I must admit I was hesitant into coming in for a risk free trial today 02/18/25, not only because I didn't know what to expect of a class in general, a quick tour of the gym, premises and what training is about. I was approached by another student member while I was warming up and that gesture made me feel welcomed he was being patient and overall was teaching me some techniques, Thank you Ben for having that gesture, when coach Cortes showed up he made us warm up and must be honest I was not expecting that warm up but it got me to think positive of myself, risk free trial was great I had to sign up for 6 months to gain that experience and don't have that thought on my head of " what could I have accomplished if I had stayed " also a big THANK YOU to the owner for reaching out via text message when all I was doing was some research on Muay Thai classes not being fully committed on training, once again Thank you.
i love this place. great teachers and training partners! lots of parking! lots of bathrooms and showers! loooooloooov3 it!
I been coming here for 6 months and I am in the best shape I’ve been in an almost a decade. The coaches are great and everyone in the class is very nice. I can’t recommend this place enough!
Great environment and amazing coaches. My son is really enjoying his Muay Thai and BJJ classes
RGLA has shaped me physically and mentally into a better human. Shoutout to Coach Raf, Coach Jess, Coach Al & Coach Cortes. A welcoming environment with humble people & insightful curriculums.
Fantastic facility, great location, and the people (instructors and students) make this an absolute top-rate place to learn and train hard! If you want longevity in the martial arts, you need a place that will challenge you but have a friendly, healthy atmosphere that you want to keep returning to! This school provides all that!!!
Everything you’re looking for 🤌🏾
Came with a girlfriend for the first time and it was way more approachable than I expected. Good vibe in the studio!
Amazing! Just had my first class and felt so welcomed. Super great space.
Gym is unlike any other!!! Family is definitely what resonates here. Coach Cortes and Albert are the best and they understand the teaching essentials and how to properly guide you through class. Purchased a year membership and don’t regret!!!
Friendliest front desk. Def check this gym out 🙌🏽
Renzo Gracie Los Angeles is definitely the gym to attend. Tons of knowledgeable upper belts that can steer you in the right direction. Even the lower belts are also pretty challenging. Not only do they have jiu jitsu, but they even have judo, and Muay Thai. Even Yoga and hiiit training. Tons of classes for you to fit into your schedule no matter how busy. And also lots of randori (free rolling).
High level bjj, great coaches and training partners
Been training here for 2 months and can’t imagine ever training anywhere else. Solid and innovative coaches, solid focus on community, ample fundamentals classes if you’re new to Martial Arts. Pound for pound a great place to not only learn the basics but excel well beyond that.
The best gym I’ve trained at. Full of amazing coaches.
Renzo Gracie is the best! Professor Albert for Fundamentals teaches very clearly and practically for open mats. He helps build the mental models to be intentional and successful. Professor Benji’s judo class is very detail oriented to take the game from stand up to the ground seamlessly.
Great community, full of extremely talented and friendly people!
I truly learned so much about martial arts and even about myself here. The people here are all great, the vibes are super welcoming, and I have improved so much in my skill sets too. 128% recommend this place to anyone who wants an awesome place to train!!
Friendly gym, Great staff, great deal- have never felt more welcome as a beginner and can’t recommend it more for someone trying to pick up a new skill
great environment and great teachers and students. would recommend to anyone.
Best gym in LA there stand up coaches are the best in the west friendly and always helpful and easy to speak to.
RGLA is the gym to train at in LA! High level Bjj, Muay Thai, and other fitness classes! See you on the mats!
Great place to train in LA. Large selection of classes so if you’re a working professional or parent it’s flexible. Welcoming atmosphere and nice training partners!
Great MT program! Coach cortes and coach al are the best!
