. I have a lot of fun and they have a lot of wisdom.🥋
Serao Academy is the best place to learn BJJ, Luta and LIFE!
I started BJJ at Serao Academy and I'm so happy and grateful I picked the right place! The first few months aren't easy (you'll work hard and be challenged) but all the instructors and classmates and incredibly supportive and fun and you'll be looking forward to class each day. Then one day you'll realize how far you've come (and how much further you still have to go!). Serao Academy has a place for everyone - hobbyists to pros. Two thumbs up!
Was lucky enough to find Serao Academy when I moved to the bay area a little over 3 years ago. The academy drastically improved my game. There is always tough rolls, a variety of styles to roll with, and Leo spars with all of the students. Unfortunately had to move out of the area and the worst part was leaving Serao Academy. If your looking at schools in the area, you won't find a better one than Serao Academy. Great school and awesome environment.
It is Really hard to find great places to train when you travel around a lot, But I can honestly say finding Serao BJJ was the best part of my travels to MTV. Amazing! training and fellowship and humble professional instruction. Great place to Train!!
I was looking for a place to train for a couple of days while visiting from Maryland. This is a great academy, everyone was very welcoming. The training was superb! I really enjoyed the experience, will definitely visit again.
Great place to learn Jiu Jitsu. Welcoming instructors and students. Definitely worth checking out if you have any interest in learning BJJ. 10/10 would train again.
Serao Academy is excellent! I trained there and so did my young son. We both loved it, and never would have left if not for moving across the country. We’re still searching in our new area for an Academy that offers the same blend of extremely high quality instruction, competitive-yet-always-friendly class mates, and all-around great atmosphere.
Great location and amazing customer service. Leo the own is wonderful and great teacher. Highly recommend.😃👍🏻
Serao academy not only only has a high level of jiu jitsu but also is a fun environment to learn in. It’s an awesome place with great Jiu Jitsu and great people!
Ego free, great instructors and fun times while learning the Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Became my second home.
Super friendly and helpful! As a woman training with mostly men I don’t feel out of place
This place is the best. I have a sound and technical foundation because of the instructors and my training partners. I was hooked after my first class and two years later not one regret.
Fantastic place! Knowledgeable and very friendly instructors in a welcoming and safe environment. Wether you are beginner or advanced they will take good care of you. I can warmly recommend this place to anyone interested in learning jiu jitsu. Go there!!!
When I first took a demo class at Serao Academy about 4 months ago, I felt like the people there we're joking around too much and I'm the kind of guy who takes training pretty seriously, so I thought it might not be the place for me. After a few more weeks there, I realized that even though most people who train at SA are pretty light-hearted and joke around a lot, they still train their asses off. What makes this place unique is that it has this perfect work/fun balance. Even though we all joke around here, there is still a lot of respect shown by everyone, but the respect isn't demanded in a pompous way by instructors and higher belts like I've experienced at other gyms. Leo has cultivated a great environment for everyone, from the weekend warrior to the competitive athlete, SA is the place to learn and practice BJJ. One sport communities I've ever been a part of.
I spent the summer in Mountain View and was looking for a place to train while away from home. I'm glad I decided to try out Serao Academy. It's a great gym with a great atmosphere. Everybody was very welcoming and I felt right at home. I'll be back to visit for sure.
Best place to train jiu jitsu in the bay area! I started at Serao Academy a year ago after moving to Palo Alto. I had trained bjj previously in New York, and it was very easy to join and fit right in. Everyone at the academy is extremely welcoming, from the black belts on down . Leo himself keeps a very relaxed, friendly atmosphere at the gym. Although I say "relaxed" the training is top notch, and the quality of the jiu jitsu is very high. Many of the students are competitors, and regularly medal at the top tourneys. That said, there are also plenty of more casual people at the gym. Leo himself is an ex MMA and BJJ fighter who is extraordinarily skilled. Two of his blackbelts, Roscoe and Chad, also teach classes and are great. They all come at jiu jitsu from different perspectives and the end result is that students get a very well rounded game. There are plenty of gi and nogi classes during the week, and most students train both. Although I don't have kids, Leo offers classes for children, and they are always full. The kids have a great time learning jiu jitsu, and there is plenty of supervision. The facility itself is great. The mat space was recently expanded and there is plenty of room. There are two showers as well to wash off the enormous amount of sweat you will work up training. The gym is also located near several of the major roads in the area, and is easy to get to from any of the surrounding towns - Palo Alto, Mountain View, etc. The plaza where the academy is located has plenty of parking. I strongly recommend that anyone interested in BJJ check out Serao academy. Training here has been one of my most positive experiences in the bay area.
It sounds cliche, but Serao Academy is more than a gym, it becomes family really quickly. Black belt instructors are all extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Introducing a myriad of styles and techniques while making sure each student is getting the attention he/she needs and making the progress they expect. Everyone is very approachable and there has never been a time I have asked for help and it was not offered to me from multiple sources. They train very hard and laugh together even harder. Great school with great people, who will support you fully along your BJJ journey.
