Highly recommend Royal Martial Arts as Mike is truly a great role model , mentor and instructor for my daughter . She’s been going there for 2 1/2 years and always look forward to new lessons from a great human being . Thanks again Mike your the Best !
I initially joined Royal Martial Arts to work on balance, strength, flexibility and overall weight loss. I've received a lot more!! Great lessons, great class members and a awesome instructor Mr. Mike!!
**Disclaimer: This may be long, but hopefully valuable for those seeking quality instruction and a great atmosphere"** Initially, I only signed my 8 year old son up for classes because I could see the impact COVID was having on him. Not being able to engage with other kids in person or run around with them outside on the playground was beginning to affect his spirit. He was becoming more introverted, gaining weight, and losing interest in activities he normally enjoyed. I knew immediate action was necessary, so I started searching and found Royal Martial Arts. First, I called and left a message. Then, I decided to hop in the car and do a drive-by. Personally, I like catching businesses off guard when I randomly pop up because they have no time to prepare, and I get to see what is going on when there is no awareness of "new people" coming to visit. When we pulled into the parking lot, Mr. Mike was just returning my call. I answered and told him we were actually outside. He invited us in and told us about his passion for martial arts, asked what I was looking for for my son, and provided more information about how his school operates. We were offered two complementary lessons before signing up and were invited to watch the class in session (BJJ). After watching the class, I looked at my son and could see his wheels turning; a spark was lit. We went to the counter and Mr. Mike gave us the rules and information sheet to fill out if we decided to return. THERE WAS NO PRESSURE and Mr. Mike seemed genuine. Once we left and got in the car, I looked at my son and he said, "Mommy, I want to come back here," with a big smile; he was hype. We came back for a complementary class and my son fell in love. As a coach, myself, I could see Mr. Mike was a great instructor. There was no mistaking the passion he has for martial arts as it is infused in his teaching. Great with the kids, Mr. Mike is patient with each student, encourages them while still pointing out improvement points, pays attention to details, is strict with form and technique (a big one for me), and teaches life lessons during and after class. After watching my son for a month, I decided it was time for me to sign up as well. I watched the adult class and knew I would love to learn from Mr. Mike too. As an athlete and competitor, running outside every morning and lifting weights in my home was becoming boring. Even though I was moving my body, I was not pushing myself the same way I do when I am working out around other people. It wasn't just the physical, but the mental challenge that I needed, a goal to pursue; and something athletic to commit to to keep my mind sharp and focused. I didn't need two free lessons to know this was where I wanted to be. The effort I put in during each class, the physical challenge of moving my body in ways I have never moved it before, and the mental challenge of learning something new after each earned belt, building on that knowledge, and feeling like I can be great at this if I keep going strong with an opened mind and heart is what keeps me coming back. When I walk in on a bad day, I leave with a renewed spirit. Six months later, we are still here going strong, getting better every class, inspired and motivated to practice our skills together to earn the next belt. I've witnessed my son make new friends, learn life lessons on and off the mat, grow in confidence, and work each day to live the Royal Code and Creed. As for me, this is exactly the mental and physical challenge I needed. We LOVE Royal Martial Arts. Commitment= Black Belt. Thanks a lot, Mr. Mike!
Loved it great class great teachers
Great place to train and great people to train with. The kids classes are phenomenal as well
Love this place. Take jits myself and with my daughters. Atmosphere is awesome and friendly. The instructors care about your kids and teach them discipline while still being human. Best place in Southern Maryland for martial arts.
Fantastic! Excellent instruction, facility and people. Highly recommend.
....As an avid Martial Art practitioner for over the past 40 or so odd years ...I've been blessed to have had the very distinct pleasure of rubbing elbows with many of the DMV's Martial Arts elite..And if there is one particular overlying characteristic that seemed to permeate throughout them all ..I'd have to say it was their humbleness in the midst of them possessing Great Skill...And this is exactly what you'll find at Royal Martial Arts. Great skill and a willingness to assist you in achieving your goals..... It was an honor to have had the opportunity to train with them...
I enrolled my 12 year old son in Martial Arts at Royal Martial Arts. The owner and instructor, Mike does an incredible job working with the kids. Not only does he teach them the Arts, but he always incorporates lessons of respect and character into his teaching. I highly recommend Royal Martial Arts.
Mr. Mike is the best! Friendly place to learn
Mr. Mike is great with the kids and passionate about teaching martial arts
What an amazing gym. I took my 12 year old to help with his wrestling and he has fallen in LOVE. The staff is amazing and you just arent a part of the gym you are a part of the ROYAL FAMILY. I would highly reccomend this gym to anyone adults and children alike. I would love to give this place 10 STARS
Excellent martial arts school for kids. My son loves it here. Master Mike has the love and respect of these children. They not only learn discipline & respect - they learn real life self defense skills too! This is not a place that only teaches acrobatic kicks & forms that look nice. The kids learn to grapple and go to the ground. That is real life useful stuff. My son uses it on me as practice and I can confirm it works!
Very welcoming environment. Separate kids and adult martial arts classes. Kids classes are disciplined but fun and and the adult classes are a great workout. We have been going 2 days a week since March and yet to have a duplicate curriculum. The instructor explains things well and is willing to give tips to help you perfect your techniques.
My 7 & 5 year old have been going for a year and love it. Mike teaches, besides martial arts, anti-bullying strategies, and self-discipline. I joined in with the adult beginners class which is great and I can join in with my boys on Saturday mornings, the only dojo I’ve found locally that allows this. My neighbors had their kids get taught by Mike in the past and had nothing but praise for his teaching so be aware Mike has been at this for years and a long history of success.
Mr. Mike is an amazing instructor! My son has taken classes here for over a year and he enjoys it very much. The training facility is top notch. I'd highly recommend RMA!
Mike is personally invested in each of his students, and he teaches much more than Martial Arts. My son is learning discipline, self-control, self-respect, respect for others, and personal responsibility. The classes are fun and very organized, and Mike makes sure to provide individual attention within the group setting.
Outstanding instructors, perfect balance of physical exercise and defensive instructions. If you are serious about getting in shape and learning the art of self defense, I highly recommend this martial arts school.
My son has been going here for about 3 years now and is in green belt, he gets a good workout and great martial arts training, Mr. Mike is a great instructor and very patient with the kids, he's strict but fair, and the kids also have fun, great emphasis on safety and self defense.
Our daughter is in 1st grade and attends lessons at Royal Martial Arts. She loves the classes. We've been very happy with the level of physical activity that is involved in the class sessions. Our daughter also learns structure, discipline and citizenship. We've been very happy and would recommend Royal Martial Arts.
