My son has been a member at Renzo Gracie Brazilian JuJitsu for just over a month now. I’ve seen a change in him. I can’t say enough great things about Renzo Gracie Garwood. When I started, my 2nd child was not yet a year old. I was feeling down about the baby weight I had put on so I was looking to shed some pounds and find something my husband and I could join together. I was skeptical this would be the right fit for me because I had never done any type of martial arts in my life, I was in my mid thirties, I was terrified of meeting new people, and to top it off I am only 4’11”. However, after our last annual dr. checkup, my husband and I knew we needed a drastic change. We wanted to ensure we would be active and healthy enough to fully enjoy our children and threw all the excuses out the window. It was hard in the beginning, but Prof. Carlos Oliveira, his wife Zanete, Prof. Eddie Cruz, Prof. Tommy Caruso, Prof. Alex Rocha, Alcides, and everyone I have met here have been so encouraging and pushed me to keep coming back. It’s still hard today and can be a mental and emotional roller coaster, but it feels so rewarding at the same time. These people once strangers have grown to be a 2nd family to me. They supported me and helped me cope when my father was sick in the hospital. With each lesson and training session, everyone here is invested in my success and routing for me to do well. All that I have gained from this school far transcends just the moves I have learned. I have much more energy to play with my kids. I have this new language I get to share with my husband. It provides a stress relief after a long work day. And I have more confidence especially knowing I can defend myself with the growing arsenal of chokes and maybe an arm bar in my back pocket.

10/10! I am only in New Jersey 3 times a year and I finally found a gym that will let me roll whenever I’m around. As soon as I walked in the door I was welcomed and immediately felt like my current gym in Milwaukee. I have a chronic illness that makes rolling tricky sometimes and I was met with open arms and was able to roll at my own intensity level without hurting myself. I am definitely bringing my Gi next time so I can do more of their classes! Thank you so much for the Mat time :)

I came here after training at an affiliate gym for close to two years. Absolutely love it here. The head instructor is great and the fellow students help create a great training atmosphere. I'm a dad. Both my kids go to my daughter is 5 yo and my son is 7 yo the family friendly environment is wonderfull. My son was getting bullied and their confidence soared after just a month. I began training Brazilian Jiu Jitsu with Prof. Carlos "Bronco" Oliveira and his staff at Renzo Gracie Garwood in January, and the experience has been fantastic! The instructors are natural teachers - incredibly knowledgeable, adaptive to a student's knowledge and skill set, and know how to push and encourage students towards and beyond their level. In the few months I've been training, I've gotten stronger and more fit, built confidence, but more importantly have developed a sense of camaraderie and friendship with a great group of men and women who've come together to be active, teach one another, and build their strength and skills. The studio is recently expanded - spacious with ample room for warm-ups and training, as well as locker room areas for both men and women. The academy has classes for adults and kids, including "bully proof" classes for the younger ones. The staff's rapport with the kids is really impressive, focusing on building their confidence and skills. It's really great to see!

After doing 'other' martial arts for over 10 years, I quickly realized that what I was doing was not battle tested. With a lot of trepidation, I decided to take the plunge into BJJ a week after I turned 50! Had I gone to any other academy, I'm sure I would not have lasted more than a couple of months, especially with my propensity for injuries. But at Renzo Grace-Garwood(Formerly in Cranford), not only was I welcomed with open arms, I was made to feel like a family member since day 1. Both Professor Carlos and Eddie have been nothing but encouraging in their actions and words. In the initial months, there were times when I was very close to giving it up entirely due to the lack of progress I felt I was making. But in hindsight, I now realize that all that was part of the learning process in BJJ. It's now been over two years with the 'Bronco Team' and I hope to continue to train with this knowledgeable, proficient, patient and above all, generous team of instructors. Oss!

This is a great place whether you have been training for years or you are just starting out. I have finally a home. I have been to 2 different brazilian Jiu Jitsu academies in past and this by far has elevated my BJJ skills to the next level. 3 black belts on the mat and 3 black belts that would roll and train with you. Classes are almost like a private where attention to detail to technique are being explained and showed with patience and guidance. The kids class are second to none. This is the only sport that my daughters grew a passion with and have been training for almost 2 years due to the professionalism and guidance of their teachers making the kids class a fun productive class for the kids.

Amazing place to train. The instructors are very helpful and want to see you succeed. When I started I did not know anything, but now I feel like I have progressed so much and am very excited to go further and compete, thanks to them! No regrets.

This is a great facility, with top-level, legitimate black belt instructors who are really dedicate to jiu jitsu and to their students. Carlos and Eddie are amazing teachers and welcome all of their students into their family with open arms. I feel lucky to have been able to train here. OSS!

Super clean, super fun. Its more then a place to go train an amazing martial art but everyone is treated like family. Professors are by far outstanding at what they do!!! Mixed ranks in class pushes your mind and body to learn quickly and affectivly. Couldn't ask for anything better! Doors open for anyone who wants to be part of our family.

My neurodivergent son came in for his first trial class but was quickly overwhelmed with so many new things, new people and loud sounds. Immediately was unable to continue forward so we left the trial class early. While the staff did try, I can not in good faith recommend this place for kids with Autism, ADHD or any neurodivergence/learning disability. Just beware there isn’t a ton of 1:1 work for new kids (there was three of them doing a trial class) as they are just thrown in with the more experienced kids.

I was going to try the place looks good on paper I called to ask for trial class she asked me if I done Bjj before I said yes and she replied there is 30 dollars charge that’s a very bad way to do business I was looking forward to train there but all ready looking like cash grab place them I ask her how much is monthly and she said she’s not allowed to talk about money over the phone they just loose a potential client

in the last week BEFOREWARNED They will play a game with charging your Credit and Debit card. I signed up my son for classes as the came recommended by my chiro. On signing their so called contract the did tell me if we where to cancel we needed to notify them before the 18th of the month. Well on 7-11-17 they where told my son would not be returning after the billing cycle. I made sure he even went so far as to explain WHY he would not be returning. Low and behold I was charged $149 the next month. I tried to reach out to them but no response. My wife reached out to them later in the morning of the error. Well the stories started to change instantly. 1st We where never told. 2nd. The instructor did tell us> 3rd We need to have a person over the age of 18 tell us. 4th. We need a certified letter explaining why you are cancelling. So here I go writing a review to a business that certainly does not know how to conduct business. I have filed a dispute with the bank. I will see how that works. But when you use a debit card it is a hit or miss. If needed we go in front of a Judge in Union county Superior Court next for triple damages. BE WARNED !
