Maxwell is a high-performing yet very beginner-friendly gym, open to everyone. I was treated with a warm welcome and I would recommend this gym to anyone who is trying to get into the sport, looking for a new gym or even passing by.

I can’t say enough about how much Team Maxwell has impacted my life. The gym is so much more than a place to train, it’s a second home where Professor Maxwell creates an incredibly fun and welcoming vibe for everyone. His ability to break down high-level BJJ techniques is unreal, making every class both challenging and rewarding. The camaraderie here is something special; the support and friendliness from everyone have turned this group into a true family. Plus, the kids’ program is absolutely awesome, perfect for anyone with little ones. I’m so grateful to be part of this crew!

Very welcoming and friendly gym, I love the teaching style of the professor here, the adult class is always filled with a lot of great training partners and the kids class is structured really well!

I really enjoy training jui jitsu here. There’s a lot of high IQ jui jitsu here and a very friendly environment for learning. If you’re interested, don’t hesitate to check it out, especially if you’re looking to compete.

I dropped in for the evening class while visiting Sacramento and I had a great time! Professor Terry was very welcoming and provided useful, completion orientated, instruction. While sparring, his students were friendly, respectful, and safe. I highly recommend Team Maxwell and look forward to returning.

Solid Jiu Jitsu School! Sensei Maxwell was professional, friendly, and a very thorough instructor. The facility is well appointed and very clean...and they have showers if I'm not mistaken. Most importantly, the students were extremely welcoming and very well schooled. I was trying to feel my way around and take it slow as one usually does at a new location; the fellas didn't go too hard on me, but there's definitely a lot of skill on that mat. Great experience and I can definitely recommend from my initial encounter.

12th Bjj school in two years…. These guys and girls seem fearless, willing to roll with players who outweigh them by 70 pounds…. The instructor owns the school and seems to specialize in breaking down complex maneuvers into understandable parts. Unfortunately the moves seem to be made for gymnasts which makes sense as half the students seem to be under 14 and have no problem pulling them off. Me? Ahem no.

This place is our home community. My little 8 year old girl is receiving top instruction to be a real champion and fighter. She was wary to start and now it's the most important thing in her life. She is fierce! There are so many high level and gifted students, including some AMAZING girls and young women that my daughter learns from and looks up to. Totally and completely, without reservation recommend.

In town for work for a week, got in two sessions. Was welcomed wholeheartedly and had an excellent experience. The technical instruction is high level, clear, and relevant for competition. From what I can tell, respect, integrity, and humility are all taught here on top of the art itself. There's Judo for the willing and able, and the kids program looks to be fully legit. I grew up doing martial arts, and to see such an effective kids program fills me with admiration for what Terry is doing with this academy. The next time I'm in town I have every intention of dropping in for class. I know I'll learn and be challenged by the ability of the students. I have nothing but good things to say.

Traveling for work, reached out, and was welcomed into the gym by Terry Maxwell. Very inviting atmosphere. Really nice structure from start to finish. I was visiting the Sacramento area for work and had the honor to share the mats with the instructor and students at Team Maxwell BJJ. The atmosphere is very warm and welcoming which made me feel like I was at my home academy. Professor Davin ran a solid warm-up and taught some fantastic technique pointing out finer details. The environment consisted of both men and women (which speaks volumes in itself) and were just a great group. I look forward to training here again when I am back in town.

I travel for work and like to get some training on the road. I stopped here at Coach Maxwell's gym and it was excellent! Class was excellent, training partners were excellent, and I also got in some good rolls. One of, if not the best training experiences I've had on the road. If you live in the area, or are stopping by, I can't recommend this gym enough! P.S. If you have kids, this is the place to go! I've never seen kids that good!

Team Maxwell has one of the best Kids Jiu Jitsu programs in California. For adults, Professors Terry and Davin Maxwell teach very technical and effective Jiu Jitsu. There are Open Mats every Sunday open to all schools. The school has plenty of upper level belts to help students to grow and to have everyone sufficiently challenged (white to black belts). Strongly recommend for kids and adults.

I was visiting sacramento and spent a week training here. Even though I was only a temporary visitor, I was given plenty of instruction and guidence from both of the black belt instructors, during the morning and evening classes. I learned alot and enjoyed my time spent at Sacramento Jiu Jitsu.

It's my humble opinion that what's going on over there is beyond jiu-jitsu. Looking at their tournament track record, previous posts have already stated the obvious that the attention students receive is second to none. But what nobody has yet to mention, and I will, is that this academy is doing more for the community than creating champions. While the staff probably doesn't want it put out there, I'll just leave it as this: Given that the place is owned and operated by area natives there's something extra, an aura of community, going on there. As such, the team, as I've witnessed, has on numerous occasions gone above and beyond the call of duty in order to assist the local youth. This might be one of the few remaining rights of passage our Sacramento youth can experience and the team takes it, and community, very seriously.

Convenient location. Parking lot gets hectic on Mondays and Wednesdays so you gotta show up ten minutes before or after 6 PM. World class instruction. I like how the techniques are broken down with the action/reaction philosophy. Davin and Terry have helped me make my game more fluid.