Renzo Gracie Los Angeles has been a wonderful experience all around. I’ve been training Muay Thai for almost a decade and this gym has become my home gym. They have put in a lot of effort to develop the community as a whole and it makes for a welcoming experience. The coaches have a lot of experience to help the beginners and more experienced fighters and amateurs alike. I definitely recommend coming here if you’re interested in exploring Muay Thai and jiu jitsu can contribute to your life. And make sure you say hey to coach Cortes. He’s the handsomest!
Great gym, atmosphere, everything is a fun time. Muay Thai and BJJ coaches are all I have experience with, and don't disappoint 🙏
Fantastic instruction! My Muay Thai skills have been sharpened after just a couple months of training.
I have been training at Renzo Gracie for over 5 years now, and it has truly transformed my life. The instructors are incredibly knowledgeable and supportive, always pushing me to achieve my best. What sets this gym apart is the sense of community—it feels like a family here. Whether you're a beginner or advanced, everyone is welcoming and willing to help you improve. I highly recommend Renzo Gracie to anyone looking to learn martial arts in a positive and empowering environment.
Renzo Gracie has been life changing for me, as someone who came in scared, having never tried any sort of training other than lifting weights, I have felt nothing but welcomed and empowered. All the coaches are amazing and the community is solid, I would recommend anyone to come here!
If you’re looking for a friendly, hard working, martial arts family, this is it.
Perfect gym for beginners, intermediate, or advanced. Awesome energy from all the fellow members and positive vibes from the second you walk in through the door. Coaches do a beautiful job breaking down techniques and taking the time to carefully explain and help you learn. 10/10 martial arts gym.
Greatest front desk ever Erick is one of the reasons why I keep coming back. If you have any questions about the programs RGLA has to offer Erick is the person to look for.
High level instructors and great training partners . 10/10
Jonathan and Erick are great coaches But so are the rest of the coaches. Thank everyone and my training partners.
Amazing gym. Extremely welcoming environment. Very organized training schedule with planned out lessons. Have been coming here for years and whenever I’m in Los Angeles this will be my gym.
Absolutely the best gym to go and learn self defense along with intense workouts. Coaches are super patient and knowledgeable and help you with your own goals whether is fitness or competing!
Amazing place, absolutely recommend! Dope people!
People are really nice and welcoming. Best place to start training if it’s your first time. Coaches are great and very helpful.
I’ve been a member for many years, and it’s honestly the best martial arts gym I have ever been to. The instructors are all incredible, and everyone is very respectful. I’ve learned so much there, and made good friends.
Hard work pays off. Love the folks at RGLA
Great environment for all ages, this is like my second home!
amazing place to train
Renzo Gracie LA is just an awesome gym with such a friendly vibe. As an Orthodox Jew, I'm grateful for the understanding when it comes to my practice of shomer negiah, meaning I don't roll BJJ with women. All the professors and coaches, especially Jaime and Benji, really make the gym stand out. I'd totally suggest this place if you're looking for a place to learn, with a mix of intense training and a bunch of really nice people.
Stop, drop, and roll your way into the best Martial Arts gym in Los Angeles. Period.
Professional couches, individual work with all the students, nice and friendly wnvironment.
The people are very welcoming and heartwarming. They teach many sports really well. Definitely recommend.
Great gym, members, and professors 👍
Renzo Gracie LA, is incredible. I have gone to other gyms, but nothing compares to Renzos! Everyone is so welcoming and they don’t make you feel uncomfortable. I love training here. Professor Jaime is an incredible teacher. He’s detailed and patient and always very helpful. You can see that he really truly wants us to learn and be the best we could be. He’s bold in his teaching But that’s what we need to truly learn. I’m very grateful That I found this place. Oss
One of the best gyms in the Universe. The coaches are knowledgeable. The coaches are military trained. They will get you physically and mentally strong. Once you get used to their sense of humor this place is better than Dysneyland, the only difference is that you can punch, kick, and choke your fellow students and learn self defense and lose weight all at once in this beautiful place. Everyone is welcome and I feel safe. If i wasn't for the coaches at RGLA I would be in jail. Thank you for saving my life. They are only allow 5 stars but of it was up to me, I'd give it a million stars!!!!