My 5-year old has been attending their youth class for eight months now. We're thrilled with the blend of fun and discipline from the teachers. The class is a great combination of fitness, instruction, games, and "rolling" (guided practice wrestling). It also always impresses me how well students of different ages and skill levels are able to work together. My son is having a blast, he's proud of the skills he's building (he shows off his moves to everyone he meets), and he's learning the value of hard work. What could be better? I actually got a little jealous of the fun he was having and started taking classes myself. I'm down two belt sizes in two months!
Solid instruction. Friendly people. Check out their morning classes from 7-8am on Tuesdays to Thursdays.
There is a reason why Serao Academy consistently receives 5 star rating, because it is a top-notch team. Beyond the phenomenal lessons that teach and breakdown sound techniques, it is a friendly and genuine BJJ studio that has a camaraderie atmosphere to it. Everyone from the head instructor (Leo) to the students are passionate and are there to train hard, but also enjoy the time. If you're looking for a great workout, learn some self-defense, make some friends, Serao Academy is the place! I recommend anyone to come by and check it out.
My kid loves it here. Who would have thought Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is fun? Great location too btw Starbucks and all.
I've been training with Leo for almost four years now. He's managed to cultivate an atmosphere that is good for any experience level. New jiu jitsu players get just as much out of the gym as pro fighters do, and the variety in experience means that students can grow over time. It's super welcoming, a great place to train, and a lot of fun. I can't recommend Leo's place enough. COME TRAIN WITH US!
Its hard to describe how great this place is without copying previous reviews but I'll do my best. I trained with Serao Academy over the summer and despite being a beginner the instructors and other classmates were friendly and always made sure to challenge me. Unlike many other big name bjj gyms in the area the owner (Leo) was at nearly every training session that I attended. I look forward to attending when I come back to the area.
There is so much about Serao Academy that has already been said: from the world-class training, to the clean and professional facilities, and the friendly, inviting atmosphere. Yet, still, I feel compelled to try and emphasize the high level of quality that Leopoldo Serao has instilled in his school. It is a place where children can grow to have more confidence, a place where students can learn to defend themselves, a place where fighters can hone their craft, and most importantly-- a place for everyone to discover something more about themselves every day. Yes, Serao Academy will get you in shape, and yes, it is fun every time you go into class, but the things I’ve taken from Serao Academy are visceral: self-discipline, humility, calmness in the face of adversity, and indelible friendships.
Ever since I started training at Serao Academy, I could not have been more pleased. I started training at the old location, nervous to start my first Brazilian Jiu-jitsu class with very little knowledge of how to do anything. I felt lost for the first few classes, but kept coming back to train anyway. I eventually got more and more comfortable from an environment where everyone is accepting of everyone’s background and skill level. All your fellow training partners want to do is improve themselves and help others improve as well. The workout you get is great and different than you would expect, but really fun once you get used to it. The instruction received from the teachers at Serao Academy is done with safety and with great experience. No matter my level at any given point in time, I’ve felt like I’ve had great instruction regarding Brazilian Jiu-jitsu techniques at Serao Academy. The main instructors at the gym all are extremely nice and great at what they do. The gym owner Leopoldo Serao, who is the main instructor at the gym, has always texted me to keep track of when I can come in to train, or if I didn’t show up for a class. Leo really cares about your training progress. If he didn’t, I believe he wouldn’t text me and I also believe that the gym dynamic wouldn’t have such a family element to it. Now that I train at the new location, nothing has changed. The only thing that’s even better is the location and the facilities. There are two very nice bathrooms that even have showers. And the mats, gym in general, and bathrooms are always kept clean. To sum up, I’ve been training at Serao Academy for around two years, and besides it being such a wonderful place to train, it has become a part of my life, and changed my life for the better as well. So don’t hesitate if you are interested! Come on in and try a class for yourself!
I have been to numerous gyms in the area and this one is truly the best. Leopoldo is a wonderful instructor and the classes are full of hard work with just enough goofing off. Leo will not allow people to be out of control and you will be looked after when entering the gym your first few times. My Jiu-jitsu and luta livre have improved tremendously and grappling has become a big part of my life. If you are thinking about coming by don't hesitate! There are plenty of friendly people who try their best to help one another improve their grappling skills.
What are you waiting for?! If you are interested in getting fit and looking forward to going to workouts this is the place for you. Leo runs an excellent school that is challenging, welcoming and a great community. You learn from whomever you are rolling with, everyone is generous with their knowledge. I have been taking classes (go and no-g) almost 3 months and am extremely happy with how much I have learned. Even when I am tired and not interested in exercise I still look forward to going because it is so much fun and the people are great. My only regret is not starting much sooner.
I've been taking bjj classes for 10 months and I really like the place. Great instructors, friendly environment and great students. The atmosphere is very welcoming and everyone is willing to help you. I've done kickboxing classes before and those are really fun and burn a lot of calories too! Planning to go back when my work schedule allows!
Home away from home a great place to move forward in your bjj techniques
