The culture of this school is 100% respectful and professional. If you’re looking for a school that will protect and develop its students while providing quality instruction, look no further
This is honestly the best place for BJJ and has helped me out a ton! I’ve gone from knowing absolutely nothing, to having a foundation in BJJ. The professors are so helpful and caring. The students are very competitive, eager to learn, and will help you get better at your game as well. After training for 1 year, I don’t plan on stopping. Highly recommend this place for beginners and not only will you learn from this place, but you will be part of the family as well.
Amazing place to train! Very welcoming atmosphere and great instruction. Highly recommend!!
A big thank you to the awesome folks at Renzo Gracie Newark Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for letting me visit this week. Professor Matheus Batista is the real deal!
Went with my roommate and they welcomed me with open arms. Excellent and patient teachers that just want to help you improve. DEFINITELY RECOMMEND!!!
I have been training here for a year and have fallen in love with jiu-jitsu. The instructors are very highly skilled and create an amazing environment for anyone to learn.
I have been at Renzo Gracie Newark since I was a teen and now that I am an adult my child will be the next generation to continue on forth. There’s a reason for that and it’s cause this gym is more than a gym, I found family in this place. Best instruction, best people to be around. Best atmosphere than any gym out there by far.
Renzo Gracie Newark changed my life. I’ve been training for 9 years now and I am so grateful for the first day I tried a class. I recommend everyone trying a class here and falling in love like I did .
This place is the real deal. Renzo Gracie Newark is a supportive and engaging environment with powerful and respectful people who want nothing more than to see you grow. Make no mistake, however. These people are the real deal. They will push you to your absolute limits, they will show you where you went wrong in a roll and when you show up, you do things the Renzo Gracie Newark way. Real Jiu Jitsu is the hardest thing I’ve ever done, and this place breathes real Jiu Jitsu. I’ve been to multiple gyms for Jiu Jitsu in New Jersey, no gym comes CLOSE to Renzo Gracie in terms of pure quality. Renzo Gracie Newark pushes you. Renzo Gracie Newark shows you true Jiu Jitsu. Renzo Gracie Newark wins tournaments Renzo Gracie Newark lifts you up. If you want to learn how to actually fight effectively, or if you’re trying to do MMA? You won’t find a better spot in New Jersey.
I learn a lot there and they are very helpful if you can’t figure out what to do and has a very great teacher to help us
Professor Matheus is welcoming and knowledgeable and has made an environment that is both competitive and supportive. The instruction was great and rolling partners of every level were respectful and talented. If you are looking for a place to train, Renzo in Newark is an incredible spot.
Yes they have good service and good dojo I like
Classic old school BJJ school. Instructors and upper belts are very welcoming.
This place isn't just a school .. its a family!!
Training at Renzo Gracie Newark is one of the greatest experiences in my life. At RGN you’re not only learning Brazilian Jiu Jitsu but also life lessons. Seeing the struggles of my Jiu Jitsu family and how they overcome these challenges taught me a lot about perseverance. Everyday is a new challenge, a new goal. Not only my Jiu Jitsu has improved tremendously in the past year but also my attitude towards I face on a regular basis. My mindset has changed. I couldn’t recommend enough tranining Jiu Jitsu at Renzo Gracie Newark under Marco Teixeira. His life itself is an example of perseverance and endurance. I’m proud to be part of this family.
Drove 40 minutes one day 8 years to check it out and I haven’t left. Learning under Professor Marco Teixeira has help me develop as a jiu jitsu player and as a person. Would recommend to anyone looking to join a family and learn some self defense.
Best place to train jiujitsu period
Trained at Renzo Gracie NEWARK for 8 years. There is no other school like this around that offers the level of instruction(professor Marco) and competition from the team. It will challenge you like no academy can... a true old school Brazilian Jiu Jitsu academy. Like the city it’s in.. gritty, tough, resilient, and loyal to its own!
I've been a student here under Professor Marco for a little over 8 years. This academy and all the people I've met here are very near and dear to my heart, I consider them an extended part of my family. If you find yourself in the Newark Ironbound area please come by and say hi and take advantage of our 3 day free trial period. Guaranteed you won't be disappointed! Oss!
I’ve trained here and only here for approximately the last 9 years. There’s no other place to go once you’re here. What this place has taught me goes beyond jiu jitsu. Thanks to people like Professor Marco Teixeira who make you strive to be better not only on the mats but in life. The people here are more than training partners, they are a family. I’ve witnessed first hand how we are able to help our own brothers and sisters during rough times. You will not find that anywhere else. I’m truly grateful for all the time I’ve spent here and can only hope that I can contribute a fraction of what this place has given to me.
I dropped in for a lesson while on a layover. The welcome was genuine and the level of skill throughout the dojo was impressive. If I lived in Newark, I would roll here.
Never officially trained with any of these guys... yet, but I know a handful, and they are stand up guys through and through, any thing that's affiliated with Romulo Bittencourt or Renzo Gracie BJJ is top notch and should be respected as such. Want the best, you will get the best.
Great people! Had a blast training! I recommend this team to anyone in the area committed to training!
Everyone here is very friendly, and you get a free class to start. I didn't know what to expect going in, as I took karate when I was younger and I saw the differences between real training and belt factories. This is real training, hard training, and it will make you feel like you are really accomplishing something. A lot of places make you buy stuff to get started, they asked only that I get a patch that said Team Bittencourt, so I could represent them at tournaments some day. There is a kids class that I sometimes arrive early enough to see, and the guys who run it are really something when it comes to dealing with discipline and motivation. I would recommend training here at any age and regardless of gender. Members routinely go to tournaments, and the instructors always recommend that you try, so that you can get a sense for genuine accomplishment. While I've not yet competed, I always congratulate everyone who goes, as they almost always come back with gold or silver. No one from another school has ever come in and spoke poorly of the training to me. In fact, I've heard nothing but compliments! I can offer nothing but compliments in turn. This is simply a great place to learn jiu-jitsu (or judo on Monday nights). Unlimited monthly classes make the money well worth it, and you won't find a better way to train your body (even if you have no interest in jiu-jitsu).
Instructor Romulo Bittencourt is a 4 stripe Renzo Gracie Black belt, with many judo and BJJ titles under his belt. He is also a former US Marine and judge for MMA fights in NJ. His lineage is directly from Renzo Gracie as he is Renzo's cousin. I would recommend this school to anyone looking for really good tough training.