Amazing trainers and people great classes and good vibes all around
my happy place. i've grown so much in both muay thai and bjj here.
I absolutely adore this place! I discovered it during the pandemic when clubs were closed and other venues had limited capacity. Friday nights here became my cherished escape, and I fell in love with it! Despite the challenging times, this place transformed the worst of times into the best of times for me. It not only preserved my sanity but also gave me a new lease on life. The staff members are not only friendly but also highly knowledgeable. In my heart what sets this place apart is its LGBTQ friendliness. It became evident when I participated in the AIDSLife Cycle and received support from fellow students and coaches, helping me raise funds. It's so much more than just a regular gym. <3 LFG! LFG! LFG! <3
Great instruction
My partner and I travelled to America from Australia to compete at IBJJF Worlds and decided to drop into Renzo Gracie Los Angeles LA, during the week leading up to the competition. The gym facility was amazing and people at the gym were super friendly and helpful. I'm also a fairly small female purple belt and rolled with a number of bigger guys who all looked after me during the rolls. Overall this was our favourite gym we visited during our holiday and would highly recommend to anyone travelling through.
Everybody was friendly and gave off good vibes . No fake tough guys . Outdoor training facilities make this place a perfect place to train .
Great place to train! I drop in and train here often since its close to home. They are always very friendly and welcoming. Also some great jiu jitsu practicioners and martial artists to train with!
I've been coming here for 4 months and this gym is the perfect place to train for absolutely anyone. They offer dedicated classes for beginners, women, competitors, gi, nogi, muay thai and a lot more. I tried a bunch of other high level gyms in the area but the casual atmosphere and excellent instructors made me choose this one over all of them. I've made a lot of progress since joining and can highly recommend going here.
Absolutely enjoyed training with the team here once visiting LA.
This place is great!! My son is 5 years old and he’s been coming here for a few months. He loves it! Price is great for what they offer. Coaches are really good with the kids.
Would recommend this gym to anybody in the area. Great environment!!!
I love this place so much! Been training here for about 2 years, & I could honestly say it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Amazing high level instructors, & a family friendly environment that is welcoming for anybody who’d like to give it a try. 100% recommended!
I really love this place! Incredible instruction and quality human beings. Highly recommend
I was traveling today and was able to join their 12:00p Gi class. Coach Riley was our instructor for the Friday class. He and the rest of the students were very friendly and welcoming. Everyone followed proper gym protocol and respect. Lucky for me, everyone obliged my pace and never drug me out to deep waters 😂. Super sharp fundamentals and I’m more than confident I could’ve been taken to deep waters if I was looking for that! Great school! Go visit them
This jujitsu gym is one of the best Gyms here in the LA area. Not only is the gym clean & impeccable 3 huge mats to train on, it also has very friendly people and great instruction a definite must go to if you practice jujitsu.
So far it's been great and very welcoming, especially from the coaches! I have learned a lot over the last couple of weeks and look forward to learning so much more. The only thing I would add is that I wish there was more women classes because it is a lot of male students and a little intimidating 😅 but still great 👍🏼
Great facility, training partners are friendly and make you feel welcomed. Chill vibes and you're treated like family.
Wow what a place! There is an incredible sense of community, huge variety of classes, and an immaculate facility. The quality of the instructors is paramount. They also bring in special seminars and instructors all of the time. Everyone there from novice level, to a lifetime of training has been welcoming, friendly and warm. I would hands down recommend RGLA to anyone looking to train or just try something new. I feel blessed to get to come here as much as I do. I've been training in various styles for over a decade and you won't find places like this very easily.
If you want a kick a** workout this is a place to go. These guys don't mess around . This place is only for the serious Trainee.
Perfect..
Amazing gym. Some of the best coaches I have ever worked with. Amazing people in class as well. Over all an amazing gym.
Excellent facilities and staff that help people learn and train.
One of the mottos at Renzo Gracie Los Angeles is that its not a gym, it's a family. They truly live by that motto. My son is on Autism Spectum and that can be a challenge for not just him but also instructors. Steve Calderon was fully invested in making sure that my son could succeed at Renzo Gracie. he went out of his way to make not just my son but my family feel welcomed and comfortable at the gym. You don't always get that kind of support with a child on the spectrum and it was so wonderful to watch his team put in the efforts to help him succeed. If you're thinking about putting your children in Jiu Jitsu and I highly recommend it be at Renzo Gracie Los Angeles.
Super friendly atmosphere. Great for advanced and beginners to train.
I came here with my fiance who trains at this gym for my first jiu jitsu class and had an amazing time!
Excelente awesome with children and great hair cutters
I have been training bjj at RGLA since November 2019. As a beginner to martial arts, I have been very impressed with the facilities, instruction and community. During these stressful covid times, having a way to release tension physically has been a game changer. The team at RGLA even MOVED LOCATIONS so we are able to safely train outside. I could go on and on with adoration, but why don’t you come see for yourself? Take a free intro class and who knows; maybe you can change your life too.
I reached out to 5 Star while in town for work. The staff responded right away and welcomed my drop-in. I spent an evening in classes with two different instructors plus some open mat. I not only learned great techniques, but experienced a warm welcome. Instruction was clear, concise and effective. It was a great experience and I look forward to visiting again on future trips.
I been with 5 star martial arts , for about 6 months . My kids love the clases from mu -tai to kick boxing. Love the staff really friendly!!!
Fantastic place to learn and train BJJ. I dropped in on a visit to LA from Atlanta this week, and was greeted with peak hospitality. Coach Luis was passionate, knowledgable, detailed and fun. There was a healthy variety of belt levels training that day, and all were extremely courteous and well mannered. Showers and lockers included at the facility. Gym is slightly hard to find as the lobby doesn't have marking on where it is, but it's a short walk from lobby. If I'm in LA again, I'll be back!
This is one of the best BJJ schools in the world. The quality of the instruction here is absolutely tops. The atmosphere is welcoming and the people are wonderful and helpful. The facilities are clean and accessible. I train here whenever I am in LA and always learn something and have a great time. I can’t recommend it highly enough.
Good Teaching and lots of Positional Sparring and Regular sparring some seriously talented folks here. Leave your pride at the door if you don’t it will be left on the mat lol
Clean academy, friendly students, and great technical instruction. Highly recommend.
I trained at 5 Star while vacationing in LA. Shawn Williams, the head professor, taught an excellent class and covered many techniques/concepts for passing. All the guys I trained with welcomed me like family and were very technical/challenging rolls. Definitely check this academy out if you're in town.
I can't stress enough how great a gym this is. The staff are helpful, welcoming and take great joy in teaching their skills. I started not too long ago and every time I walk in the door the staff make me feel like a long time member. The other students are also extremely gracious, friendly and welcoming. Try this place out!!
I've been training at 5 Star for two months and love it! I can't wait to go to class each day.The coaches and staff are incredibly friendly and approachable. The other students are welcoming and are quick with a smile and words of support. Glad I found this place. Can't recommend it enough.
I've been training at 5 star since 2014, I was nervous at first because I had never done any form of martial arts in my life but the staff was so welcoming and friendly I felt like I belong from the get go. They have a great variety of classes and times which really helps with my work schedule. 5 star is my home away from home.
Visited LA and had to go into another Renzo Gracie school. Professor Williams had given a great seminar at my academy a few months before, and so I knew that I needed to stop in and see. The staff was great, the professors were clear, concise and demanding. I learned some useful BJJ and enjoyed the rolls with my training partners. If you are in this area of LA, I recommend this academy.
When I first entered 5 Star Martial Arts to ask about classes for my 5-year old daughter I was welcomed by the amazing kid-friendly and professional staff. My daughter quickly embraced the place and wanted to start classes right away (combination of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) and Muay Thai Boxing). If you talk to any parent that takes their child to 5 Star Martial Arts, you will hear the same responses, "they are like second family" and "kids are benefiting from these classes". Parents commented about taking their children to other martial arts classes and by far this is the best place. The kids classes are structured and kids stay focused. Apparently, at other schools the kids play around and they don't really learn much. Soon afterwards, Mom and Dad began taking both Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Again you will be surprised how friendly the staff AND the students are in these adult programs. The coaches model this friendly and helpful behavior and the students follow suit. Even as a newbie, the more advanced students treat you with respect and help you along during training. Schedule is flexible and there are classes 7 days a week starting from 7am classes for training before work with a shower and locker room for use. The last class also starts either 8pm or 8:30pm during different days of the week.
Coach Mike is a class act. I brought my two young children ages 5 & 6, and he quite frankly won them over. Personable and kind, with a great sense of understanding of timid children, Coach Mike is a coach I sincerely recommend to any reluctant parent. I first visited two other martial arts centers before settling on this place. You'll notice the difference, too.
You will not find a better place to train at in Los Angeles than Five Star. All of the programs and instruction is top notch! Professor Shawn Williams is one of a kind when it comes to teaching BJJ. The detail he puts into his teaching really helps you understand what to do and why. Kru John is the head of the Muay Thai program and he brings a lot of experience and detail to his classes as well. The facility is super clean and you won't find a better group of people to train with. Whether your looking for classes for your child or yourself, Five Star has great programs for everyone. If you are in the L.A area and are looking for a place to train, do yourself a favor and go to Five Star!
If you're looking to train Martial Arts in Los Angeles, 5 Star Martial Arts is the place to be! They have top notch instruction and coaching, emphasizing in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Muay Thai Kickboxing, Kids Martial Arts and Mixed Martial Arts. Shawn Williams, a Renzo Gracie black belt, is the head BJJ instructor at 5 Star. Professor Shawn is known for his incomparable world class instruction, top notch technical skill as well as developing a very cutting edge position in BJJ known as The Williams Guard. 5 Star is the perfect place for everyone and has programs for beginners, to expert competitors, to everyone in between. Stop by and try it out for yourself!
Sean Williams is an amazing instructor who teaches an amazing class. He is an innovator and an educator as well as a close friend. This is the best place to learn BJJ in LA without a doubt. Truly a 5 Star place for Kick Boxing, Martial Arts, & BJJ Timbo loyal Student since 04/2013
No sparring for kids, only games. short classes, owner doesn’t return phone calls, no heating or AC, no connection to renzo gracie or any Gracie
I asked to cancel my subscription since I only wanted to go every other week. Well they charged me for a full moth with out letting me know. They also won’t answer the phone. I showed up in person and was told that it can’t get my money back, instead I can come in for free a few days for free….. The level is not there. If you are trying to get in shape this is it. If u want to learn how to fight then go somewhere else. Fake people. Waste of time. Jaime get a new job cuz.
I wanted to try out Muay Thai for a while, so I took a trial class over here. When I was checking in with the receptionist, one of the trainers asked me if I was Indian, and I'm like "Yes". He then proceeded to say how "this place was not for Indians", "you should leave", and how "his previous two Indian Muay Thai students left him". I understand this might have been said jokingly, but nonetheless, you shouldn't be saying something so racist to someone you don't know, and that too on their first day. Besides this incident, the remaining people I interacted with were nice, including the remaining trainers, and the students.
Very rude receptionist. Called for info and was mocked over the phone. Not great business practice guys.
Friendly instructors but they would not stop charging me even after submitting multiple doctor's letters, including a permenant one. Tried out maybe 2 times but got charged 159 x 3. Very unreasonable. Almost wanting to contact local Better Business Bureau. I will have to contact my credit card company again for dispute. Be careful before signing up
